MacBook Pro :: Disc Drive Makes Scratching Noise

I just bought a new Macbook Pro 13 inch 2.4ghz model, all is good but I do have a question, when I put a disc in the drive it reads it fine, but lets say if I move my macbook a little on my lap I can hear the disc in the drive make a scratching noise, but there's no scratches on the disc, is this normal? Also after I eject the disc using the eject button the disc still shows up on my desktop. I have to move the disc to the trash can to get it off my desktop. My IMac doesn't do this,is this something Macbooks do?

MacBook Pro :: Won't Start From Install Disc - Makes A Noise & Ejects?
I wanted to use Onyx to check the status of my new macbook pro and it told me that the startup volume needed to be repaired. I tried first of all a safeboot as I understood that this would do a disc check but I wasnt told anything from that.

So I then inserted the disc OS X install dvd (10.6) and restarted the MB. After the chimes, i pressed the 'c' button. I have tried two times, once just pressing the button, once pressing & holding (no-where does it say which to do). I have found on searching alo that I may need to press the 'option' key but I have no idea where this is!

Anyway, the disc makes a repetative noise and then ejects, and then the MB starts up.. but not from the disc.

What am I doing wrong please??!

MacBook Pro :: Super Drive Unable To Read Discs / Makes Clicking Noise
I've been using this MBP since 2007, and, it's starting to fail me. I was using an external hdd on it since the internal one crashed, and, then the external one crashed. I just purchased a 250gig hdd which fits perfectly in my Macbook, but, now I have another issue that's been pressing me for some time that didn't bother me at all until now when I need to install Snow Leopard;

My Super Drive isn't reading discs at all, and, it's making this scary crackling noise. I uploaded a video on youtube of me putting 2 discs in it, 1 with content (World of Warcraft: The Frozen Throne) and the other without content (Just a blank CD).

Before I link the video, I'd like to note that I am apparently amazed by the laser seeing as how I point to it and make a note of it ._. URL

MacBook Pro :: Scratching Noise Coming From MBP / Stop It?
There is a scratching sound coming from the center of my MBP. It is not coming from the speakers.

If this is a known problem, I would very much appreciate some info before I book an appointment to see a "genius" (the nearest Apple store is over an hour away).

If necessary, I can record the sound on my iPhone and post a link here.

What causes this? Where does this noise come from? Is my MBP defective?

MacBook Pro :: Hinge Makes Cracking Noise / Loud Popping Noise When Adjust Screen Position
On my 13" MacBook Pro, the hinge makes a cracking noise on the right side of the computer (near the power button) when the screen is positioned all the way back. The entire hinge also makes a loud popping noise when I adjust the screen position. The screen seems very tight, and it takes a little bit of effort to move the screen, and when the screen is moved it makes the loud popping noise.

This is probably going to make some of you guys cringe, but sometimes putting pressure down on the top of the case close to where the black hinge meets to unibody enclosure seems to stop the popping noises. Putting downwards pressure on the hinge, or flipping the computer over and putting pressure on it that way, also seems to alter how much popping noise there is.

If I mess around a bit with applying pressure on different parts of the computer around the hinge, I can usually eliminate the noise. But, the cracking noise when I put the screen all the way back is still there.Any ideas what to do? It's not interfering with the operation of the computer, it's just incredibly annoying and this is only a four month old machine which shouldn't be creaking and cracking already.

MacBook Aluminum :: Hard Drive Makes Faint Noise
I have a 2 week old 13" Macbook. Just started to hear a faint noise, which I presume is the hard drive. I do not have anything in the optical drive. Noise emits from lower right from the keyboard. About every 45 seconds, it sounds like the disk(s) shuffle, and each time it makes the noise twice. Again, very faint, but still noticeable. Any thing I can do to check health of hard drive?

Just a couple weeks ago when I open and close my MacBook Aluminum 13 inch lid, it makes a creaking sound. It seems like the screen sticks and makes that noise. It makes more of a noise when I move the screen after is has been on for a little while, but it still makes a noise when I am just opening it to turn it on. MacBook :: Dropped Computer - Removed Battery - Optical Drive Makes Noise
So today I managed to drop my MacBook a short distance to the ground. I can't believe I did this. The computer was asleep at the time and, as far as I can tell, the internal HDD is perfectly fine. After I dropped the computer it wouldn't at first wake up from sleep. After removing the battery and replacing it, it booted back from the state saved to the HDD. My problem is that my optical drive makes noises now. I never use it, but whenever the machine tries to access it (waking from sleep, launching Disk Utility, etc) it makes noises as if the eject mechanism is running constantly or something else like that. The case also slightly bulges where the drive is. Now, if it doesn't work ever again I will only be slightly sad. I haven't tried to put a disc in it yet, but because of a previous spill by a previous answer the fibers around the opening are so stiff that getting a disc out of the drive when it works is a pain. Any ideas of what might be wrong and how to possibly fix it? I haven't tried resetting the drive, I don't have the time tonight.

