My computer used to say that 30gb was taken up by "other" but now other is 0gb and 75gb is applications. and i don't download a lot of applications. it used to say like 5gb under applications but why now does it say 75??i have a macbook air 11" mid 2012.

I was checking out my Activity Monitor the other day and I have noticed this before. I have 4GB in my MacBook Pro and updated to SL and now AM is only showing that I have 3.75GB. I figured maybe it was just an error and I have shut my MBP off and it still hasn't changed.

I am now eligible for any iPhone upgrades and most likely will be getting the new one coming out this summer - whatever it may be. I realized today that most likely it will have 64GB of storage - the exact same size as my Macbook Air - I think it is so wild my future phone/pocket computer will have the exact same storage capacity as my main laptop. I could potentially mirror everything on my Mac that is on my iPhone in the future.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 27" i7 with a SSD and a HD. I use Gmail / Imap, but I store my message on my Mac so I can easily search through them.
However, my Gmail account is large enough that it fills my SSD. I need the mail application to store the message on the HD. I can't find an option to make that happen.
Anyone know of a work around?
I've been trying to figure out how iPhoto stores its photos. I've heard that it stores multiple copies of my pictures. I started wondering what was going on when, after importing all my pictures into iPhoto, I started to remove red eye from some pictures. I noticed that after removing the red eye and saving and closing iPhoto, if I opened it back up and looked at the photos that I removed the red eye from... not sure how to describe this, but basically the pictures opened up with 'blurry' eyes and then they focused in and were sharp and had no red eye. It wasn't like after I removed the red eye the picture was saved in that state, but rather the photo was marked as having red eye in an area and every time its opened the red eye is removed.
After some searching, I noticed it keeps a copy of the original and the edited version. However, I don't want to keep the original if I accept the edited. I don't know if it needs the original and it just marks the area of the original to remove the red eye each time it's opened. I'm curious if I was to email the picture if the recipient would see red eye or not. This post says I can delete the originals folder [URL] but if I examine my iphoto library, my originals folder has 1.3gb and the next biggest folder (modified) is 75mb so I think all the photos are stored in the originals and I don't want to delete them. Why does the red eye edit itself out each time rather than saving that way?
Can I use my flash drive as a storage for music and use it in iTunes. Like how on a CD it shows it as a CD and lists the songs on it. I would like to do this on a flash drive as well.

I was wondering what is the best way to format and partition it so that I can use 300gb dedicated to Time Machine and then use the ~180gb for external storage. The key part of my situation is that I want to be able to access the ~180 gb from both my Mac and my windows based machines. I know I could go into disk utility and partition it, but what format should I use if I want to do both.
The other part is the hard drive is already setup to use time machine since yesterday, however I am willing to format it completely to partition it to use on windows machines (XP and Vista.)
I've got my iTunes Library on an external drive, but for some reason all of my Apps download onto my internal hard-drive, and if I move them onto the external drive they all corrupt.Any suggestions? The music/videos work perfectly.

I started noticing my Mac Mini was having trouble reconnecting my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, slow processing (spinning pinwheel of death), and programs freezing. I did a recovery within Lion from the recovery drive and it seemed to work for a week or so. It started acting up again. So, I decided to erase the HD and reinstall Lion. I basically use the Mac Mini as a server for all my iTunes content. Â
My iTunes default save location is to my Drobo storage unit. Now that I have reinstalled Lion, I am looking for the easiest, most convenient, and safest way to change the default save location in iTunes and then importing the media. It would be nice if it was possible to just simply change the default save location to the folder I previously had all my media saved in and it would just magically appear in iTunes. Everything was organized perfectly, which took hours of time and attention to details. Â

My iphone and ipad are there and show their latest backups. Does this mean my macbook isn't backed up to icloud? I am using Lion and iCloud seems to be on in my Macbook's System Preferences. My photos stream fine and my calendar moves from my iphone to my mac wirelessly. What am I missing?

I take tons of pictures and that is what's sucking up all of my memory. I currently have a 2011 Macbook Pro OS X Lion Version 10.7.4. 4 GB memory 2 GHz processor. Now that I look at the "About This Mac" it says all of my storage is "Other" with 0 KB in everything else like photos and apps which I know is false. Anyway, what should I do? Should I go to best buy and get a bigger memory? its currently 500 GB & 499.25 of that is filled up... What could I delete to free up space? Should I partition my photos onto an external hard drive?

I have a solid state memory in the airbook mac and want to free up storage space. Transfering files to external jumpdrives and putting files into the trash does not free up the space. The wording is 'MAC OS extended' in the format space when disc utility is opened and top title 'erase' is selected.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday I completed a 4 hour backup of my 64 Gb iPad on my 11" MBA. I started with 75 GB available before I synced and backed up my iPad and then checked it again after the sync completed and ended up with 67 GB available. I can't figure why I dropped so much storage after everything backed up. I checked my mobile sync folder and can only attribute 2.25 GB as my backup size for my ipad which means I lost an additional 5.75 GB and is being tied up somewhere on my flash drive. Could anyone please give me a suggestion or idea in how I can determine where the extra storage went?

So far, I have been burning all movies on DVDs, but now i need space for music and pics. What is your advice? I do not want to buy a wired device, because MAB has only one USB port. At the same time they told me that the Time Capsule does not really work very well, and i do not really need another wireless router anyways. Would you guys reccomend another wireless HD? Which one? Or, put differently, what solution did you go for?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook with a storage drive connected via firewire. All was fine but now suddenly it won't show the contents of the folders and it won't eject. I tried dragging it to the trash, and I also tried the eject arrow in the list of drives. I tried to open Disk Utility, but it just spins. I also tried to throw something else away in the trash, and the trash folder will not take it.
Normally if something like this happened, I would just restart and hope it rights itself, but I don't know if I can do that with a storage drive still attached. (On another occasion, the storage drive got pulled out improperly and luckily I was able to repair it with Disk Utility.)
When I bought my 13" MBP I swapped out the 160 GB stock HDD with a 320 GB one. The 160GB HDD is just laying around now and I would like to use it as an external storage device.
