MacBook Aluminum :: Makes Creaking Sound Seems Like Screen Sticks And Makes That Noise
Just a couple weeks ago when I open and close my MacBook Aluminum 13 inch lid, it makes a creaking sound. It seems like the screen sticks and makes that noise. It makes more of a noise when I move the screen after is has been on for a little while, but it still makes a noise when I am just opening it to turn it on. Is this something I should be concerned about or can I just leave it alone and NOT see a genius?

MacBook Air :: Beeping Sounds Coming From Inside Computer
Every once in awhile my Mac Book Air beeps. It is not a sound effect. It sounds like it is coming from inside the computer. And it only seems to happen about the time I notice that my computer is getting really really hot. I just recently had the hard drive replaced because I was told that it was on the verge of failing (the sound card also was bad and the track pad button doesn't work but that's a whole other story!).

MacBook Pro :: Bottom Panel Often Makes Cracking Sounds
I have a MacBook pro mid-2010, 15", and since I got it in June, it often makes some kind of cracking/clicking noise. After looking where this could come from, I made out the bottom panel as the source of the noise. If you press it, this sound is hearable. Odd thing is that this also sometimes happens when you do normal things such as using the trackpad, or putting your hands onto the palm rests. Is there any way to stop this clicking/cracking sound? It's very annoying when I use it on my bed or on my knees.

IMac Intel :: Unable To Boot Up, Shows Black Screen Only, Chime Sounds, Target Disk Works?
I have an aluminum 20" iMac, mid-2007 2.0GHz model. This computer will not boot. When powered on, after hearing the normal Apple chime, the backlight of the display appears to be working but it only shows a black screen. I can hook a second monitor up via a Mini-DVI -> VGA adapter, however nothing is shown on the screen for a while, and eventually the lcd panel turns off and the secondary monitor will display "Remove all disks and media. Press any key to restart" or something to that effect, however the computer sits unresponsive after that point. Pressing the power button shuts the computer off instantly (ie no delay)

I have confirmed the computer will respond to some boot commands, such as the eject key to spit out any cd stored inside and target disk mode. I have confirmed that the computer is able to successfully boot into target disk mode and maintain this state, however the lcd panel continues to show only black, and the secondary monitor is not active. When attempting to boot from the Leopard install disk the computer simply restarts on its own when it should be loading the installer. When attempting to boot from a firmware restore disk I get similar results to a plain power-up, however there is an additional message on the secondary monitor before the other two stating something along the lines of 'no bootable media found' or 'unsupported boot media'. I know that the optical drive is working properly because I can read it via target disk mode.

I have pulled the memory out and run memtest on it using my blackbook and haven't encountered any errors. The hard drive has also been reformatted.

Once in a while I will get a stray line of pixels on the right side of the screen, extending about a third of the way across to the left, and about 2/3 of the way up from the bottom.

Mac Bluetooth :: Brand New Magic Mouse Makes Very Bright Beeping Noise
I am wondering if I am the only one whose brand new magic mouse makes a very bright beeping noise. It is not annoying or something because it's not loud at all. I'd like to ask you going to a quiet place and put the mouse right next to your head, with the front of the mouse facing your ear - and listen if you got the same. The tone changes when the sensor recognizes movement, so I guess that small LED (or whatever it is) is the problem.

MacBook Aluminum :: Screen Sporadically Goes Black (Video Out)
Using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, I'm connecting my MacBook to my Sony 52" LCD HDTV (1080p). The connection, at first, seemed flawless; perfect color and resolution. However, the screen will turn black (or off) at completely random intervals. For example, when watching a movie via iTunes, the screen will blink for about 1 full second every 30 minutes or so. I'm going to try using my Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and see if that solves the issue.

OS X :: Apple Mail Makes No Sounds?
I have configured Mail.app to make a sound (a short MP3 file) when new mail arrives. This used to work a few years ago.

For the past few years it hasn't worked. User interface sounds are switched on and everything is activated in System Preferences and Mail preferences.

