MacBook :: Computer Will Only Charge Battery When On And Open

Aug 18, 2010

I took this 13" macbook off of my sisters hands as she has already bought a new one for college. My hope was to save it, as it had stopped working a few months after she spilled some sort of drink on the keyboard. Here's the short story: Took it to local tech support office once it stopped working. They said logic board needed to be replaced, so it's a done deal. Opened it up, cleaned the entire inside of the computer with 95% alcohol and a toothbrush. Let it sit for a day to dry. Turned it on. It worked! But it was finicky in terms of when it would charge and when it wouldn't. Eventually stopped working again when the battery ran out of power and it would not recharge the battery or start up without the battery and just the power. Took it to a friend's house who has the same laptop. Swapped his charged battery into mine. Computer booted up and ran fine. Forgot to test if it was charging consistently by plugging my AC adapter into my computer.

However I did test my AC adapter on his mac with his battery, and that did work fine. So I had eliminated those as the problems and figured it must be something inside the computer. After researching, figured the problem must have been the DC-in board. And I ordered one of these: [URL] and installed it no problem. Now the computer will only charge when it is on and open. If I close the screen it will not charge. And once I open the screen, it shows that it is charging, but 0 battery life, then corrects to the proper amount, then 10 seconds later the light on the mag-power connector comes back on. Another important detail, the computer will not turn on or run while the battery is removed. Perhaps only the part of the logic board that controls the power directly from the mag-connector is fried, but the part the directs it to the battery is ok?

Also just noticed: When the power chord is unplugged, there is a consistent and accurate display of remaining battery life. However sometimes when I plug the power chord back in, it will read 0%, then random other percentages, while the light flashes between green and orange on the top of the power chord. I would like to be able to charge the thing while its closed. Also does this sound like a quark I could just live with? Or does it indicate it will probably fail very soon? Because I could live with this for another few months while I'm waiting to be able to afford another laptop. Even if it meant finding some alternative way to only run it off of only battery power, buying two batteries, and charging them outside of the computer through some third party laptop battery charger.

MacBook :: Unable To Charge Battery / Computer Doesn't Recorgnize The Charger

Jun 14, 2008

I have had my MacBook (aluminum) for 6 days, and all of a sudden i go to plug it in to charge (10% left) and the led on the magsafe doesn't come on and the computer doesn't recorgnize the charger (even in system profiler).

upon closer inspection i noticed the LED is on on the magsafe, it is just a very faint shade of green.I have tried a charger from a different MacBook but no luck. And i have also tried my charger and a different macbook and it charged it just fine.. so it's probably not my charger.

Any ideas?? i know i can go get it replaced.. but i would really like to not have to take a 45 minute drive to the apple store if i can avoid it.. (unless this problem is serious and should be replaced) also, if i get a replacement is it possible for them to just swap my HDD with the new one?

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Charge Battery / Charging Stucks At 99 Percent With Service Battery

Aug 20, 2010

I calibrated my battery for the first time since Dec. When I plugged it in this morning, it took 3 hours to charge all the way, and now it's stuck on 99% full, 0:00 till completely charged, and I'm getting an error when I click on the battery in the menu bar that says "Service Battery". When I click on the error, it tells me that it may not be functioning properly and to take it to an authorized apple service retailer. Before I waste 2 hours by going to the Apple store and back, has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to fix it without having it looked at?

MacBook Air :: Apple's Battery Is Removable - Battery Hold No Sufficient Charge

Mar 14, 2009

If you look at apple's battery life page it states the MBA battery is removable, I thought it wasn't supposed to be?Battery Lifespan For Apple notebooks with removable batteries ? such as the MacBook, MacBook Air, and 15-inch MacBook Pro ? a properly maintained battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 300 full charge and discharge cycles. You may choose to replace your battery when it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.

MacBook :: Battery No Longer Holds Long Charge / Worth Pursuing A Replacement Battery?

Jun 2, 2009

purchased a macbook Unibody back in October 2008 when they were released and use it heavily. The battery no longer holds a nice long charge - I get about 2 to 2.5 hours out of a full charge.

The battery has 149 cycles on it, which is obviously high (and correct, I use the hell out of it). With it still being in warranty, is it worth pursuing a replacement battery? Will Apple tell me to go take a hike with the high cycle counts?

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Charge Complete Battery / Service The Battery?

Nov 15, 2010

been using my older MBP with windows 7 for a while and have never notice oddies with the battery until now. Then recently after replacing the failed HD and re-installing Snow Leopard on my 2007 MBP, the battery panel is telling me "Service Battery"; it's battery health according to coconutBattery is fair for it's age (50%).

the unit (battery) has been replaced previously due to being considered 'under performing'. Is Snow Leopard trying to encurate it's users to replace the battery more frequently? If not, does anyone know why this appears? I'm at lost, since it appears to work fine, if not charging completely.

