Intel Mac :: Screen Blank On 27" Mid 2010?

Jun 5, 2012

Recently my iMac display goes black in the middle of using it.  Initially I thought it froze up and I had to force it to reboot.  But after this happned a couple of times I realized that I could stil hear the hard drive working and my peripheral lights (keyboard, etc) were still on.  On a hunch I put it to sleep (Option-Cmd-Eject).  After it goes silent I can press a key and the display comes back up and everything is normal (for a while).

It's now been doing this regularly for the last 3 weeks.  Sometimes three or four times a day this occurs. When the screen goes black nothing seems to work except the sleep-wake thing.  I've tried the screen brightness keys too - but that doesn't work either.

My software is up to date (Lion 10.7.4). This is a Mid 2010 iMac 27" with 12GB of RAM and the ATI Radeon HD5750.The regular software that I have running is:

Chrome
Forklift
Light-room 4

Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

MacBook Air :: 2010 13" MPA Screen Flickering & Frozen Screen?

Nov 5, 2010

I've had the new macbook air just two days now. Turned it on this morning, used it for like 5 minutes and the screen just started flickering, and the whole machine just froze on me! Had to do a system reset, but I'm a little concerned after spending over a grand on this macbook! Has anyone else experienced this? I'm actually thinking about returning the machine..

MacBook :: Using Screen Repair?

May 19, 2009

A bit of background:

Back in January I slipped on some ice and regrettably the LCD on my Blackbook did not survive. I have been making due with my computer plugged into a video out (A real pain to do work on) but I really want to get the darn thing fixes. I was really stupid and did not get the Apple Care (which likely would not cover this repair anyway).

Upon taking the laptop to Apple they quoted 800 to replace the unit with a refurb since it was well out of warranty. Everything but the LCD works just fine so I was wondering about getting a replacement screen and doing the repair or sending it out to another company.. My question:

1) What is your opinion on doing this (I cannot replace the whole laptop and I have a 2.16 C2D), is it really worth it? Is this a big repair job?
2) What price should I be looking at. These guys have the screen for $150 but I don't know if they are any good nor do I know of anybody who will do this. Is it something that can be done on my own (i would have a friend assist me). I am not bound to one vendor, but I have never had to do out of warranty repairs on a mac before so I don;t know where to go.
3) Any advice on where I should get the screen at or do business?
4) Am I just wasting my time?

THe reason I ask is that I really cannot afford a new machine right now, but if I can fix the screen like new for around $200 that would be much better. Any advice would be grateful.

MacBook Pro :: Cracked Screen - Repair It?

Jul 3, 2009

I took my MacBook Pro on holiday with me to do some work whilst away, and I have acquired an unwanted crack down the side of my screen.

It doesn't cause any problems with my viewing as the majority of it is offscreen on the black boarder, however whenever I catch a glimpse of it in my periphery it breaks my heart a little bit- no-one wants a huge crack on the thing they love the most.

Shall I get it repaired? If so, how much, where would be best/cheapest?

Software :: Macbook Screen Repair?

May 3, 2009

I attempted to repair a macbook screen for a friend. She spilled coffee near the top of the screen so I figured wiping the inside clean would do it. I was able to disassemble the screen with no problem but had to take out the plastic sheets behind the LCD and clean them. All went well until I had to put them together with the LCD. I think I got them out of order and can't find anywhere that tells me what order they go in. I know the hard plastic one goes up against the back of the LCD and the others I am lost with.

MacBook Air :: Screen Gets Blank - Need To Restart

Dec 21, 2010

Got this mac friday but haven't really played with it before yesterday. My problem is:

1) Yesterday I went for logging in to facebook, but suddenly the screen went green? Had to close the mac down and start it again.
2) After I had turned it on and was on the desktop the screen (with me doing nothing) went white, and I had to do the same again.
3) This morning when I wanted to turn the mac on, it wouldn't! But few hours later I tried again and there I could turn it on by pressing esc + start button.

Should I call for a replacement? (Already had two - 1 with dead pixel and 1 with creaking).

MacBook Pro :: Blank Screen - Hiccup?

