can use to schedule when to launch an app or script? Basically I want to display a dialog box with a message or a growl notification at a certain time monday to friday. I can make this notification as an automator script but I need a way to schedule when for it to run...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Transmission so I can download torrents, however I want to schedule them to run between 2am and 8am on my off peak hours. When I go to preferences>bandwidth and go to schedule the speed limit, I am unable to set the times in the data boxes, it won't let me add numeric data. All I can do is toggle the arrow buttons from AM to PM. I had the same problem with igetter, so I'm assuming this problem is something to do with the settings on my mac and maybe not transmission.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm familiar with using "log in" items in OSX to automatically launch applications upon startup, which is GREAT! However, I'm looking for a little more control over this process.
Is there a way to schedule when an application launches; e.g. 10min after startup? Similarly, is there a way to get programs to automatically quit at a specific time, and re-open at another; e.g. quit at 9:00am, turn on at 12:00pm?

I thought the point of icloud was to be able to make calendar appointments on your phone and have them go to the calendar on your computer?

I would prefer the backup to run when I am not working on the computer (instead of every hour). Can the Time Machine Scheduler be trusted or is there another option to manage the backup schedule?

Is there anything other than iCal I can use to create a schedule? iCal just doesnt seem as easy as it could be to create a pretty basic schedule. Would prefer a free option but would also like to say apps I would have to pay for.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently on an internet plan that is divided into on peak and offpeak times. I am coming up to my monthly cap of onpeak and i am either asleep or not home during my offpeak times. I was just wondering if there is an app out there that i can use to easily set my MBP to wake from sleep at like 2 a.m. to start downloads.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIf you use a external harddrive, I assume you have to turn it on 24hrs a day? And when the mac sleeps does it still back up on schedule? Can I use a internal drive i.e. bay 2 or 3 etc?

I need an easy and reliable way to schedule emails to be sent out at a particular time via mail.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a new external hard drive (500 gigs), and already backed up my mac once. Now it does it every hour. But I want it to back up like once a day, not 24 times a day. How do I change the back up schedule?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a program that will let me delete old Time Machine backups on a schedule. I am aware that TM will delete old backups once the drive is full. However, I don't want to let TM fill up my hard drive (having a ton of backups is not useful to me, and I use my hard drive to store movies as well), and I don't like having to manually delete backups when I want to add more files to my external hard drive. I've read many forum posts that recommend "just letting TM do its thing."
I'm just looking for a way to minimize the number of backups that are kept so I can keep plenty of open space on my hard drive for when I add to my movie collection. I'm already using TimeMachineEditor to back up less frequently, but what I would really like is a program that will automatically delete an old backup every time I add a new one. Ideally, I'd like to back up once a day and keep a week's worth of backups. So, once I have 7 backups on my hard drive, the next time my computer backs up the oldest of those 7 will automatically be deleted.
Somebody knows, how to restart the mail service daily at 6 am in MAC OS X Server
I explain:
1. I used ''mailbfr'' to backup the IMAP mailboxes, but the mailbfr doesn't restart my mail service correctly after the backup, so I need to make this manually each time.
2. I want to restart the mail service with a schedule task, but i dont know the procedure
Can you schedule Time Machine backups?

Tonight I followed the instructions someone had posted to this forum (and lots of other places online) to run the following in Terminal:
sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto StartInterval -int 86400
Then I logged out and then logged back in again to reload.
This is supposed to change the Time Machine backup interval from 1 hour to once every 24 hours.
Maybe it does, but I noticed something weird: every time I load up Time Machine Preferences from the menu bar, the time to "Next Backup" changes by subtracting 1 hour or so from its previous value just a few minutes ago when I checked.
If I check again immediately, it is the same (e.g. Today, 9:20pm) but if I wait awhile and load it again, it changes to something like "Today, 8:20pm"
Not sure what's going on here and can anyone offer any comments if I even executed this command correctly in the first place?
Sometimes restarting is not enough: you need to power off your Mac, wait for a little, and power it on again. It could be a script which act like the "schedule" program in system preferences: it would switch off the Mac immediately, the add 1 minute to the current time and switch it on again.

I've just noticed that the TM schedule appears to be backing up every 2 hours as opposed to very hour as it should be.I have not tried to make any manual changes.

