MacBook Pro :: Battery Allowed To Discharge Date And Time Settings Lost

My wife left her MBP opened and unplugged. The battery completely discharged. When she powered the computer with a power cord, the Date/Time were completely wrong. She also lost her network settings. To me, this sounds like the internal (bios) battery has a minimum voltage. Does anyone have some insight to this before I go struggle with the Genius Bar?

MacBook Air :: Ridiculous Amount Of Time To Discharge Battery For Calibration?
discharge the battery for calibration.!! This is a fantastic battery and usage combination. From first thing in morning through late night I still could not get it to discharge for automatic sleep!! I had no idea that the 13" MBA 4GB could last so so long on battery .... far longer than the claimed 7 hours.I had to work at it to make it discharge!! And then>... it took only around two hours to reach full charge again. I, of course, had let it stay unplugged over night to get the five hours without power after auto sleep. And, I had used the MBA for over a week before doing the calibration. (I always have found with apple laptops that the battery gained length of charge time when used for a bit after new.)

OS X :: Unable To Set Time And Date / Time Date Settings Wrong
So I shut down my computer earlier today for the first time in weeks. I restarted it and then left for a few hours for dinner.

I come home and I look at the last time MobileMe Sync and Time Machine did their things. They say they did them at 7:45. I look at the clock on my cable box and on my iPhone, both say 6:45.

Weird that the MacBook's time is wrong. I go into Time Date settings. I see that when the MacBook does the "Auto locate where you are so that we can set the appropriate time zone, etc. the MacBook things I'm in Rexford, Idaho.

I haven't been to Idaho in about 25 years, and my MacBook has been sitting in Southern Kalifornia for the last one year since I bought it.I've tried to have the MacBook auto-locate again, and it keeps finding me us in Rexford, idaho.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Keep Settings / Date And Time Resetting?
I have had my new MBP for about 2.5 weeks. On two different occasions, when I turn my computer on from being completely off the pop up appears saying my date and time are set improperly. The computer sets its self/ forget the date and time and goes back to 1/30/2000 at 6 am or so, when obviously its not Jan of 2000 and I'm not turning my computer on at 6 a.m. Anyway to make sure this doesn't happen? Has anyone else had this experience? I never once had this problem with my whitebook the 4 years I had it.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Cycles And Discharge When Plugged In
1) My battery is draining slightly even when I have it plugged in. Over 3 days using it plugged in and shutting down in between, my charge goes from 99% down to 95 and triggers a recharge. Is this normal?

2) My battery seems to add cycles every time I charge it - even if I've only used it on battery for an hour of plain browsing. Aren't cycles meant to reflect accumulated discharge rather than number of charging events?

Battery has been calibrated twice since I received it 2 weeks ago.

MacBook Pro :: Options To Quickly Discharge The Battery
I'm trying to calibrate the battery of my new MBP. I need to get the battery to fully discharge and sleep for five hours or more. What are some things I can do to get my battery to discharge more quickly? Do I need to tell the MBP to not go to sleep after 10 mins of non-use, or the battery might last through the night? Or is it just the display that sleeps? I'd like to be able to use my MBP in the morning, but I'd like to make sure I get at least the recommended 5 hours of dead battery.

I put it to sleep at 3:30 yesterday with 100% charge and opened it at 8:30 this AM to find 76%. I have never felt that the power worked well on this computer. Battery behavior has persisted despite the battery being replaced and even a new hard drive put in and clean installed.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Maintenance (Full Recharge / Discharge)
I was wondering if doing a full charge and then a discharge is a good thing when a new mac or new battery is bought? Also should it just be a simple charge and discharge or does it have to be a full calibration? Also what is the best method in maintaining a healthy battery? Should I cycle at least once a week and do a calibration every few months? Or should one cycle per month be fine? Also is it alright if the battery is fully charged and I have the plug-adaptor plugged in to my MacBook Pro while using it? Finally, is it true that over night the plug or when not in use and not charging the plug should be outside of the MacBook Pro?

MacBook Air :: Lost Date - Time And WEP Key
I received my MBA last week. I haven't had any problems until now.

Last night I did a Shutdown. When I shut it down the battery was at 100%. I disconnected the MBA from the power. When I turned the MBA on this morning the date/time was reset and my WEP key was lost from my wireless settings. The battery still showed at 100%

The date/time reset seems like a total lose of power to the system, including BIOS (does a MBA have a seperate BIOS battery or is it run off the main battery?). The lose of the WEP key is confusing to me unless it it also stored in the BIOS.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Died While Using Time Machine / Lost GB
I was doing my first-ever Time Machine back-up tonight. I have about 130GB of data. About a half hour into it, my battery died and when I rebooted the computer from sleep mode, Time Machine said that the back-up had failed. I deleted the initial back-up in the 'Time Machine Back-Ups' folder, but it still says that I have 40GB less on my external hard drive than I actually do. My external hard drive is 300GB, so I should have 170GB left, but I only have 130GB.

How To Properly Charge / Discharge Macbook Air Battery
I want to know if leaving my Macbook Air charging 20/24 hours a day will decrease the battery's useful life? I like to use my external monitor and close the clamshell on the MBA, and the only way to do this is to connect the laptop's AC adapter. I also want to know if I should be discharging the battery completely once a week, as some Google searches have recommended? Basically, will the useful life diminish at a faster rate by not discharging the battery completely, and charging the battery constantly while the battery is at max capacity? I keep reading that with the newer lithium-ion batteries, it does not matter how the battery is charged, is this really true? I am concerned because the MBA battery cannot be easily replaced.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Boot Up After Battery Allowed To Drain?
I’m hoping someone can help me troubleshoot some strange behaviour of my Macbook Pro4.1. It’s an early 2008 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo. I’ve had this running perfectly for the past 2 months with an Apple 65W Magsafe Adaptor, although I recently got an 85w version so I’ve started using that for a bit. I recently read somewhere that it’s good to allow the battery run completely flat once a month or so, so I unplugged the adaptor last week and ran it off the battery for the afternoon. When it was almost done (10% charge left) I went for a shower and came back to find the Macbook powered down. I plugged in the Adaptor back in but I couldn’t get it to start.

