MacBook Air :: File Recovery Using DiskWarrior?

When I launch the OS, I get the Apple logo on a white screen with a grey progress bar at the bottom (the OS attempting to fix the drive) and then the machine hangs.

I'm able to use my Superdrive to access Disk Utilities from the MAC OS X DVD. The utilities tells me that I have "Invalid Sibling Link" and that it cannot repair the drive.

Using CMD-S I'm able to enter single user mode and try to fix using fsck (-yf and -r). Using those I get errors indicating other problems, including "invalid node structure" and DISK FULL ERROR (although I have 6 GB free according to other stats).

MacBook Air :: Data Recovery From 80 GB Hdd
a few days ago I used my MBA as usual and suddently Mail kept saying that there was some problem and then the whole computer was very slow all of a sudden. So I rebooted it. Bad idea. It would not boot anymore. The harddrive made some clicking noises and I couldn't even get it to boot in single user mode. I booted from DVD and ran disk utility a few times which kept saying it could not repair the drive.

MacBook Air :: Custom OS X Install With Recovery Disc?
I was installing a retail version of OS X the other day on a Dell Mini 9 and I realized you could customize the install by removing printer drivers and languages that you didn't want... saving about 8+ GB or so of space. I was wondering if the recovery disc that comes with our Air also allows us to customize what options we can include, assuming I do a fresh install.

MacBook Air :: Cannot Connect To Wireless From Internet Recovery
Have 2011 13" MacBook Air.  I erased my hard drive using cmd-r at startup to enter disk utility.  When I restarted, Internet Recovery automatically started to try and connect to my wireless.  It never asked for a password.  It never connected.  Error "-2002F".  Tried it again, this time selecting a new network, entering my network name and password.  Still will not connect.  Have repeated many times.  Looked at my access logs on router, it is not connecting.

Trying to boot up my MBP 10.6.8 with an updated DiskWarrior disk. Holding down "c" got me nowhere. Holding down "options" gets me to the screen showing the Mac HD and DiskWarrior DVD(which I just made, updated from the older DW 4.0). After choosing the DW, the computer just sits there. Is there a known problem with late-model MB Pros and DiskWarrior?

OS X Leopard :: How To Do File Recovery
I have 40gb or so worth of music, with the files in various states of locked or non locked due to an accident earlier in the year! Anyway, I 'moved' my music folder to the external drive holding down the cmd key I think, so it was moved, not copied, then at the end it told me I didn't have the correct permissions, so I thought everything was copied but it just couldn't delete the locked files on the original disk. Upon checking the new location, there were only 23gbs copied over, from the original 40 gbs, and then I checked the original location and I think at this point there were still 40gbs of original music. So I set it just to copy again, and after this happened it still told me it didn't have enough permissions, but I checked both folders and they both read 23gbs - meaning 17gbs of music had disappeared?

OS X :: HFS File / Directory Recovery
I accidentally deleted all of the files on a friend's portable drive, when using terminal to try to delete a very large folder (the Trash Can was not working it was so large)--since the files/folders were very recently deleted I am looking into data recovery software to get the files back. The problem is that the HFS file system seems to be designed in such a way that once a folder/file is deleted, it is very difficult to recover it's name even if its data can be recovered, so most data recovery programs (such as FileSalvage) will recover only known file types and give them a a number (such as 0004.jpg). Does anyone know of any Mac/HFS recovery software that has found a way around this particular issue and can recover data with the folder structure/file names intact?

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Boot From DiskWarrior CD While Pressing C On Starup
I am helping a friend maintain her 2008 MacBook Pro (10.5.8). Have safe-booted several times, and repaired permissions. Since she is having minor issues, I brought over my Disk Warrior v. 4.1 (CD rev. 42) which has done wonders for other Leopard Macs. Her MacBook Pro just refuses to boot from the Disk Warrior CD when I hold down the "c" key while re-starting. It starts as usual from its OS. This has never happened to me before. So I cannot use Disk Warrior on her comp, as far as I know. Whenever I have used this Disk Warrior CD on mine and other 10.5.8 computers, and booted holding down "c" key, everything goes swimmingly. Could it be her drive, her logic board, my not re-setting PRAM on her computer? Or a total mystery?

