MacBook Air :: 2010 13" MPA Screen Flickering & Frozen Screen?
I've had the new macbook air just two days now. Turned it on this morning, used it for like 5 minutes and the screen just started flickering, and the whole machine just froze on me! Had to do a system reset, but I'm a little concerned after spending over a grand on this macbook! Has anyone else experienced this? I'm actually thinking about returning the machine..

Intel Mac :: Screen Blank On 27" Mid 2010?
Recently my iMac display goes black in the middle of using it.  Initially I thought it froze up and I had to force it to reboot.  But after this happned a couple of times I realized that I could stil hear the hard drive working and my peripheral lights (keyboard, etc) were still on.  On a hunch I put it to sleep (Option-Cmd-Eject).  After it goes silent I can press a key and the display comes back up and everything is normal (for a while).

It's now been doing this regularly for the last 3 weeks.  Sometimes three or four times a day this occurs. When the screen goes black nothing seems to work except the sleep-wake thing.  I've tried the screen brightness keys too - but that doesn't work either.

My software is up to date (Lion 10.7.4). This is a Mid 2010 iMac 27" with 12GB of RAM and the ATI Radeon HD5750.The regular software that I have running is:

Light-room 4

MacBook Air :: Black Screen On Late 2010?
After try to get it out of sleep mode the screen stayed black

Tryed to turn it on several times (magsafe or batery)

Reset the PRAM

Reset the SMC

Tryed Safe Mode

Tryed everything I've found about it but the screen is still black. The mac is on, can hear the fan and the lion start cause when I press a key I can hear a "bump"

Is that a know issue? Does apple offer an extra warranty period on this issue because it seems to be a comon issue on this machine.

MacBook Air :: Screen Gets Blank - Need To Restart
Got this mac friday but haven't really played with it before yesterday. My problem is:

1) Yesterday I went for logging in to facebook, but suddenly the screen went green? Had to close the mac down and start it again.
2) After I had turned it on and was on the desktop the screen (with me doing nothing) went white, and I had to do the same again.
3) This morning when I wanted to turn the mac on, it wouldn't! But few hours later I tried again and there I could turn it on by pressing esc + start button.

Should I call for a replacement? (Already had two - 1 with dead pixel and 1 with creaking).

MacBook Air :: 13" 2010 Thin White Lines Across Bottom Half Of Screen?
Just received the new 13" macbook air yesterday and today have noticed some very thin horizontal banding lines across the bottom portion of the screen.

Has anyone else noticed this, or check to see if your one has this problem.

It is quite subtle but it makes the icons on the dock look as if they have a card like effect through them.

Easiest to check if you make your screen wallpaper the dark grey colour.

On this the top part of the screen seems consistent, but at the bottom part there is very thin white horizontal lines. I tried updating the software, but it seems to be the same - looks like a faulty display may have to send back, wondering if it could be fixed with a software update.

The strange thing is black and dark colours do not produce the effect it only shows up on greys or medium contrast colours like blue.

MacBook Air :: 2010 From 13" 2010 And IPad Owner's Point Of View
I have an iPad 32GB WiFi and a MacBook Pro as well so I was trying very hard to justify myself in getting an 11" MBA but ending up talking myself out of it. The 13" MBP is perfect for my uses. It's already lightweight and portable as it is. After playing with the 11" in the Apple store, I was impressed on how light it was. This no doubt blows away any netbook or any notebook in it's weight class in terms of size and performance. However, the MBP's battery life, hard drive space, and processing power OUTWEIGHS the reasons of dumping my 13" MBP for the Air. Also, I have it hooked up to a 21.5 Inch HP monitor at home and it's good enough to use as a main computer at home, and light enough to take on the road.

If I needed to lookup something quickly in bed or around the house, that's where the iPad comes in. If I needed to send a quick e-mail, my HTC Evo is already great at doing that. If I didn't have a 13" MBP or even the iPad, I would have most likely went ahead and purchased the MBA. Just now at this point, spending another $1000+ or getting rid of my MBP doesn't make much sense... yet.

MacBook Air :: White Ring Of Light In The Middle Of Blank White Screen?
I've begun to notice a ring, roughly three inches in diameter, in the middle of my Air, Rev C, Screen. It is a white ring, a couple of millimeters thick, that I can see best behind an all white screen, i.e. a blank page of a word processing document.