When I check the settings for the MP3 file in Mail preferences, it even plays the file there. But when a new mail arrives it does not.

Simiarly, and I don't know if this problem is related or not, Skype has stopped making user interface sounds. Again, this is the same Mac, which is configured for user interface sounds in System Preferences, and Skype is configured to make a ringing sound when I call someone and some weird sound when I receive an instant message in a chat window.

IMac :: HD Makes Sounds Like Reading Data When Idle
How quiet should the new 27" iMac's be running? Mine is fairly quiet but not silent. I recall reading a review prior to buying that had said it runs silent, so I'd like to make sure I don't have a defective system. I can hearing a very slight persistent sound. It's so slight I don't know how to describe it accurately--sounds like it could be a bit like a buzzing or a rotating sound. Or perhaps it's just normal operational sound? The HD will also make some sounds like it's reading something even when I'm not really doing anything.

MacBook Air :: W/SSD Makes Click - Click Sounds Every 6 Seconds?
I've read the post that describes ticking sounds that people are reporting on presumably MBAs w/HDD. That post seems to imply the ticking sounds come from the HDD. After reading that post and prior to receiving my MBA w/SSD today I thought I would not be plagued by the ticking sounds. However, I find that my MBA w/SSD is now making click-click sounds every 6 secs with about 1 sec between the click-click all the time.Do others w/SSD hear these click-click sounds every 6 secs or so ?I've disconnected the Mag Safe and it makes no difference. I've disconnected my USB-Ethernet adapter ad it makes no difference. The MBA is not hot either.I will say though that I don't recall hearing these sounds when I first booted my MBA today. It seems to have started some 6 hours after having used the MBA for the first time.

I'm starting to find these click-click sounds annoying as apart from them the MBA is completely quiet and it's now become like hearing the tic-tok sound of a clock when trying to get to sleep.

IMac Intel :: When Insert New Blank Disc / It Makes Lot Of Sounds
My iMac is almost 3 years old. i have burn several CDs and DVDs since I bought it. Lately I having problems reading and writing DVD-R and CD-R discs. When you insert a new blank disc it makes a lot of sounds. With a little bit of luck it wont eject it and you would be able to drag files to it and burn it. At te beginning of the burning proces, it makes a lot of sound and many times a message will apear saying that it can calibrate de laser lens or wont recognize the media.

When you insert a burned CD-R or DVD-R it makes a lot of sound and many thing could happend, like work fine, it could be be immediately ejected, a blank disk message appears asking what to do, etc. lately it is more difficult to read my backups.

Industrially burned discs like movies DVDs, audio CDs and Software discs works fine most of the time. Also when using Parallels I can read my CD-R without much problem. This makes me think that it could be a Software issue.

MacBook Aluminum :: Unexpected Alert Sounds / Noises When Doing Anything
Only recently my MacBook has started making alert noises when I'm not doing anything. Sometimes it will make the noise that happens when you would usually see an error window pop up but nothing shows and it repeats the noise maybe four or five times. Today, I opened mail and it made the noise that I would get if I had new messages, when I had none! I don't know where the other noises come from as I often have multiple applications open when it happens but nothing bounces or opens a window. I have never had anything like this problem before!

MacBook :: Beeping - Confirmation Dialogue Comes Up And Screen Froze
I was putting a fresh install of OS X on a friend's MacBook. I put in the disk, it asked me to restart, and I went to Disk Utility (on restore disk) to zero out the data on the hard disk. I clicked partition (since he had a boot camp partition) to 1 partition and clicked apply. Here's where things go kinda weird. The confirmation dialogue comes up and the whole screen froze. I waited for a few minutes but nothing. I then held the power button until it shuts down. Reboot, and there's this beeping noise. It beeps 2 times, stops, and then beeps 3 times. I searched Google, which pulled up entries like bad RAM or something, but my RAM wad upgraded a long time ago, really rare coincidence that it failed while Disk Utility (off the restore disk) froze. I need to install the OS.