OS X :: Finding Windows Works File Recovery?
While my eMac is in the shop (another long story I've told elsewhere here), I am using my work PC. I was working on a short story I had not yet saved in Microsoft Works Word Processor when it said it became unresponsive and had to close. I have been searching all over the computer for traces of this unsaved file.

Under C:/Windows/Prefetch there are files from around the time I lost the document and they are "PF" files. There is even one called WKSWP.EXE-25E36596 , which gives me hope it might be related to the file I was working on. When I open it in Notepad I get gobbly goop.

MacBook Pro :: Auto-recovery Microsoft Word 2008 - No Auto-recovery Files?
I am trying to recovery a file created in Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. The file was lost after a power outage. In an attempt to recover the file, my first thought was to check for the file in the Microsoft AutoRecovery 2008 folder within my hardrive. However, the folder only contains a total of four files! Why? If my Microsoft Word is set up to auto save a document every 10 minutes...then how is it possible the folder could only contain 4 files? I am at a loss of how else to recover this file. I am currently attempting to do so with a free trial of Data Recovery Software to see if the file I lost even still exists, with no success so far.

OS X :: How To Copy Data Using Diskwarrior?
An HFSJ mac HD crashed from another mac. I connected it externally, via USB, to a working macbook pro and installed diskwarrior on the working macbook pro's hard drive.

I started diskwarrior from the OS (I didn't boot using the disc) and it ran for a few days, trying to rebuild the directory for the crashed mac HD.

It concluded that the crashed mac HD was mechanically failing and could not replace the original directory with the rebuilt directory and, therefore, it could not display an original and preview pane, side-by-side.

It was, however, able to offer just the preview of the rebuilt directory and advised that I copy the data off to another storage device, which I am attempting to do now.

The problem is the preview directory is locked and read-only.

When I attempt to copy files over to another storage device, OS X, with respect to the preview directory, indicates that "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.

I clicked on get info for the preview directory and the permissions are grayed out. There is a checkmark for the "Ignore ownership of this volume" checkbox. For my username, it says read and write, and I am the sole user on this machine.

it also has "staff" and "everyone" as usernames, where "staff" is read & write and "everyone" is read only. The lock is locked and, like the rest of this section, grayed out and cannot be changed.

I realize that DiskWarrior automatically locks the preview of the rebuilt directory. But how am I supposed to copy files to a different storage device if I can't change permissions?

Edit: I should mention it is DiskWarrior 4.2 and Mac OS X 10.5.8. The crashed Mac HD I am unsure, but I found a user guide on it for Tiger. So, it is probably 10.4.x

OS X :: Diskwarrior Error-9997?
I got this error from Diskwarrior and am wondering what the deal is?
Here are the details:

My 80GB hard drive crashed and burned on my Macbook Pro Dual 1.83 running 10.5.8. I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the drive before it went totally kaput and then cloned it back onto a new drive that I installed into the MBP.

Upon running Diskwarrior 3.3 on the new clone in the MBP to look at permissions, I got error -9997. Do you know what that error indicates?

Googling it tells me that, if you get that error in 10.3 or 10.4 via Disk Utility (not DW) then you are missing a basesystem.pkg file. See:
[URL]

Looking back on the original clone, this file doesn't exist where the KB thread says it should so I'm assuming 10.5.8 doesn't use the same file in the same place.

I ran disk utility on the drive to look at permissions and other than a few corrected permissions, it didn't say there were any other errors.

So, which do I trus, disk utility or DW? Is this just a disconnect between the old DW 3.3 and 10.5.8 (I mean the old DW not reading 10.5 correctly for some reason) ?

Or do I need to do a clean install from the systems disk (something I really don't want to do if possible)?