Jan 1, 2011

I was using it in my bedroom, it was plugged in. I went to make some food, and upon my return I am greeted by a blank screen, probably just a hiccup right? So I held the power button down expecting it to spring back in to life. But it didn't. It wouldn't turn back on. At all. Luckily, I thought, I have my old 2006 Macbook that I keep as a back up just for times like this. As it hasn't been turned on for a while, the low battery warning comes on, so I plug it in. 10 seconds later, it hibernates. I switch it back on, but it keeps hibernating for no good reason. So I think restarting it will solve the problem. It didn't. It too, now wouldn't turn back on. At all.

In the space of a few minutes, they both completely died. I've tried resetting SMC, PRAM, everything I've found on Apple's support page and forums like this. Nothing has worked. The light on the power cable glows orange when plugged in, so it is still charging, and the battery indicator lights on the side of the MBP work fine. Aside from that, they are both completely lifeless...........

MacBook Pro :: Blank Screen On 2008

Jul 2, 2009

when I turn on my computer there is a blank screen. You can still hear the normal noises coming from the computer like any normal boot-up. But if I let my computer sit for a while without turning it on, it will turn on with weird almost static noises. If I force shut down then try again, I get the normal boot-up noises. I tried the safe boot-up method, holding down the shift button while turning the computer on, but no dice. I actually tried this method on both the good and static noise boot-up.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Blank After Loading Ram

Mar 25, 2012

I'm trying to upgrade to LION to move to iCloud...the folks at the genius bar recommended that I go from 2gb ram to 4. They gave me the website to purchase the memory and told me how to load it. Prior to loading, I shutdown the computer and unplugged it. I then removed the 2 1 gb cards and replaced with 2gb cards. The loading seems to have gone fine, but all I get is a power light on the front of the case and a sound that makes me think it's running....the screen is totallly black though.

I was walking into my friends house the other night with my Macbook Pro in an Incase sleeve and it fell out of my hands and onto the concrete. I assume it landed on the edge of the screen and bent it inward. The screen and everything work properly and the issue is only cosmetic but it's driving me crazy.

I have an appointment at the genius bar tomorrow but would like to know how much Apple would charge for repair beforehand. If anyone has experience with this please chime in.

I have never witnessed anything such as this on a Mac before, so I'm completely at a loss. It's hard to replicate this problem, as it seems to be totally random--sometimes it'll happen when coming back from sleep, but more often, it just happens in the middle of regular tasks. While I'm using the computer, the screen will suddenly go black for several seconds, and I simply have to wait for it to return.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Boot - Sits On Blank Screen

Jan 30, 2009

I'm trying to fix my GF's Macbook Pro. This thing since day 1 has had so many little issues she's replacing it with a Dell. Anyhow, I want to try to fix the computer and I'm very good with computer hardware, just not familiar with troubleshooting Macs. The computer when turned on doesn't make a sound, it just sits at a blank screen with the power LED on the front lit solid. I have tried resetting the PRAM, resetting the SMC, and reseating the memory. I even swapped the memory.

It's the same behavior each time, just sits there, nothing comes on the screen. No noises. It does get quite warm sitting there powered on, though not obscenely hot. I can power it off with the power button as well. I have heard of trying to boot off of the restore CD or something but I feel that won't work and the problem is most likely hardware related. Nothing strange happened before this computer stopped working. It was not dropped, no water, or anything like that.

Specs are the machine is as follows:
15" Macbook Pro 2.2 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB, 128MB VRAM, 120GB 5400 RPM Drive

I don't know how to restart on the macbook (ctrl + alt + del didn't work, using option didn't either) so I just held down the power button for 4 seconds and restarted that way.

MacBook Pro :: Blank White Screen On Boot Up?

May 13, 2012

All of a sudden my 13" MacBook pro (2011) takes a long time to shut down. And on boot up it remains on a blank white screen where all I can do is move the mouse around. It may or may not boot to the desktop. At the moment I'm leaving it on sleep and it performs fine, apps load like normal but I'm afraid to shut it down incase it won't boot up again. The shut down takes so long that I need to hold the power button to shut it down. I've read around that it could be hardware failure but like I said I have it on sleep and it performs fine when I wake it.