MacBook Pro :: Optical Drive Scratching Discs
I've noticed that recently my macbook pro drive has been severely scratching DVD's now and then (doesn't always happen but when it does it renders the DVD unusable). At first I wasn't sure if it was the drive or not but now I am sure it is. The laptop hasn't been moved or dropped in anyway and its just started happening for no apparent reason - laptop isn't on a tilt either it hasn't been moved from the desk in weeks.

Is this an issue with the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868 drive? It's still in warranty and i'm going to take it into a authorised apple service provider tomorrow and see what they can do but I just wanted to check about this drive as I don't really want a replacement of the same drive if its just going to do it again. Also is there any chance apple could offer some form of compensation for the DVD that was just destroyed by it? It was a part of a boxset so kind of ruins the collection.

OS X :: External Hard Drive Makes Buzzing Noise/ Not Reconized By Mac?
I've got a serious issue that needs to be solved, one way or another. I have a Seagate FreeAgent 1.5 TB External Hard Drive with two partitions on it: one for Time Machine, and one for extra storage. Yesterday, I tried to plug the drive in and nothing happened. It didn't light up; it wasn't recognized by my Mac. Just a strange buzzing noise that occurs every 2-3 seconds. So, I left it alone overnight. Woke up this morning, plugged it in, and same results.

I'm extremely upset and concerned over this. Losing this data is not an option, as there are more than just backups on this. It should be noted that the day before this started, it took a short tumble off my desk, and when trying to eject it yesterday, the drives would not eject so I had to pull it out. Please, if you know of any way to get it working again or to salvage the data on this thing, please help. I've attached an audio clip of what the drive sounds like when plugged in.

MacBook Pro :: Makes Weird Noise When Turned OFF?
I just noticed, that my MBP (mid 09) is making a very high pitched noise when it is turned off and the MagSafe connector is NOT plugged in.

I can only hear the noise when I put the computer close to my ear. The noise definitely comes from the MagSafe area.

It goes away when I click the battery indicator button on the side but returns shortly after the batteryindicator lights go out again.

Also, there is a ticking/clicking noise that I can hear when my Macbook is fully charged, turned off and the MagSafe is plugged in.

The noise is only there when the battery is at 100% (MagSafe light is green) the MagSafe light also seems to flicker very slightly but that's hardly visible (but definitly there)

both noises go away when the computer is turned on or in sleep.

MacBook Pro :: When Turn On The HD Makes A Loud Clicking Noise
When i turn my macbook pro on a loud clicking sound seems to be coming from the hard drive, it lasts for about 1-1.5 seconds. The sounds also then occurs when i press the ALT key on the grey screen to choose between my MAC or BOOTCAMP HD's, so am pretty confident that this is where the sound is comming from.

Is this a major problem? Should i take the computer in to be fixed?

MacBook Pro :: Hinge Makes Clicking Noise When Lid Is Opened?
My problem with my brand-new (three day old) MacBook is not a "creaky" hinge (a problem already posted at [URL]); rather, when the computer has time to warm up, the hinge makes a one-time "CLICK" upon opening the lid (the sound comes from the right corner). This is really annoying me, and I'm worried that the repeated click (which signals something rubbing against something else) will wear down the joints and ruin my computer prematurely.

[Side note: The click is especially loud and offensive when the MacBook is warmed up after half an hour or so; when it's cold and shut down, the click is much quieter. This makes me think that the plastic parts are swelling and expanding a little when the computer is power on. I'm not too comfortable with the idea of the joints wearing down due to normal use. I want this computer to last me 3 years at least!]

MacBook Pro :: Hinge Cracky - Makes Loud Clicking Noise
My 17" Macbook Pro was purchased on Feb 24th 2009 via telesales, so it's less than 6 months old. The hinge is very creaky and on the right hand side it makes a loud clicking noise when I open and close it, also the whole screen seems to creak, not just the hinge. The wall charger is in my opinion very loose, it was loose when I got it ( should have changed it then ), but I haven't really moved it that much ( maybe 10 times in the space of 5 months and this is also becoming a concern. I contacted Apple today and they told me I have 1 year of telephone support and 3 years parts and labour as I order though Higher Education.

They told me that I can go to a Apple store or authorized repair centre to have it looked at, but all the stores are 2 hours away. I asked about mail-in repairs and he said that could be set up but they would prefer if I went to a store. The question is, should I send it in and hope they take care of my Mac i.e don't scratch or mark it etc. After reading some stories about repairs, I'm a little concerned about it, and don't like anyone to touch my Laptop. Obviously I would prefer a replacement as I have work to do and I don't want to be without my Mac.