I have to say at this point, that my 85w adaptor sometimes needs a wiggle at the magsafe end to get it to work. Despite this though I couldnt get the green power LED to light or the Macbook to boot up. I then tried my 65W adaptor, which is perfect, and although the LED lights up (first green and then amber) the macbook just doesnt power up with it. I tried the 85w one again the following day after leaving the macbook disconnected and battery removed overnight, and was pleased to find that it finally booted.  Amazingly, despite having no power at all for the whole night it came back with all my applications running, safari tabs and the documents open! Anyway, I noticed from the menu bar that the battery was not charging and I couldnt seem to get it to charge. I ran it all day and the system profile showed that the Battery was about half full and had a normal condition with about 187 charge cycles. However I cant run the Macbook off the battery. When the power cuts out from the 85w adaptor the whole macbook shuts down. The battery isn’t doing anything, even after charging all day and being half charged. What’s more neither of my 65w adaptors can start the macbook no matter how many times I try them. Only my 85w one can boot it, but it’s defective so very rarely seems to work. The 65W ones worked perfectly before,so I don’t know what’s changed.

I read the Apple guide to resetting the SMC and have now followed the procedure several times, but it hasn’t helped. I cannot boot the Mac any more. Does this Macbook come with an 85w adaptor or 65w? I’m confused because the 65w ones always worked until now. Also, the battery itself is only 60w. I’m going to purchase another 85w Adaptor, in the meantime any advice would be very welcome.

Mac Pro :: Replaced Int Battery - Still Get Date - Time ErrorMsg?
Recently started getting the Date & Time Error message when bootup completed to desktop each morning when starting up ol' PMG4. PMG4 is gigabit ethernet model with GigaDesign 1.3MHz CPU upgrade and running OSX 10.4.10. After a few days of this, I realized that internal battery must be going bad (although replaced it 2 years ago...). Had local Mac shop replace battery and for about a week all was good... Then message came back again! And then a few days later one of my internal hard drives went bad and crashed and icon disappeared from desktop....coincidence or ???

Anyway, took my PMG4 back to shop and they put in another battery for me....thinking that maybe battery wasn't so good that was put in. Guess what, still getting that error message every morning at bootup that Mac's date and time is set before 2001, etc. Any ideas as to what's causing this??? wasn't doing this until just recently.

Power Mac G5 :: Wrong Date And Time Settings And Failed Internet Authentication At Startup?
Wrong Date and Time settings and Failed Internet authentication at start up on PM G5

I have a recurring problem with both Date & Time wrong setting and failed Connection-to-Internet authentication occuring each time I switched on my Mac - either on OSX Tiger or Leopard. The symptoms are the following :

Initially I haveDate and Time (D&T) correctly configured in the D&T preference panel (region, Day, Hour, etc) with the update setting activated "automatically" via "Apple Europe [URL]. It worked perfectly well for months and even years since I bought my PowerMac G5 2x2 GHz in mid-2004.

Then, suddently few weeks ago the Date & Time setting is systematically going wrong at launch. When I started (switch on) my G5 - either on Tiger (10.4.11) or Leopard (10.5.4) volumes - I got the same Error Message :

"The clock of your Mac is set on a date from before March 21, 2001". Effectively that wrong date appears in the OSX menu bar and the D&T panel. The message also said : "Do use the D&T preference panel to correct it manually"!!

Of course, I did so. Therefore each time after I switched off the Mac G5 and restart it (from power off), the same D&T problem occurs - again either on OSX Tiger or Leopard. However when I simply "Reboot" on the same or the other volume there is no problem with D&T or Internet authentication. Everything goes well !!

I also did notice that simultaneously "Connection to Internet" displayed a message :"the authentication failed" !!

This message appears despite the correct ID and password are set on the Network preference panel (and supposed to be memorized) in the "Integrated Ethernet" configuration). Then as soon as I re-enter the Internet Network password in the alarm window it works : the Network is activated and .... D&T is also corrected automatically (right Day and Hour).

My conclusion is that both troubles are linked. However the question is either it's Connection to Internet which induced the Date & Time problem - may be (?) because if not connected at launch through the automatic setting from "Apple Europe [URL] D&T cannot set itself - or in contrary it's because D&T is disturbed - by what ?? - that Connection to Internet then failed to authenticate and open the network ??

I think the first assumption is more rationale. But that does not help me because I have already checked everything possible on OSX preference panels (D&T, Network, Account, etc) as well as other "usual suspects" (PRAM, zapping, permission repair, maintenance scripts, cleaning caches, etc, etc..). But unsuccessfully... Nothing works !!

Now I really don't know what to do to correct both disfunctions... except to reset completely the Network settings or even ultimately to reinstall the OSX system and apply all settings.

MacBook Pro :: Shuts Down With A Full Battery, Resets Date
I have a mid 2011 Macbook Pro that has been shutting down randomly. It'll have a  full battery, but shut down when I unplug it or even sometimes when it's still plugged in. Every time I start it up again, the date is changed to Jan. 1 2008 and there's a notification that because it's set to that date, some applications may respond "erratically". It did this for about 2 weeks, then was back to working fine for about a month and now it's started up again.

Today when I turned it back on after it shut down, a notification said to rebuild the iPhoto library. I didn't really know what it meant so I clicked OK because I thought it would help. Instead it erased my entire iPhoto library and shut down again.
