Mac Mini :: Monitor Flashes Static Image

I am running two monitors and the #2 monitor connected via its DVI-D port from the mini dv port is flashing/blinking with brief pulses of pixelated bars. I would best describe them as what you seen when you run a TechTool video test...lots of varied colored pixels. The monitor is a Acer X223W set to 1680x1050, 60 hertz and colors set to millions.

Every time I wake up my Mac Pro, the monitor flashes 2-3 times before it is fully on. Quite annoying. Any idea what it might be? I have the latest Mac Pro 2.66 Quad (got a referub about a month ago) and LaCie 526 (same as NEC 2690). Basic video card, DVI connection.

Mac Mini :: DVI Colored Static And KVM
I manage 50 odd Mac's at work and have a new 09 MacMini. I have it connected via the Mini-DVI to DVI connector to a Rextron DAG12 DVI-I / USB KVM switch. I have been using the KVM for a year or 2 with a PowerMac G4 machine with no problems. When I connect the MacMini all I get is multicoloured static / a snowstorm (as described elsewhere) for about 3 seconds, then I see the actual screen for about 1 second and this repeats over and over making it unusable. I tried various resolutions / refresh rates and it made no difference. If I unplug and re-plug the DVI adaptor about 5 times it eventually stops doing this and I just get the screen as it should be. I then used it all day, switching between my mac and PC and left it on over the weekend and it was fine on Monday.

I discovered restarting the machine brings me back to the static mess (after the grey apple screens). As does opening iTunes or Quicktime. It appears to be related to video rendering. I also tested it on a new MacBook with the 9400 Nvidia chipset and get the static. I tried another 09 Mini and same problem. Tried another Mini-DVI adaptor and same problem. Tried both DVI-I and DVI-D cables from the switch to Mac. I tried an older MacBook with the Intel X3100(?) chipset with the same DVI adaptor and it works fine. As did an old 1.83Ghz Intel based graphics MacMini. Using the screen without the KVM seems to work OK but is no use to me. The fact that I can get it working for days as long as I don't restart or open iTunes / Quicktime seems to suggest it's something driver / software related to the Nvidia 9400 chipset on the Mac. HDCP? I will try and get a mini-displayport to dvi connector to test that.

Mac Mini :: Speaker Static Possibly From Netgear Powerline Adapter?
First, I am a new Mac user, and I just got a Mac Mini which accesses the internet and an NAS through a Netgear powerline adapter. I noticed that when I am transferring files to/from the NAS the speakers emit a static noise. There is also a brief bit of static when I access the internet but it's barely noticable. I swapped speakers and got the same results. The old Dell computer I replaced didn't have this problem. Incidentally, the problem exists on both the Mac and boot camp/Windows partitions.

MacBook Pro :: External Speaker Static With Monitor
So my external monitors have almost always given me static. it's not that noticible when something is playing, but sitting idle, i get major static coming through the powered speakers. Last night i disconneded my external monitor (samsung 19" Monitor, not a TV) and the hissing stopped. I've seen a few posts about static with TV's, HD out, but nothing on the external monitors. I can even take the cable and just put it close to the video out and the static kicks in. I've got all my power running through a small ups, but apparently the monitor is the problem. any ideas? everything is grounded.

In prefs, its easy to change the background color, so there must be some easy way of changing the background image that im totally missing.

Mac Mini :: Good High Resolution LCD Monitor Compatible With 2010 Mini Server?
The old Mini worked fine with my Westinghouse 24" LCD monitor (HDMI input -connected to Mini via DVI->HDMI cable). The new Mini Server 2010 has HDMI out, so I used a straight-through HDMI cable. The display looks terrible! All of the fonts appear to have a 'shadow' next to them - almost like an old analog VGA with 'interference'.Thinking it could be the cable, I went back to my old Mini's DVI->HDMI cable (and used the new Mini's HDMI->DVI adapter to connect to it). Same results. The Westinghouse monitor's native resolution is 1920x1200. The Mac says that it's configured for 1920x1200.

Mac Mini :: Newbie Seeking Mini & Monitor
I have always wanted a mac and for the most part it has been money in past years that have kept me away. Aside from tutorials and playing around a few times at my local BestBuy I know very little about using them (or any computer for that matter). Between this forum, available books, and ease of use I figure it'll all work out. I do have a couple of specific questions and would greatly appreciate some advice. For me I have to go mini because I have an eye disease, and some other eye related issues that make me extremely sensitive to the LED backlit glossy displays that the imac and macbooks use. Even when dimmed. So I have no choice if I am to own a mac now, it's mac mini or nothing.

MacBook :: Can't Make Monitor On Mini Display Port Primary Monitor?
I have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.

I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.

Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?

Mac Mini :: Monitor Won't Work Via Mini-dvi To Dvi Adapter?
It's a brand spanking new mac mini. I attached a 5 year old lcd monitor (always used before as VGA) using the mini-dvi to dvi adapter. I am using the monitor's dvi connector. The monitor resolution is 1280x1024.

