MacBook Air :: Finding Compatible External DVD / CD Drives?

I'm after buying an external drive and was hoping we could put together a list of compatible drives as I've read on other forums that not all are compatible.

Please no links as they tend to expire but rather just list the make and model of the drives.

MacBook Air
Mac OS X (10.6.6)
13" 4GB 128GB SSD

MacBook Air :: Compatible USB Thumb Drives
I'm about to purchase a flash thumb drive for my MBA, but before doing so would like to see what brands have been confirmed to actually fit in the MBA's slot. Could people chime in with a list of thumb drives they have actually tested on the MBA. To keep the list manageable, let's say anything 4GB or better.

Mac Pro :: Physically Compatible DVD Drives
I'm a new owner of a 2010 Mac Pro. My intention is to add a second DVD drive for use with a CD ripper to copy all my CDs to iTunes. However, I added a Sony DVD-ROM 1615S from an old PC, but even after removing the tray's frontage (that section that can be removed from the front of the actual tray, not the bezel) to reduce the height, I found it would not pass through the Mac Pro's opening. So, how can I make sure I'm buying a drive whose tray can be modified to fit through a Mac Pro's slots?

IMac Intel :: Looking For Compatible External BD Drives?
I recently installed Toast 10 to allow burning of HD discs. Up to now I burned mainly on single and dual sided DVD's but some of my HD movies are too large to fit DVD's. That's the reason why I need to burn on Blu-Ray discs. Unfortunately all external BD drives are claimed NOT to be MAC compatible. Does anyone have some experience with external BD drives?

Hardware :: Seagate External Hard Drives Mac Compatible?
My local Mediamarket (in Germany) has them on offer and I was gonna buy my girlfriend one to back up her photo collection. But the sales assistant told me they are not compatible with Macs. Given that Mediamarket staff are renowned for being clueless, I was hoping somebody could elaborate on potential compatibility issues? The box does state FOR PC on the front, and only lists Windows OS in the system requirements but the Seagate website contradicts this and says Mac OSX 4.8 upwards will work.

MacBook :: No External DVD Drives Will Mount?
I have tried a Samsung Drive and an ASUS slim drive (that worked twice, then stopped working). They do show up in the Disk Utility, but not on the desktop. Disc Utility states that burning is not supported, even though I was able to burn two discs with the ASUS before it stopped as well. I had my keyboard replaced around the same time as the issue starting, it is possible that they could they have messed with something by accident. The tech did also forget to put a screw in above the DVD Drive. I also will note the internal drive is a Combo Drive, not a superdrive.

MacBook Air :: Booting From External Drives - MBA 2012?
I have a brand new 13" MBA which I'm working on building an image to use for deployment using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.5. For whatever reason, I can't boot the new 2012 MBA from an external LaCie FW800 or Thunderbolt 1TB Little Big Disk that is running either 10.7.2 or 10.7.4. As soon as I select the drive to boot from when holding the Options key or from selecting the partition from Startup Disk in System Preferences, I get the do not enter icon(circle with the diagonal slash). I tried both plugged in through a Cinema Display and plugging the Thunderbolt drive directly to the laptop. I confirmed both LaCie drives boot properly on an iMac and the last gen MBP/MBA.

MacBook Air :: Finding An External Battery For The Air?
I'm trying to figure out why my MacBook Air only works for 30-60 minutes on a full charge (with bluetooth off and only surfing the internet). I calibrate the battery every time I use it because it drains to nothing, shuts off, then I let it stay that way over night, charge it fully and start using it again.

What should the Full charge capacity be in the System Profiler? Mine shows 2668, also says the battery health is fair and It has a cycle count of 44. Is this normal? Going on a trip this week and I don't think my laptop will entertain me for even 1/8th of flight!

Also, anyone know where I can find an external battery for the Air?

Is there any simple way of maintaining on my boot drive a searchable catalog of what is on what drive? I dont want to have to constantly plug in nine drives when I am trying to find some old fcp file or media. Like is there any way to have spotlight index all the drives and keep a copy of the index on the main machine to search? Or some little third party shareware gizmo that does this?

So far, I've avoided getting the superdrive by using the remote disk option, but I tend to burn CDs and data onto DVDs from time to time. Is there a work around for doing that without the superdrive or are there no other options?

I am using my rev.2 air, 1.86 Mhz prosessor, 120 GB HDD, leopard 10.5.7 with a Samsung writemaster external dvd-writer, but I am having problems booting from it.

When I try to boot (pressing option) I can choose the disc and the applesymbol will appear, but the spinning wheel below does not, and the screen just stay the same until I cut the power.

I have tried to boot both the original OS X-disc and Windows 7 (both through boot camp and normal restart) with the same result.