How To Speed Up Macbook Air (2010)
Under Lion my 2010 (HDD) Macbook Air has been intolerably slow. It could take 10 minutes to start a program. When connecting to a projector, it could likewise take 10 minutes for it to resize windows during which it was unresponsive. I have been about to hurl it in the trashcan because this computer was just such an impediment to my work. But now I found the solution: don't run Safari. I had long suspected 2G ram combined with a slow HDD was the culprit. I tried to minimize the number of programs open, but let Safari run permanently. But it turns out Safari uses enormeous amounts of memory, and it has a tendency to just grow and grow its memory grab. Now, I quit Safari when I want to run other programs, and after this the computer is merely slow, not intollerably so.

MacBook Air :: How To Know About 2010 13" Hinge?
I just purchased a new 13 inch macbook air with the 1.86 ghz processor , 2 gb of ram and a 128 gb ssd.

It is currently being delivered to me through UPS but I am worried if this new generation is plagued by the infamous "Hinge issue" that the 2008 model had.

Can anyone comment on the hinge structure of the new model and if it will last at least 3 years without hinge problems ?

MacBook Air :: 13" (Late 2010) Observations (Migration, Etc)
Custom ordering took 6 days from order to delivery with expedited delivery. Not bad.

The form factor and styling look great -- and there is a noticeable boost in graphics - the screen looks bright and very clear.

Fast bootup; and seems to run as fast as my Macbook Pro 13" mid 2010. No problems seen there.

Lack of firewire continues to be a problem, but understandable for conserving space. With an Ethernet cable, the transfer time of 200GB of data from a Time Capsule backup took 12 hours of actual transfer time, and one hour of additional "cleaning up" time, whatever that means, and one additional hour of "not sure what it is doing" time. That would have been a few hours with a firewire. Don't start running a migration assistant transfer unless you know you have the time to do it. Or leave it to migrate overnight.

"Instant on" is basically that.

No light on the outside of the MBA to indicate if your book is in sleep or not -- i.e. no blinking white light. No backlight on the keyboard. Not a dealbreaker for me, but it might be for others. Personally, I've never used my MBA's anywhere that a backlit keyboard would be necessary. Your milage may vary.I prefer having the "sleep light" to be sure that the machine is sleeping and not awake in my messenger bag. I understand they changed the mechanics of the sleep function so I guess we don't have to worry about it -- but I do nonetheless.

Entire thing seems very peppy and much much faster than the 2nd generation. I like the stereo sound. WIth the 275 MB ssd drive, I'll be able to get rid of the macbook pro for good.

It fits in all the old MBA slipcases that I have (The incase, the Waterfield, and a Civilian manila sleeve) so no need for a different size there.

MacBook Air :: HDD Failing -- How To Repair
My wife's 1st gen 1.6 MBA's HD is failing, verified by both Smart Reporter and Disk Warrior. It's running 10.5.8. On bootup, it doesn't get past the gearwheel. When I boot off an external drive, the MBA HD icon shows up when I press the option key and later it appears on the desktop. Prior to not being able to boot, it had all kinds of symptoms, including disappearing mailboxes in Mail, back-to-default in many system prefs, slooooooowness, etc.

Can a total amateur like me replace the drive?

MacBook Air :: Are Disk Repair Utilities Necessary
Since my first Mac in the early 90s, I've used various disk utilities such as Norton, Disk Warrior, Tech Tool Pro, and Drive Genius. These utilities have always been useful for squeezing out a little bit of performance and hard drive room, but probably the best use was for a sense of reassurance (real or imagined) that the drive was running efficiently.

Are these utilities really necessary? For example, does it matter that a flash drive is fragmented? Can there be "bad blocks" on a flash drive like there are on disk drives? If so, can they be ignored by the system, or does a bad transistor in a flash chip mean the whole chip is toast? Can the OS's file structure go haywire beyond the ability of Apple's Disk Utility to manage it?

Lots of questions that don't really need to be answered individually unless someone wants to elaborate on the details (which I would find interesting). The essential question is, are disk utilities needed or useful for flash hard drives?

MacBook Pro :: 2009 Glossy Screen Versus 2010 Standard Res Glossy Screen
Is there a difference? Anything at all? I would expect Apple to make the 2010 standard res. screens worse in quality and earn more money since they have the higher res. available. I really like the 2009 glossy screen, but i have to be sure it is exactly the same this year. If they did something like that it's typical Apple.

MacBook Air :: Update - Redesign 2010 - Ultra-portable Computer?
I have been waiting for almost 6 months now for an update to this device so that I can purchase. I have almost purchased other products that I don't really want and that are not as ideal for me as the Air, but I've stuck to being hopeful. Does Apple not want us to purchase their ultra-portable computer? I for one am not going to go buy one of the stale models and then have an updated version released weeks later.. so as with all Apple products I have (and I have a good amount), I buy after a new refresh or spec update, which is usually only a few months apart.. however, it has been a year since the last update to the Air. A year.
