MacBook Pro :: CD Drive Not Reading Any Disk

I have a Macbook pro which was purchased early last year, and is currently running the latest Snow leopard. Anyway, every time I insert a disk, it basically cannot read anything. It tries to for a second (makes a spinning noise really weak) then pushes out. Is there any way I can fix this? Anything I can reset in order to get it working?

As far as I know it used to work a week ago, or an hour ago when I inserted my Pro Tools disk. But now, it just pushes out. I can't really do anything about it. Now I have restarted multiple times, then now, it just has a disk stuck in the mac, reading but not doing anything. Just completely stuck.

OS X :: CD Drive Not Reading And Ejecting Disk
I was trying to import a cd into my macbook pro this afternoon and it went in and clicked into place but then started making a huming sort of noise, but was you could hear it was not spinning, about 20 seconds later it ejected. I tried it multiple times and restarted my computer but nothing seemed to help. The disk drive isn't bent out of shape or anything and I've never had a problem with it until now.

MacBook Pro :: Optical Drive Not Reading Neither Ejecting CD
I got my MBP in April 2008 as it was my very first Mac. I've had two problems with my MBP since, one the logic board and two the optical drive. I was convinced by number of people over the years that Apple/Mac was the way to go i.e. better than PC. Now I'm not so convinced.
The logic board was replaced free of charge and works fine even though it wasn't covered, but the optical drive didn't always work, it was moody to say the least. Sometimes it would play some cd's (music) sometimes it would play dvd's and even dvd rips. When I wanted to partition my MBP using bootcamp and to insert windows xp pro cd it wouldn't read which was extremely disappointing, kept ejecting the disc. I've read many complaints about this, many users are very angry as Apple don't seem to come up with many solutions with regards to the internal/hardware problems the MacBook and MacBook Pro's have.

Its the same for the iPod classic problems with the drive problems and not sync all songs, it freezes. So Apple/Mac I ask you when are you going to settle all these problems? As I was a PC user for many years, and only the odd problem with windows more-so than hardware problems of PC's which was always easily replaced and possibly cheaper. Apple need to review these problems if they want to maintain a somewhat good name with extremely great designs, ideas and so on. I'll stick with Mac for the time being as I'd like to get an iMac but worried of the problems I may face as to avoid horrible probelms with windows errors, blue screens of death and virus after virus. I'd also like to know, is the an Optical Drive out there for MacBook Pro I can buy rather than go to Apple store and get it fixed which would cost a bomb!

MacBook Pro :: Optical Drive Not Reading All The Disc?
My friend is offering me his 2008 macbook pro for 650 should I do it here are the specs

Model Family: MacBook Pro
Display: 15"
Processor Type: 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo
Model Number: A1260
Color: Aluminum
Factory: China
Production Year:2008
Production Week:22 (May)
Production Number:774
200 gb hd
4gb of ram
also apple care til jun 11

OK so I bought the computer for 650 from my friend and soon after buying found a problem. The problem was the optical drive not reading all the disc that I put in the system. So I took the macbook pro to apple they installed a new super drive. I get home today and try to install snow leopard and have a issue. The way I went about was starting up holding the option button and waiting to boot from the disc for a fresh install. First time I tried I got a symbol that look like the restricted sign you see when you cant smoke in a area ect... So I restart and try again this time I get to the install screen click does the estimation ect.. 34 minutes than goes to 28 minutes pretty much has frozen there now, and after waiting all this time about 20 minutes I get the spinning beach ball. Also forgot to say that the super drive is now super dooper annoying loud and make odd sounds too with vibration. So I guess make another apple gen bar apt? And have them possible replace the super drive again?

MacBook Pro :: Internal Hard Drive - Reading Ok But Cannot Write
I have a late 2009 MacBook pro, running the latest version of Lion. Last week, I experienced a Kernel panic at start up, and was unable to launch the OS, even with the recovery boot. Starting in verbose told me that there was a sata issue. I opened the computer, replaced the internal hard drive with lion set upon it, and tried to start again, without any success. I bought a SATA-USB cable to plug my old hard drive. My computer is now running normally, but with the former internal hard drive plugged in USB.

Disk manager sees the new one and I can read data written upon it, but I can't write anything nor erase or partition it. So both the hard drives are OK (I tested them in a friend's MacBook pro and it worked), the computer seems OK too, because I'm running it presently, but any internal hard drive won't work. The cable that links the hard drive to the motherboard does not seem to be damaged, however, the status indicator light is not working since that time.

MacBook Pro :: Hard Drive Corruption In Disk Utility / Unable To Repair Disk
I'm having an odd error. Disk utilities is reporting my disk is corrupt. I just got the macbook 2010 model with the upgraded non ssd drive. It says its corrupt and I need to do a repair disk through the install disk and it says it cant due to a corruption. But if i run tech tool it says everything is fine. is this because Ilet my batter run out while it was in sleep mode?

I don't think anything is wrong with the computer as it doesnt slow down or freeze, just in disk utils.

