After try to get it out of sleep mode the screen stayed black
Tryed to turn it on several times (magsafe or batery)
Reset the PRAM
Reset the SMC
Tryed Safe Mode
Tryed everything I've found about it but the screen is still black. The mac is on, can hear the fan and the lion start cause when I press a key I can hear a "bump"
Is that a know issue? Does apple offer an extra warranty period on this issue because it seems to be a comon issue on this machine.
So I got a new Late 08 MBP 2.8 earlier this week. Everything has been great except that occasionally (once or twice an hour) my laptop screen will go black for about 200-300ms and then come back. Often only the top 1/2 or top 3/4 of the screen will go black. I was worried it was the LCD, but today I switched over to the 9600gt for the first time and the problem seems to have gone away. I generally code all day and havent been doing anything intense when the flickers happen, the CPU/GPU temps are also low.
I have an external monitor hooked up. Ive only noticed the problem when the external monitor was hooked up but then again 90% of the time I use the computer it has the external plugged in.
Also does anyone know if the 9400m's 256mb of memory is shared with the main RAM, ie if I am running on the 9400 do I only have access to about 3.74 gigs of ram?
My MacBook Pro 15 inch mid 2010 model i7 processor is having problems when I close the lid and the computer goes to sleep. Heres how my problem is occouring. I close my macbook pro lid. After waiting about 10 min (my macbook sleep time) I lift the lid. Once I do this i see the screen.... for about 2 seconds and it suddenly goes black. I fix it by turning my brightness down 1 bar then turning it back up 1 bar. I dont remeber this happening on snow leopard it seems to be a lion issue and a lot of other users are having it.

It was just an accidental liquid spill, but however my macbook pro has been acting up before all this mishap with the graphics. I thought is was just nothing so I didn't care to bring it to an apple store but when I had to bring it and check it out using the Nvidia video test it presumed a failed video card. The genuius said it will take 2 weeks to be fix until several days later I recieved a call saying it can not be fix due to a foreseen amount of liquid damage. I've spilt other liquid items but wiped it off the keyboard quickly and it still worked. I'm using my MBP right now with an external monitor, it still works fine but with the issue of the screen being pitch black.
My November 2011 17" MacBook Proi has on several occasions gone to a black screen, which requires hard shutdown and re-boot. It happens in two ways: coming out of sleep, the screen appears for a second and then goes black, and sometimes when jjust using the Mac.
It comes back on after re-boot with no apparent problems but seems to be occuring more frequently, so I need to get this fixed.
I'm planning to get a 13' refurbished MBA (Late 2010). Getting the stock model wouldn't be an issue, but if i wanted one with a 4GB RAM, is it possible to get one? SInce the RAM is soldered onto the board and upgrade is not an option.
I'm so worried. I turned off my MBP as usual yesterday and when I tried to turned it on today I get a white screen with the Apple Sign and a loading bar which never ends up loading. Nothing like this has ever happened and I haven't made any hardware or software modifications on my MBP. I thought the days of my computer crashing were behind once I switched to Apple. Ugh I don't/can't afford to lose all my files. I also tried booting from the OS X disk and trying to repair the disk but it tells me it can't be done.
I returned from a trip during which I used my MacBook Air (Late 2010) constantly. Upon leaving the hotel I closed the computer and put it into my carrier and did not open it until arriving at home later that day. There was moisture on the keyboard and screen at the corresponding position in an area about the size of a 50¢ piece, I cleaned that up and turned the machine on and it booted up and then created. Several times it would turn off and on a few times without any input from me. At times it will boot up like all is well but with any keystroke it crashes to a black screen. If I had to guess, I'd say the HD is toast. It was replaced under warranty once already. The moisture is a complete mystery.
My Macbook pro's keyboard is acting abnormal. They are not as bright as they should be, some are brighter than the others.Already tried to resetting the SMC setting. No luck at all.
I have a late 2010 Macbook Air, 13 inch, with the 126 gb hard drive. I was curious if there was a way to upgrade the hard drive at all. I know this isn't "officially" suported, but I've seen some compines online that claim to do it.
I haven't priced out the SSD drives or anything, so I'm not even sure if it's cost effective to upgrade.
I don't know about everyone else, but I literally cannot wait to sink some gaming hours into this wonderful machine that up until recently I did not thing would game at all!
Although my Air is still on a conveyor belt somewhere with cool lasers and stuff I know there are some people out there with there machines in there hands ready to do some showing off , well here is where you can do it!
I will keep an updated list of games people have requested to see benchmarked here in this first post. All you have to do is pick a game (preferably one you already own) and benchmark it! You can add your benchmark to this thread and again i will direct link to your benchmark in this first post. Useful and awesome eh? Games can be mac or boot camp just so long as you let us know which you are trying out! I'll get us started on a list but request away.
