MacBook Air :: Migration Assistant - Won't Find Other Computer On Network

I have a brand new MacBook Air, and I am trying to use the Migration Assistant to transfer data from my old MacBook Pro via wireless network.

Both computers don't get any further than "looking for other computers" and they just sit there for ages looking but don't find anything. Both are connected to the same network.

MacBook Pro :: Migration Assistant Can't Find Computer?
Just brought home a new MacBook Pro, and I'm trying to migrate files and apps from my 24" iMac to it. I first trying restarting the iMac with the letter T pressed to use Firewire, but it never boots up. It only produces a Firewire icon which moves slowly around the screen. Ten minutes can go by, and no boot up.

Then I decided to try launching MIgration Assistant from the iMac and it keeps "looking for other computers" endlessly. I've removed, and reinstalled, the firewire cables several times.

What am I doing wrong?

I hope someone can answer this fairly quickly -- I'm trying to get the Powerbook ready to take to work (with a client) tomorrow.

I am using an 800x800 firewire cable (had to return to store because all I had was 800x400 cable at first.

I have seen Apple Support, I have seen the tips and tricks for Migration Manager. Both computers file share and can see each other on the network, Yet here I am asking for help because none of these places have been helpful. The migration assistant can't find my computer. The new one is a Mini and the other is an iMac. Both have up to date Lion 10.7.4.

MacBook Pro :: Migration Assistant Did Not Transfer Network Or Computer Settings As Expected?
Snow Leopard (10.6.8) became corrupted resulting in not being able to shut down my 1/2007 Intel Core 2 Duo MacBookPro and not being able to download numerous programs and updates. I backed-up my laptop, took it into the Apple Store where they wiped the hard disc clean and reloaded the OS. They suggested I use Migration Assistant to restore my backed up information to my laptop, but ALL of my settings from Desktop, to the Dock, to Finder, to screen savers, to Safari bookmarks, to all of my Mail inboxes, archives and smart email boxes, and to Documents and all of my files and their organization, to iTunes, to Address Book, to Calendar are GONE. Do I need to do some more formal kind of a restore from my back-up drive to recover/restore this information and "get my laptop back" or is it all lost?

MacBook Pro :: Migration Assistant Can't See Old Computer?
I just got a new MBP running Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I want to transfer the contents of my old computer, a Power Book G4 running 10.5.8. I have them connected with a Belkin Firewire 800/800 9 pin to 9 pin cable. When I launch the MA on the MBP, I get to the screen that says to restart the old mac holding down the T key until the Firewire symbol appears. I do that and the MA screen is still "waiting for the other Mac to restart". It doesn't see the old Mac.

MacBook Pro :: Migration Assistant Can't Find The Hard Drive
I've just bought a new MacBook Pro (Lion) as my 6 year old iMac (Snow Leopard) has died. I wanted to restore my data from my iMac, via my Time Machine back-ups which are stored on a WD MyPassport. When using the migration assistant, I've followed the instructions, but the assistant refuses to see the hard drive and all I get is "Looking for Other Computers" and a spinning wheel.

MacBook Air :: Undo Migration With Migration Assistant?
I got a MacBook Air a few months ago and finally got around to migrating data from my MacBook Pro. I am seriously not happy with the results (all I really wanted was to move my iTunes and a limited few apps, and it seems that I got nothing that I wanted). I used a Time Machine backup from an external HD for the migration. Is there any way to undo the migration?

MacBook Pro :: Migration Assistant - Transfer From Broken Computer
I just got a new Macbook Pro (13-Inch) to replace my old Macbook Pro that suffered from a faulty logic board. Fortunately, I've discovered that it is possible to transfer files from an old Macbook to a new Macbook. However, my question is that because my old Macbook Pro suffered from a faulty logic board (and can not currently start up,) is it possible for me to retrieve my files from my old Macbook Pro via the Migration Assistant?

MacBook Pro :: Migration Assistant Freezes - Computer Stop Responding
Just migrating my old MacBook over to my new MacBook Pro w/ Migration Assistant over network. Was going fine, then an error appeared on old MacBook saying something about a Network connection failure, and the other computer stopped responding. A message about 5 minutes later appeared on the MacBook Pro similar to the first message saying the MacBook had stopped responding. I clicked continue and it still appears to be stuck. Shall I wait, will they rework the connection or is that game over for this attempt. If so, what state will the new MacBook Pro be in? Does it cancel everything that has happened up until this point, or will it be in a right old mess? I chose the replace users option in Migration assistant.

MacBook Air :: Using Migration Assistant, Running For 48 Hours And Only 5% Done?
I bought my shiny new Macbook Air on Monday, brought it home and started the migration assistant to migrate my 60GB profile from my Macbook Pro via WiFi.

The initial estimate was that the process would take 96 hours but It has tow been running for 48 hours and is only 5% complete. At this rate the process will take 80 days!

I checked the forums and apparently using wired Ethernet connections to the router will speed things up. Problem is I can't find a cancel button. Does anyone know how to cancel a migration?

Stop Migration Assistant On A Brand New MacBook Air?
My wife just got a brand new MacBook Air last night. She started to set it up and ran the Migration Assistant from her old first-gen MacBook Air.Wirelessly.Suffice to say she still has 162 hours to go and it didn't improve at all overnight. What are my options for stopping the transfer safely without harming either computer and then getting the new one safely up and running? Can I just "pull the plug" (and how do I do that IBM guy here so Macs are greek to me). Will I need to restore the new machine and can I even do that when it was brand new out of the box?

Her old MacBook Air had some issues with printing, Firefox, etc.Should I do a more select file transfer from old to new to avoid transferring corrupted files? Not sure how "deep" the migration assistant goes.

