MacBook Air :: Changing Glassy Trackpad - Similar Transition?
Jan 17, 2010
I've become really accustomed to the glass trackpad. I went into my local store to try out the Air again, and realised just how much I prefer the glass trackpad and buttonless design. Has anyone else done a similar transition?

I just got back from checking out the new MBAs at the Apple Store. I know that there are a lot of discussions about the power and capability of the system, and the sacrifices made for its thinness. My thing is that I need a 13 inch or smaller system because I commute with it every day, but I absolutely hate the glass screens on the MBP. Has anyone else noticed that the glossy but not glassy display on the MBAs is actually much better with reflections? I think that alone may be enough of a reason to switch from a MBP to a MBA.

I have no use for the "show desktop" thing you get when you drag four fingers up, so I would LOVE to be able to see all spaces instead. It would be perfect, first four fingers up to enable spaces, then down again to view all windows.

I'm new to these forums because I am considering making the switch from HP to Mac. I am sick and tired of having to buy a new computer every 2 years (if I"m lucky) because mine gets a virus or whatever (and I have a virus scan thing). My desktop computer loses the internet ALL THE TIME, but I admit that if I used my laptop, which is at school, then I probably wouldn't lose the signal. what do you like most about your MacBook? Has anyone else made the transition from Windows to Mac. I use Mac sometimes at school, and I find it kind of confusing, haha. I figure it probably just takes some getting used to.

My Macbook running 10.6.8 recently died.My backup is on Time Machine and is on an external drive. I do plan on getting a new Mabook Pro with core i5 running 10.9. How do I transition my information from my back up to the new laptop smoothly. I realize I will lose some of my programs that were not 64 bit.

Quick question: I'm upgrading from a late 2007 C2D MB (OSX 10.5.8) to the current 17" MBP, and I keep regular back ups on Time Machine. Besides the programs that won't working jumping into 10.6, are there any other issues i might face? And how exactly do I go about restoring from time machine to make a seamless transition to my new machine?

I'm using Yosemite, yet many of my application like Pixelmator, Autodesk inventor, says " this application requires OS X version 10.6.7 or higher". Also when I go on Youtube or other sites, only black box appears, no video loads. While playing a video on my hard disk, I can hear only audio but no video is displayed. Transition effects are slow and can not hear or see and preview of audio or or video files. I tried AHT hardware check but it says no errors found.

I have an late 08 unibody Mbp and a 11 mba, I have noticed the glass trackpad on the air is much closer to the glass on an iphone in the way your finger reacts to it... the least bit of moisture and your finger doesn't glide as easily. On the pro it seems to have more of a coating to allow for smoother use under these normal conditions (humidity). Has anyone else noticed this? bottom line the air trackpad almost seems more polished.

My MB's trackpad button is spoilt, I think there's something wrong with the spring which makes it unclickable and sometimes remains pressed.
Is there anyway to disable only the trackpad button but not the whole trackpad? Tapping still works, but the MB mistakens it as dragging sometimes because the button is stuck as a pressed button.

I am in real estate and all I really need a computer for is email, and generating generic letters to prospective clients. I always used microsoft word, and out look for my day to day operations.
Does Iworks have something similar to Microsoft Word?
What year, and where would be the best place to buy Microsoft Outlook for my mac?
Someone told me you can find better prices then what Microsoft sells software for.

When Steve Jobs does his presentation he frequently uses a transition whereas a big announcement is being made, say, a price drop or a launch date the announcement is made with a transition that drops down and lands with a 'thud' and there is then smoke rising from the word that dropped down.
Can anyone tell me what transition this is and where I could get it to implement into my presentation?

I spilled water on my Macbook and now it's splotchy, bright in some places, dark in others. It's an early 2008 model white Macbook. I have an older one that's not in use. It's a white Macbook also, same size.RM5510L8U9B is the serial number. Can i swap out the screens? Will they be compatible?

I have two external hard drives with very similar iTunes libraries. The older one has some albums that the newer one does not, the new one has more albums from some of the artists as well as new artists. I have tried moving the files before and ended up loosing a lot of content. What is the best way to merge all of the music onto one hard drive while ensuring that a file with more information isn't being overwritten by a file with less information with the same name?

Is iPhoto graphic card intensive? On my Early 2008 MP every time I go to full screen mode (already evident in '09) the graphics card fan spins up and there is a discernible pause in transitioning. I think with Lion's big emphasis on full screen functionality, I will be annoyed to death with the pause and annoying fan's whirl.
Is the 2600xt really that outdated? I don't want to get a card for gaming purposes but something that will remedy this. During the presentation you see how fast the applications respond and they're using a iMac. I thought with 8cores I would be at least on par but it could be the graphics card as well. Such a downer.

