View 2 RepliesI was upgrading rame in my 2011 mac mini and removed the first module without incident but upon removing the second module the clip on the left broke and upon trying to reseat the 2 new ram modules so I could at least boot my mac the lower one is loose (which I expected but upon inserting the top one the clips did not grip it and not they are both stuck loosely in the mac mini which will not boot.
After having installed rame in a PC laptop and my mac ro I have had 2 successful ram upgrades so was not impressed to find that the ram upgrade process in the mini has some really bad clips.
So now what do I do and to complicate things even further there is some stuff on the mini I need.
I'm not too technically savvy when it comes to computers. I do amateur video editing with Final Cut Pro. I purchased a Mac Mini (2.0ghz, 1GB RAM, base model) and it's taking forever to render my 1.8gb clip. I think total render time with some music is about 1.5 hours as opposed to my old computer (a 2.4ghz penryn mbp, 2gb ram) which would do it in maybe 10 minutes I'd assume. My question to you all is, is my unit defective? Will upping the ram increase the clock speed or am I way in over my head purchasing this unit?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a Powerbook G4 12" from my cousin, and the hinge was all beat up. The screen wouldnt work, although it did turn on fine(fan running and HD clicking). So we took it apart, and found a broken wire in the hinge, and replaced it, and now it works. But, after using it for a while, the fan was on full blast, and wouldnt turn down. Since it was still apart, we took off the top, and the HD and heatsink were encredibly hot(i probably would have burned my finger if I kept it there long enough). I know that it will get a bit hot, but nothing should be running at that temperature. What could cause this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to fix the blank screen but I don't want to use any heat. I found this method. This is the only one I found that didn't use a blow torch or such. [URL] Do any of you know where I can get a heatsink like that or if just the fins are available anywhere? I'm not sure what to search for when I do it online and I tried different variations but all the heatsinks I find have fans. I don't want to spend more than I have to since I don't need the fan. I also don't really want to buy online unless I can't find it in a retailer.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been noticing quite a difference in the temperatures of the two so just now I tried something. Running 4 threads of yes > /dev/null for 10 minutes now, I have a CPU temp of 202F and a CPU Heatsink temp of 128F. Thats a difference of 74F now either the heatsink is losing 74F faster than it can build it or something is wrong with the transfer between the two.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have been searching high and low for a alternative heatsink for a dual 1Ghz G4 CPU. I just got this chip off Ebay, but by dual heatsink, that works with a dual 533Mhz, won't fit. And I can't find anyone who is selling just the heatsink.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the past couple of weeks I've noticed that my old white macbook is running hot, and browsing has been kind of slow. I don't see anything out of the ordinary in the processes, but Heatsink A is reading -1. Should I just pull the machine apart and see if something isn't connected anymore? I installed a 7200 RPM HD a few months ago, but this problem is more recent.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using a G4 mini running 10.4.11 for web surfing, email, and document scanning for about 4 years with few issues. Recently, though, it loses its wired ethernet connection when I wake it from sleep. No ethernet device appears in Network Preferences/Network Status, and Network Utility shows the ethernet connection as "inactive". If I disconnect the ethernet cable for a few seconds and then reconnect it, the ethernet connection reappears in Network Preferences, goes "active" in Network Utility, and functions normally.
Once ethernet reappears, I can wiggle, tug, and disconnect/reconnect the cable and maintain the connection. The cable works normally with another computer. So it doesn't seem to be a hardware connection issue. The network has 2 other wired computers attached with no issues (an old homemade PC and a Mac Pro) and several other devices via both wired and wireless connections. So I don't think it is a router or dhcp issue. I don't recall installing any new software, although I install all Apple updates (including iTunes) when they become available.
I have a MacBook Pro 15" - Model A1226 (Santa Rosa, circa 2007). I need to replace my right fan. AppleCare just expired (of course). But replacing the fan should be pretty easy, I think.
The only question is about the tape securing the fan to the heatsink. On the old fan it looks like electrical tape, but on the "sticky" side, it looks like there is a bit of copper (?) in the middle.
So my assumption is that regular old electrical tape is not appropriate, but some special kind of electrical tape. What type of tape is that?
I need a good collection of realistic vector clip art images of computers, servers, etc. The only good source I know is Art Explosion, and their computer images are way out of date, no flat screen computers for one thing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a newbie coming over from MS for 12 years. Last week I recorded a short clip in iMovie...how neat is that
Tonight I recorded one again and now there is no sound when I played it back. I know I've fiddled with things in system preferences so maybe I set something that has now affected the sound in iMovie
I've checked all the obvious volume controls, they're all up and on.
I just purchased nicecast for the mac and have to say i love it. Great application that was well thought out!
Now, i want an application like windows sound recorder. Something that i can just record a clip or to and save it as .mp3 to which i can import or upload. 128kbps 44,1khz will do
For some reason when I make a video it wont let me e-mail it, even if the video is 2 -3 minutes long. I have tried compressing the video and everything else I can think of. Right now I am having to put it on my iDisk and sending an e-mail out to the person so they can receive it. Is their any other way to e-mail a video?

How do I add a clip to a movie in qicktime player 10.1?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn compositing, I sometimes need to use snippets from previous episodes, e.g an audio grab from an older program, or a 5 sec preview.
Is there a fast, direct way to regenerate that grab within my new movie so I don't need to save the entire source movie along with the back up of my new movie?

I just booted into Windows and saw that there were some Windows Updates available and it asked me to reboot the computer however it failed to boot into Windows. So I restarted and tried to boot into OS X instead, but that didn't work either.
So I put in the OS X install DVD and checked out Disk Utility. Turned out that all my partitions where screwed up. There were 3 partitions listed as Windows_ldm, with incorrect sizes (I had 4 partitions before).
Long story short: I'm now reinstalling OS X and I lost everything I had on the drive, I think. I'll try some restore software once I've gotten OS X installed.
A little pissed right now... How the heck can Windows F up the entire drive?