MacBook :: Unable To Charge Battery / Service Battery Message

Jul 20, 2010

So, I randomly clicked on my battery and noticed this "Service Battery" message. I had never seen it before. Obviously, this isn't a good thing. My Mac is 3 and a half years old so I'm not surprised this message poped up. So, I opened Coconut Battery and noticed my current battery capacity is at 65%. Even though charger says it's green, my battery isn't even charging. Should I make an appointment with Apple? My AppleCare expired so i'll have to buy a new battery when the time comes. I'm sure they're not cheap, either.

MacBook :: Battery Won't Charge - Getting "Not Charging" In The Menu Bar Battery Status?

Jul 1, 2012

I have a Mac 10.6.8 running Snow Leopard. My battery won't charge: all I get is "Not Charging" in the menu bar battery status; the power adapter doesn't light up either. It's not a problem with the battery—when I put my battery in my friend's MacBook, it worked just fine. His battery, however, wouldn't charge either when it was in my computer. I have tried resetting the SMC several times, following the instructions exactly. I've reset the PRAM, run disk repair, and fixed disk permissions. I don't have the money to take it to a repairman—even if I did, I need my computer every day for work.

MacBook Pro :: New Battery Not Getting Charge

Mar 1, 2010

Our old battery said it was needing to be replaced and my dad went out and bought a new battery for our 15" MBP from 2008 - running SL. I've put it in, it works, I've plugged the power cord into it, and the little light that indicates it's charging doesn't turn on. I checked in the menu and it said the battery isn't charging.

I've already pulled it out and then put it back in, shutting down of course. And I just tried resetting the SMC which has done nothing. It's not under warranty. I've just put the old battery back in and it doesn't seem to be charging it either. I'd be curious if the power cord was faulty, but it's powering the MBP at the moment.

ijust calibrated my batttery and my charger light is green which signifies its not charging anymore..and the icon at the top of my screen says charged..BUT Coconut battery says my current battery charge is as follows:

Original Battery Capacity: 5770 mAh

@100%

Additional Info:

so my battery charge is stuck at 99% and its been plugged in for the past 3 hours, and its saying my current battery capacity is higher than my original battery capacity.. is that normal?.. i cant seem to get my battery to 100percent and its not charging..

here is a screenshot of coconutbattery after calibration, i just got my macbook last week..should i be worried about the battery at all?

MacBook Pro :: How To Charge Battery

Jun 1, 2010

1) When you first get your Macbook Pro, should you let the battery die out completely and then fully charge it? Or should I charge it fully first? Or what? I don't want to mess up the battery with the first charge.

2) Do you leave your Macbook plugged in while you sleep, are not using it, etc? Or is that bad for the battery?

3) I've heard somewhere that it's bad to shut your Macbook off when you go out/go to sleep. Would it be wiser to just set it to "sleep" and keep it plugged in or something?

MacBook Pro 13' Battery Won't Charge

May 23, 2012

I'm using a MacBook Pro 13' and it's one year old. I bought it last year March. But after I purchased it, few months later, my laptop started playing up. First, it's faulty hardware, and i sent my laptop in to get a new hardware. Not long later, the battery won't charge. Whenever I touch or drop the adapter or connecter when it's charging, my laptop will shut down itself, and resetting. (when i tried to switch on, the date has changed) And it won't charge anymore. I get frustrated when ever I ask for repair and it seems nothing happen in Apple Care, and they refuse to repair it.

MacBook :: My Battery Won't Charge

Jun 6, 2012

My cat knocked over a glass of vodka/sprite onto my 13" white MacBook (the older version, from 2007 I believe). I let it dry out and took the battery out and everything and let it sit for a few days. It turned on when plugged in but the battery was dead. I purchased a new battery to replace it thinking it was just that the battery got ruined. However, the new battery I purchased will also not charge. It came partially charged and it worked and my MacBook had power without the power cord... until the battery died, and now i cannot get it to charge back up at all. Is this something that can be fixed? If so can I do it on my own or would I need to bring it to a Mac store, and what would that cost me? My concern about taking it in to get fixed is what it would cost me and if it is worth it seeing as my MacBook is pretty old.

MacBook Air :: Battery Won't Fully Charge?

Dec 29, 2010

I just got a new macbook air, it was working fine for a couple of days until yesterday.

The battery seems to be stuck at 98% - or was. I rebooted because I started to lag, and was updating, then I unplugged it and plugged it back in, then it went down to 97%. What confuses me is the fact it had been plugged in (while shut off), for about 8 hours and it should have been charged by the time I got around to using it. When I right click on the battery icon, it says the computer is fully charged.