Games awaiting benchmark:
- World of Warcraft - Dragon Age - Mass Effect 2 - Half Life 2 - Left 4 Dead 2 - Team Fortress 2 - Crysis - GTA IV
Benchmarked Games
- Call Of Duty 4 - OSX - Thanks to theunits3 - Starcraft 2 - OSX - Thanks to theunits3
I'm trying to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my MacBook Air 11" (Late 2010 model) via Boot Camp assistant. I've hacked the Info.plist of the Boot Camp Assistant to allow it to create a bootable USB installer drive. After successfully creating the USB, the laptop proceeds to reboot itself but it never loads up the Windows installer. However, if I restart it while holding Option, and selecting EFI boot, the installer loads up. However, once it loads, I cannot install Windows 8 Consumer Preview to the Boot Camp partition because of this error: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks. Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. WIndows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS. Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

Is this hard drive compatible with the new 2010 13" MacBook Pro? [URl] I plan on upgrading the stock 250GB hard drive in the base model 13" (2010 model).
Since I use my machine a lot for photo work, this new feature on the refresh was nice. Question is does anyone know if it's easy to swap the card reader out of the 2009's for the new SDHC reader?
i am contemplating buying a late 2008 mbp air i found for $800 on CL. it has the 1.86 ghz 2gig ram and an 128 gb ssd. would that be comparable to the new 2010 version? i know the new one will edge it out, but by how much? i do a lot of art using flash, illustrator, and ps but just want to use this machine occasionally when i travel, ill have another machine for the heavy lifting if needed be. is that a good deal? or should i just wait and get the 2010 version which is double that?
So last December my laptop got smashed and everything works except for the backlit screen. In fact I can still use this laptop it is just extremely hard since the screen does not light up. The person that smashed it ended up buying me a new laptop so I have this beat up (and I mean the shell is destroyed) laptop with quite a lot of functioning parts.
Now a few weeks ago my girlfriends Grandad spilled a beer on his brand new 2010 Macbook. The logic board is shot so it is almost cheaper for him to buy a brand new laptop.
Would it be possible for me to take the logic board out of my 2008 Black Macbook and put it into his 2010 White Macbook?
This is an odd, intermittent problem that started about a month or two after purchasing my fall 2011 MBP 15 (i7 2.5, 16GB RAM). This problem started, went away on its own, and now it's back after about two months of being trouble free. When I close my computer, it doesn't go to sleep. The slit light on the right front of the computer does not go into its slow flash mode; however, it does light up solid, and theng it stays lit. When I open the lid, the computer wakes up immediately (it was never "sleeping" to begin with), but then after a second or two the screen fades to black. The screen can be brought back to life by pressing either of the brightness buttons on the keyboard.I took it to the Genius Bar, and of course I couldn't replicate the problem for them. When I got back home, I decided to test the computer plugged in, and that's when the problem came back.I don't know why it went away previously. So, in summary: The issue only occurs when the computer is plugged in.The sleep problem existed before I installed 3rd party RAM and Parallels 7, and they exist now after I have installed the RAM and new software.I use a wireless mouse, and the little dongle has no effect on the sleep issue - the computer will not sleep (when plugged in) either with or without the dongle in a USB port. The battery charges just fine. All of my software is up-to-date, and I'm running OS X 10.7.3I have checked for the Flashfake malware, and I do not have it.I am running Sophos Anti-virus; I have done a scan, and have found no threats. They flashed my PRAM and ran some tests at the Apple Store and everything passed.
I've had the new macbook air just two days now. Turned it on this morning, used it for like 5 minutes and the screen just started flickering, and the whole machine just froze on me! Had to do a system reset, but I'm a little concerned after spending over a grand on this macbook! Has anyone else experienced this? I'm actually thinking about returning the machine..
Playing some games and even apps from the app store, my Macbook Pro 13" Late 2011 gets these "black spots" in the games themselves. I never had this problem on my other Macbook Pro, released 2010 with Snow Leopard. Would I be able to fix this myself or is it something the game's developers need to look into? Is it my graphics card?
My iMac 27 late 2010 does not shut down when shut down in the normal way. I have to shut down with the push button. I have tried disconnecting all the usb connected hardware still no use. Can any body help.I have OS Lion 10.7.3?
The words on webpages jumble up on top of each other and pictures are chopped up. I literally have to take my track pad and scroll up and down vigorously for several seconds and literally shake everything back into place.
I have a late 2007 Apple MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.2 13" (Black-SR), and I was wondering if you could provide me with some help if "Komputerbay 4GB DDR2 SODIMM (200 pin) 667Mhz PC2 5400 / PC2 5300 CL 5.0" is compatible with my macbook? I have read some articles around this area and have seen some people managed to fit 6GB in their Macbooks. The reason I want to upgrade is because I think my laptop will fly away one day from me, it gets really hot and I think if I break an egg and placed it on top of macbook it will get cooked in less than 5 minutes !!
I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?