MacBook Air :: Migration And Airport Connection - Don't Migrate Network Setting
I migrated my user account from a MacBook Pro (Time Machine backup on a USB HD) to a MacBook Air. When I started using the MBA the Airport icon in the menu bar was empty and the drop down menu said "Airport not configured". The Network preferences showed an ethernet connection with an airport icon and after choosing the network in the dropdown menu (in Network preferences) it found the base station and connection was fine until the MBA slept. After waking from sleep I had to do the same procedure over again. The same phenomenon occurred on two MBAs - the other is my colleague's with an account migrated from a PBG4.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Keep Getting Kernel Panic Error After TM Restore And Migration Assistant Won't Work
My computer broke down so I had a repaired and the original software was re-installed and it worked perfect. Whenever I restore from Time Machine, I get the kernel panic error. I have to reload the original software and it works perfect again. I tried using Migration Assistant, but it fails every time after 30 minutes of saying 1 minute left to transfer documents. I go in to Time Machine and view my external hard drive and all my stuff is still there, except I noticed my applications are crossed out. At least the non-default ones. That may just be because they're not currently loaded.

What can I do from here? I was using Lion before my computer went down. I'm now using the OSX install DVD. I also have the Snow Leopard, but haven't tried that, if it even makes a difference.

OS X Leopard :: Network Error When Using Migration Assistant?
I am trying to use Migration Assistant to copy the contents of a PowerBook G4 to a new aluminum MacBook. I connected the two laptops to each other directly via an ethernet cable. They recognized each other right away and I put the passcode from the MacBook into the PowerBook. After this step they started spinning away saying "preparing data." After about 15 minutes the MacBook came back with an error message saying there was a problem with the network and it could not access the data. I proceeded to try the same thing only connecting the computers through a netgear router via ethernet and experienced the exact same problem. I decided to try connecting the computers via wifi to an airport express, same problem. Finally I connected the computers through a computer to computer airport connection and had the same problem.

I decided to try it with another computer as the donor, and used a white MacBook. I encountered the exact same problem.

Finally just for kicks I tried migrating the PowerBook to the white MacBook. Same Problem.

I am completely at a loss. I called apple care and they said they had never heard of this problem and could offer me no solutions.

Has anyone seen this problem; does anyone know what could be wrong?

(as a reminder the new MacBooks don't have firewire, so that is not an option)

I have done all updates after installation, and repaired permissions. When trying to use Migration Assistant, I keep getting an error which says: "There might be a problam with your network. The other Mac is not responding. Make sure that all of your network devices are connected and turned on. Also, make sure that your Ethernet cables are still connected properly to your computer and to the network, or if usign AirPort, that the base station is in range and turned on." OS X Leopard :: Migration Assistant Cannot Find TC Backup Sparsebundle
I just got my iBook G4 back from the shop, after having a new hard drive put in to replace one that just gave up the ghost. Before that drive died, I did a complete and successful backup via Time Machine to a Time Capsule drive. The shop performed a fresh install and complete update of Leopard, and I've run Software Update a few times to make sure my system is as current now as it was when I performed the last backup. Now I am attempting to migrate all of my data back to the computer and here's where the trouble begins.

The backups are located in a partition on my Time Capsule drive. One partition is for general storage, has a password, but no particular user name (call this partition A); the other partition has a specific user name, a different password, and contains only my backups (call it partition B). Migration Assistant sees my time capsule; asks me to log into it, which I do using the login info for "partition B"; but only "partition A" shows up under the list of available volumes, and it says that "0 time machine backups were found."

I have tried:
Entering the login information for "partition A," but this was not accepted
Entering the user name and password for the user account which is backed up on "partition B", but this was not accepted either
Making sure that the name of the user account I had to create in order to perform the migration is different from the name of the account I'm trying to restore, because I read somewhere that this caused problems.

OS X :: Migration Assistant Will Not Recognize Old Computer?
I have recently purchased a 24" intel iMac (latest revision) running Mac OSX 10.5.6. I tried to transfer the user account from an older computer upon initial startup using the built-in migration feature, but it failed and reported that "there are no versions of mac os x available on your old mac," which is obviously not the case, as I am trying to transfer from an old white PowerPC iMac (with the hemisphere swivel base) running Mac OSX 10.4.11. All the correct procedures were followed using a firewire 400 to 800 cable.

I then found somewhere that it is wise to try to create an account on the new computer and then try to use migration assistant to transfer the account. I tried this several times, and every time the new computer did not recognize the older mac, and just left it searching (all the correct procedures, such as holding down the T key during restart on the old computer, were followed. The old computer has the firewire symbol floating around on the screen as it should).

I also tried the network option, where the new computer gives a number to type into the old computer, thereby linking the computers. This also was unsuccessful and just reported that a network error occurred.

On one of my latest firewire attempts I was given a message on the new computer that stated "Your old mac might not be able to connect to this one using Firewire" What?

Does this mean I'm screwed? How do I transfer my old account to my new computer? Please let me know if you need additional information on the situation.

OS X Leopard :: Migration Assistant Cannot Find Time Machine Backups?
I just bought a new 13" Macbook Pro 2.53 GHz last night to replace my current 13" white Macbook. I've kept Time Machine backups on the white MB for well over a year on an external 500GB USB drive, so I figured I'd use migration assistant to move all my data over. Well, I plugged in my external HD to my new computer, it recognized the disk, and asked if I wanted to use it as my time machine backup disk for the computer: I said no, for the time being. Then I went to migration assistant, opted to restore from my backups.... but when I got to selecting from where, it gave me no options, just a totally blank selection screen. I figured I must have screwed up, so I tried rebooting, then making the external HD my backup location, all to no avail. The only thing I can think of that's messing it up is the fact that I have probably 50GB of virtual machines and other things on the HD in a separate folder from my backups.