Mac Pro :: DVD Drive Not Reading / Loading Disc
Just recently my Mac Pro has started to give me trouble reading DVDs. The DVDs are fine as they read perfectly on my MacBook, but on the Mac Pro, they just spin up a bit in there and never load. Every once in a while, a DVD will load just fine, but for the most part I can't get DVDs to play. I think I've noticed a pattern. CDs and single-layer DVDs load without a problem. It's the newer Dual-layer DVDs that just sit in there and fail to load. I remember hearing about a similar issue in Nintendo Wiis and that it was because the drive was probably dirty. Any tips on how to clean the drives and test that out?

OS X :: Not Reading The Leopard Install Disk?
My husband and I bought the family edition of Leopard last night, along with iLife08. I installed iLife while he installed Leopard. No problems on either Mac.

However, when I went to install Leopard, once I double clicked to start the install, it seems like my Mac won't "read" the disk. I get the spinning rainbow and there's lots of chugging sounds happening, but after almost an hour (yeah, I'm patient), it was pretty apparent that nothing was actually happening.

I'm really perplexed...it's not a disk problem, as it installed fine on my husband's Macbook...and it's not a drive issue as iLife installed just fine a few minutes before trying Leopard.

Intel Mac :: High Disk Activity - Reading And Writing
I have noticed a lot of disk activity reading and writing, it maxes out in bursts up to a couple of minutes at a time and overall seams to be reading and writing a lot of the time, with no processor activity at all. There is no obvious culprits in the activity monitor but terminal displayed large number of read and writes for mds, but spot light is not indexing (no dot in Mag glass) and this has been happening from months now.

Possibly longer noticed it when recieved replacement drive due to crook seagate, may have been doing this but could not hear it. Running last Snow Leopard on iMac 27 mid 2011 i7 custom with 8 gb of ram. also should note this unit has had load of issues Bad Ram, some software problems would not sleep (software) none of which have ever manifested on any of my other (older) macs. Also have noted that this drive activity does seem to coincide with using safari on occasion??

OS X :: CD/DVD Drive Not Reading Disks?
Bought a MacBook about a year and half ago and have had no issues until today. I have been able to burn numerous CD's and DVD's but for some reason today when I tried to burn a CD it keeps spitting the blank CD out. I doesn't seem to recognize any disk. When I put a disk in it makes a quiet noise like it's trying to read it but after a few seconds spits it out. No application seems to recognize any disk either.

OS X :: IMac CD / DVD Drive Not Reading Disks?
it kind of just happened suddenly but my new aluminum iMac can not read CD/DVDs nor show them as an icon on the desktop. I don't know if this matters but it stopped reading them shortly after I preformed a mount with toast titanium on a mac universal binary image. Also, if I put a disk in, it thinks for a bit, then spits it out. I think I may have shut down the computer without dismounting the image and I don't know if that may contribute to the problem.

IMac Intel :: Drive Not Reading CDs Or DVDs?
I have an Intel-based iMac (28") and one day my drive just stopped reading/recognizing disks I put in. I have tried the disks elsewhere and they work. I put in a disk and it thinks for a bit then spits it out. I don't think it is a hardware problem because it has not had any problems beforehand. I realized it a short time after I had mounted a .dmg file using toast and I believe that I had shut down without dismounting it (if that matters at all). It was working before... and no it doesn't.

OS X :: External Hard Drive Constantly Working / Reading
I recently bought an external hard drive (like 2 weeks ago)- I put two partitions on it, one set as a Time Machine backup (HFS+) and one as file storage (FAT32 to make compatible with Windows XP boot on my Macbook Pro). When I first got it, I remember being surprised by how quiet it was. I filled it up and now, whenever I plug the drive in, it makes a sound like it's constantly reading (reminds me of the sound old, old computers used to make when thinking a lot, i.e. with the blinking orange light).

As soon as I start 'using' it (for instance, turning Time Machine backup on, etc.) it suddenly starts running quiet again. I made sure to make it 'invisible' to Spotlight so it doesn't index the drive... what else could be accessing the drive and making it work so hard? The constant 'grinding' of the drive is really bothersome!

MacBook Pro :: Disk Burning Drive Not Found
One day I inserted a CD in my Mac, nothing popped up. So I went into my mac hardware list and clicked on "Disk Burning". I get the following message. "No disk burning device was found. If the device is external, make sure it's connected and turned on." I currently am using a mid-2007 Macbook Pro installed with OS X 10.6.8, It is an Intel Core Duo. I have run Disk Utility and it told me to insert the installation disk and run Disk Utility from there.

I have tried rebooting the computer while holding C and nothing happened. I think the computer can not see the CD Drive so therefore, it will not load the disk. Also, I have considered doing a complete wipe of the hard drive and reinstalling but I have programs (Adobe, Parallels, etc,) that I do not have the disks for. If I was forced to do a full re-install, how could I save these programs from being wiped out and then re-install them cleanly back?