So last December my laptop got smashed and everything works except for the backlit screen. In fact I can still use this laptop it is just extremely hard since the screen does not light up. The person that smashed it ended up buying me a new laptop so I have this beat up (and I mean the shell is destroyed) laptop with quite a lot of functioning parts.
Now a few weeks ago my girlfriends Grandad spilled a beer on his brand new 2010 Macbook. The logic board is shot so it is almost cheaper for him to buy a brand new laptop.
Would it be possible for me to take the logic board out of my 2008 Black Macbook and put it into his 2010 White Macbook?
By far the most interesting benchmark trend coming out of the latest Macbook Air tests is that of the 320M GPU - is this thing somehow clocked differently than in the Macbook/Macbook Pro?
From:
[URL]
The latest Macbook Pro 13" 2.4 Ghz gets 33 FPS in Call of Duty 4, whereas the Macbook Air 13" (using the same 320M GPU) gets 40 FPS. Even the 1.4Ghz 11" gets 37! So obviously we're not talking about a CPU limited game - the only explanation then is that the GPU in the Macbook Air is clocked differently than in the 13" Macbook Pro, no?

Again the Macbook Air clocked at 2.13 ghz is beating the 2.4 Ghz Macbook Pro in World of Warcraft and Portal! And in WOW the 11" 1.4ghz still manages to beat the 2.4 Ghz 13" Macbook Pro.
Anyone have any additional insight into this? Anand did a terrible job of testing these for gaming performance, unfortunately, so he may not have even noticed this trend.
Is the white one the same size as the 13" aluminum that now went pro?Pretty much, I want to know if I buy a case for the original 13" Metal uMB from InCase, will it fit on this plastic one? They don't have blue for this, but they have blue for the original aluminum one.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 13" white, plastic MacBook. Its a bit slow, but adequate. Thinking of selling it and paying the difference to get the 11" MacBook Air. I've heard it is similar in speed and has the same processor.
The main problem I have with my current MacBook is that its heavy - I need something lightweight to easily carry to school and class for note-taking and such.
How is the Air better or worse, and would I be losing anything significantly by replacing the 08 plastic MB with a MBA?

I just upgraded my daughter from last year's MacBook to a new 2009 MacBook Pro (my mother will get her old one) by cloning the drive using SuperDuper. Everything works fine except it doesn't detect the audio hardware in the OS. I see that the new macbook pro has different audio hardware according to system profiler. Is there a way to copy the driver off the install DVD or should I just go ahead and reinstall everything.

I just bought a macbook as a replace for my five year old iBook. I was planning on purchasing a second power adapter. I like the size and more rugged connector on the Macbook Air power adapter.
I have searched around and it sounds like the Air adapter will work with a MacBook but I am not completely convinced. I understand that this adapter will only charge or power the unit but not both.
Has anyone tried their Air adapter on a MacBook? Could an Air owner tell me the voltage and current rating (outputs) on their adapter?
I currently play warcraft on my older macbook pro. I am attracted by the latest macbook/macbook pros. But will the latest macbook still play warcraft well, or do I stay with the latest macbook pro?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wanted to know if I can replace the upper case of a Core Duo white macbook with that of a Core 2 Duo black macbook? The white one has the distinctive yellowing of the rev A macbooks, so i'd like to make it better whilst making a black/white frankenMac.
If not, can I at least replace the airport card?
I'm putting a computer in my kitchen that anybody in the house can use (kids & parents). It will be hooked up to a 24" LCD and also act as a small file server, dvd player and perhaps eyetv dvr.
I like the mini because it is small (can hide in the cabinet where spills won't get it), is cheap and uses only 13W when idle. But when I think down the road, 4 year old laptops seem a lot more useful than 4 year old mac minis. So I'm a bit torn.
So my questions are:
- Does anybody know how much power the macbook uses when "idle" (just running finder).
- Can the macbook be run with the lid closed? (I know old powerbooks used to vent hot air through the keyboard.)
(Then again, I have the computer in the kitchen so I can watch my kids on the computer. In 4 years they'll be 5 years old and probably want a laptop they could have in their own room - exactly what I want to avoid. And I'll probably upgrade my macbook pro by then anyway.)