I've created an iMovie that's full of transitions, effects, and titles. Now I have a problem that I found a typo in one of the titles, and I want to go back and change it. One problem, it's in a clip that has a transition, and trying to delete the transition crashed iMovie. (A nice generic 'The application iMovieHD quit unexpectedly.') This is with iMovie 5.0.2 on OS X 10.4.3, on two separate computers. (The two in my .sig)
Short description: So, to start from the beginning, I have a 'source' clip. I then added a title to this clip (Music Video style.) Then I used the 'slow' function to slow the clip to 1/3 normal speed. Finally, I transitioned from this clip to the next clip with a 1 second-long dissolve. (The next clip has the same type of title and slow done to it, only with different text.)
Excrutiatingly long description: This clip has no transition leading in (although there is a clip before it,) and the clip following has no transition leading out. (So these two clips could be considered to be a single group that could theoretically be taken separately from the rest of the movie.) Trying to remove a similar transition from similar clips in the movie also fails. (The movie consists of 20 clips from DV, each of the 20 with the same type of title, each with the same 1/3 slowdown, paired up with a dissolve transition between the pairs. The clips are in groups of four, with a black intro text at the beginning of each group, a fade from black into the first clip, followed by two transitioned clips, two more transitioned clips, a third set of transitioned clips, and a clip that fades to black, then a 'postscript' text. Then the cycle starts again, five groups like this in a row.

I've recently started to use iMovies 09 and have found it quite easy. Although on my latest project one transition I'm using (mosaic) doesn't accept the change to the duration. I can change the duration in the inspection box, but then it doesn't accept that change in the actual transition down in project area.
It says 6.0s in the inspection box, but 1.0s on the actual transition.

I'm trying to work out the easiest / fastest way to get up and running on the new machine.

I've installed and deleted quite a few programs off my MBP so far and I'm curious if there is a function/utility similar to Windows Disk Defrag on a Mac? In the event that there are some files I forgot to delete, I just wanted to make sure I got rid of all the files and not have old uninstalled program data hogging up space on my hard drive. I'm still in a Windows state of mind since I just recently purchased my MBP so I'm not sure if the MBP will automatically remove all the files once a program is deleted or if some residual program files still remain even after I delete a program.

Is there anyway to make the transition from Aperture 3 to Lightroom 5 where my adjustments to my photos also make the transition? Without having to export all my adjusted photos as TIFFs from Aperture?
I have over 20,000 photos in Aperture. I have Lightroom 5 and have read through this [URL] ... but am a little freaked out about the paragraph about adjustments not making the transition. And yes, I can keep Aperture on my computer, but eventually it will no longer work with an OS or a chip or something as computers continue to progress.

I just bought my first Mac this past week and absolutely love it. I went with the 13" 2.26. I am extremely happy with my purchase but I have one question...How realistic is you claimed 7 hour battery life? I expect the battery to last longer and shorter depending on how you are using you Mac but sometimes I feel like it isn't performing as it should. As I'm typing this I have 88% left on the battery and 5:50 till empty (25% brightness and backlight off). I have itunes on but not playing. The problem is when I try to watch youtube or anything else similar, the time till empty goes down a few hours. (from 6 down to 3 hours left till empty).

so I have Keynote '09 and am using it for a presentation for school. My question is this: how can I set the default transition/effect for text on a page?
Ideally I would like to do this because it gets annoying when I need to do the same setting in every slide. I would like to make these the defaults:

I'm fairly new to Keynote. OH...MY...GOD! This blows away powerpoint. Wish I would have known that sooner.
Anyway, I was playing around with the trial version of Keynote '09 and the magic move transition is pretty damn cool. At first I was hesitant about buying the full version because I have to use powerpoint at work for all my presentations so I lose all the cool transitions and there are some format issues. However, if you export your Keynote '09 presentation as a Quicktime file, the magic move transition works! The reflection of a picture (which looks amazing) also works in Quicktime. Of course I haven't tried to open it on a PC yet since I don't allow those pieces of crap in my house, but I'll test it at work tomorrow.

I have windows 7 installed in bootcamp.
I made it a VM for Fusion 3. Installed VMWare Tools.
If I wanted to transition to Parallels 5...
Would I (most likely), uninstalled VMWare Tools, reboot.
Then tells Paralells to make Bootcamp a VM.. then install the Parallels Tools.
My basic wonder, is can I do this. or will I have to fully reinstall the entire bootcamp partition to make the switch.

I've been syncing a number of calendars from my Mobileme account and sharing them on numerous devices and with a number of associates and family. And I'm still using OS10.6, haven't moved to Lion yet, so I can't use iCloud. Do I have to give up on sharing my iCal calendars? I don't really like using google calendars to share, but that's the only alternative i can figure out.

I have a white shell Fall 2007 (Santa Rosa) Macbook with a 120gb 7200 RPM hard drive. I bought a new 320gb hard drive and snow leopard today and want to ensure that I won't lose anything if I back my hard drive up as a "regular leopard" machine and then try and recall the files after installing the new drive as a "snow leopard" running system.

When I make a slideshow with music in iDVD, it plays fine on my Mac, but after burning the DVD, there is a short audio dropout at each transition between photos when I play the DVD on my home DVD player. Am not sure if this is a player problem, or what I can do to get around it.Your answer can be technical.
