I am giving my wife my MacBook Pro to replace her MacBook. I have been able to transfer documents, iTunes and photo's (thanks Terence Devlin) to my former MacBook Pro. I am now trying to make her the administrator. I have gone into system preferences and have not been able to proceed from there.

I'm about to buy a used MBP unibody 13" and no... its not stolen, seller has receipts for MBP and Applecare. Its about a year old. So I'm just wondering how difficult it is to delete his admin account and make a new one? I know I could just add an account, but that's goofy. The machine only has iWorks and iLife installed and has been upgraded to Snow Leopard. Is this the same as a PC... reformat the HDD and reinstall the OS and two apps or is there a simpler route? Will the SL CD from my iMac 24 work with the MBP? Is the other alternative to bring it to an Apple store and have them reconfigure? That's a ride+ and how much will they charge for that? BTW, are there "older" spec unibody MBP's? This one was purchased early in 2009, just wondered if there were different graphics in different releases? This one has the 2.53G procesor, 250G HDD, and 4 Megs or RAM.

How do I get a new Administrator password for my computer?I was trying to change the password on my computer. I have done this before under "System Preferences", then "Security and Privacy". So I entered my old password, and then entered the new one...twice as always and THEN I don't know what I did, but a window popped up that I didn't finish reading completely because as I was in a hurry I accidentally hit 'enter' and that did something.. now my computer does not accept my password. I've tried both the old and new one.

When I go to system preferences and then groups and users, it is showing that a guest user has set up a profile. I did not set this up. My computer won't let me erase this user.  The "minus" symbol at the bottom of the tab is highlighted grey and my mouse can't select it. Also, the box that says "let this user administer this computer is checked and it won't let me uncheck it. Weird. What do I do?

I have a mid-2009, 2.66 GHz MacBook Pro (MacBookPro5,3). The computer has dual graphics chipsets, an NVidia 9400m and 9600M GT, both with 256 MB of VRAM. To change between the two, the user must select which one he or she wants to use. However, that user must have administrator privileges.Â
I am not the administrator. Is there a way I can have the graphics system permanently set to the higher-performance chipset, because the system seems to automatically default to the 9400m. It is annoying to contact my administrator every time I need to run a high performance game or aggressively use SketchUp, Final Cut, etc.Â

I need to reset my administrator password on my Mac Book Pro Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I did put my os (10.6.1) in the drive and holding the c Button. Choose the language and went on the main screen. I can see the utilities but it's grayed out can't click Reset Password on my main desktop its showing: Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer. If you want to restore your system from a time Machine backup ,click "Restore from backup".

Setting up a Macbook air for one of the kids, ready for Santa to deliver.
Everything seems fine (new Apple ID's , creation of a happy family in the cloud etc) ...until I wanted to set up the Parental Controls.
I have added myself as administrator and reduced his account to standard as with the instructions I have seen elsewhere. I can set the constraints no problem on his computer.
However, even though I checked the "manage control from another computer" box on the MBA, the "master "iMac where I want to do the control will not let me.Â
I go into the iMac to do the Parental control, I see the MBA in question. I select, and when it prompts me to enter the administrator details; but it will not recognise me. This is the administrator id I created on the Macbook air.
I have tried several times, and after it fails, it seems to freeze the Parental Control Preference view , and won't allow me to select that machine again. I have to go out of preferences and return, unlock and try again - each time it fails.Â
Of course I can wrench the Macbook from his grubby hands each time I want to change the constraints; but being able to remotely do it from my evil genius' lair was what I wanted to do.
All machines mentioned have been Yosemite'd, and are all latest versions.

when I use time machine it's can backup all of my mac folder but not my administrator home folder. time ago I used FileVault, but I got this message:
"There was a problem deleting the folder in a safe start earlier in the process of conversion of FileVault.the process of elimination sure that the directory has failed before the beginning could be completely eliminated"Â
I use google translated because it was in the language of my country. I tried to turn it off, I mean filevault, but it doesn't work.
How do I delete text. Let's say I wrote the wrong word, as you know a Windows keyboard has "Delete" and "Backspace" keys, but a MacBook keyboard only has a "Delete" key which acts like the "Backspace" key. So in order for me to delete on work I have to go behind the text and use it like backspace.. how do I just delete the word from the front?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI never use "User Accounts" on my MacBook. So I don't know much about them.
If I delete one User Account, will it delete that user's libraries, such as their music, movies, documents, etc?
Also, will it delete the programs that were installed under that user's account, but are accessible by all users?
This morning I suddenly found out that, on my new macbook pro, command-delete will delete the file (with the warning window) immediately without putting it into trash first. This function works well yesterday.

I installed 10.6.3 on my 250GB USB drive - no problem.
But I can't log in as the administer.
I changed the password in the System acc.,
reset it on the installation disc, and still no go.
Does anybody have an idea how to fix this?
BTW,I'm using 10.4.11 now.
After upgrading (and having the install fail once, and then have the new mac version of blue screen of death) I have now noticed that the admin privileges on my account are now gone.I cant authenticate anything and my account is listed as "Standard" in the preferences pane.I came home from Florida last night and left the install disc in my dorm. Any way to do this without using the Password Reset on the dvd? Regardless, I dont think it would help, since there isnt even an admin account listed.

But whenever I download a .mpgk file, which opens in installer, I have to install it to applications, so i need to have an administrator password. (specifically I'm trying to install mono or the C# plugin for Xcode). Is there any way to change the install destination ON macintosh HD, and move it to my user desktop?