The monitor does not work when using the mini-dvi to dvi adapter. If I remove the mini-dvi adapter and use a mini displayport to dvi adapter, it works just fine. I can keep both adapters plugged in and plug the cable into one or the other. It always works instantly when attached to the minidisplay port and doesn't work if I switch to the mini-dvi port.

I've tried the display with mini-dvi adapter on my macbook too. On the laptop, it acts like there are two screens attached, but there is no action on the external display.

As a further test, I attached the mac mini to the TV via a mini-dvi to hdmi adapter. The mini-dvi port on the mini works fine, as does the port on the laptop. The monitor works fine via minidisplay, but not mini-dvi.

Naturally, I concluded that the mini-dvi adapter was faulty. A second adapter came today, and nothing has changed. Could I have received two Apple mini-dvi adapters in a row with problems? Is there something about the monitor that doesn't like the mini-dvi port? It seems like it wouldn't like the minidisplay port either, but that one is fine.

If thats the case, could I hook up one monitor (HDTV) through an hdmi cable and the other monitor (HDTV) through a VGA cable? or what would be the best way (image quality) to split the image?

Given the case that I can hook up 2 monitors, how do I split the image? How do i not end up with two exact same images?

Power Mac G5 :: LCD Monitor Image Slightly Blurry And Shifting By One Pixel On Mouse Move
I have a Dual 2GHz PowerPC with the stock video card (ATI Radeon 9600 Pro) and have had a Dell 2405FPW monitor connected to it via DVI cable and it has worked flawlessly for a couple of years... until this week.

Now the image seems to be "off" by about one or two pixels. Just a bit blurry here and there and when I move the mouse across the screen, the entire screen image seems to shift a little bit.

I've tried power cycling, re-connecting the cable, unplugging everything, resetting the monitor settings in the control panel, factory-reset of the LCD settings..

Mac Mini :: Mac Mini With Hitachi TV As Monitor
I am a very inexperienced user of Macs, this Mini being my first (therefore bear with me!). The Mini has been used fine via DVI to a Panasonic TV for some time and is running OS X 10.5.8.

I have decided to try and integrate it instead into my home theatre set up elsewhere in the house. The plan is to have it running through the DVI setting into the TV via an Amp.

I know the Mini works fine with the TV when going direct into the TV using a VGA cable. However when I connect using the DVI cable I can see the Apple boot up screen, followed by a short blue screen, then the mouse cursor appears briefly. Then very rapidly the TV cuts out and i get the message that I am using an erroneous frequency.

I can go in to Safe Mode using the DVI cable fine. When I do so it says it is using 1024x768 60Hz (NTSC) Millions, Overscan is ticked.

If i use the VGA cable to set up as the above display settings, reboot, but swap over to DVI I get the same problem described above.

I notice when I am in VGA mode I don't have the option to specify NTSC or any overscan setting. So perhaps i dont understand something here.

My only guess is that the settings I am making in VGA mode are being ignored as soon as i plug in on DVI mode. And that there is an autodetect problem when using DVI mode. That said, I haven't the first clue how to go about fixing it!

If it's relevant the TV is an Hitachi 42PD5000 and has a good number of different supported resolutions and frequencies.

Mac Mini :: IPad As A Monitor For "headless" Mini?
With the announcement of the new Mini's, I'm considering selling my MBP and ATV and replacing them with a new Mini and iPad.

My wife already has an iPad so it would be great to solely control the Mini with our iPads but do you new a keyboard and mouse for initial installation or at any point after? It really would be a waste of money to have to buy them just to get the thing running.

Is there an app out there that can act a full BT keyboard if need be? Rowmote looks pretty sweet for day-to-day use.

That said, I don't think the Mini would get much use, the iPads would be our main net/mail/cal/etc companions, the Mini would simply be the mothership, holding all our music, videos, etc. I still need a full computer for all my photo and home movie editing, otherwise I'd consider a beaten up old powerbook or iBook.

Also, what would be the advantage of getting OSX Server? If it helps, we have no other computers in the house, only 2 iPhones and 2 iPads (potentially).

Mac Mini :: Which HDTV To Use As Monitor And TV
I have a Mac Mini that I use as a HTPC with an *old* 30" CRT TV. I want to slightly repurpose the machine so that I can use it for both work and play. At first I was thinking about a 30" monitor and a TV tuner, but my 2007 Mini can't drive it at full resolution.

Now I'm thinking about a a 1080P HDTV, but I'm not sure what would be a good size if I want to use it as both a monitor (sitting relatively close) and a TV. I use a 30" Apple ACD at work and it is *plenty* big enough for my work needs, but I know the resolution of an HDTV is much lower. Any suggestions about what size is a good compromise to function as both a TV and a PC? Also, any specific model or brand recommendations? I'm new to HDTVs...
