Mac QuickTime :: .mov Files From My Nikon Coolpix Camera Won't Play?

I have downloaded many videos taken on my Nikon Coolpix camera. They downloaded in a .mov file format which I understand doesn't mean much. When I open them in QuickTime I can see the first shot of the video, a still image, but when I click on the Play button the scroll bar (underneath the image that moves as the video plays) immediately goes to the end of the scroll (from left to right side). My movies downloaded from my video camera play just fine in QuickTime though. What is the problem with my files? The file size seems awfully small too, like 28 - 32KBs.

Applications :: Quicktime X Won't Play Mov File?
The underlying issue here as well is that iDVD won't recognize this file either.

My wife works for a TV station and one of the editors at the station put a video file together with Final Cut Pro and put it on our external hard drive.

The file is just over 3 gig and won't open in Quicktime. It WILL open in VLC, but I need to get it in a format that iDVD will recognize because I created a DVD menu for this video and want to add it to my DVD project.

I have some other videos she recently brought home as well in the same .mov format but they are smaller, around 800 MB and those will not play in Quicktime either, but they are recognized by iDVD when I try to add a video the DVD project.

I'm guessing I'm missing a codec here and have tried a number of them but nothing seems to work. I was able to find a free converter that converted the file to .avi and it would then open in Quicktime, but there was a logo added to the video which makes it basically useless to us.

So my questions are-

1) Is it simply too big a file for Quicktime to play? What is the max file size it will play?
2) Is there possibly a codec I'm missing here that I haven't tried yet?
3) What else could the problem be?

ITunes :: Why Won't .mov Video, Shared From Quicktime, Play
I just finished exporting a movie from FCPX as a .mov. From there, I shared it with iTunes. I've tried sharing it with iTunes 3 times and each time when it finishes, the movie won't play. It's just a black screen with no audio. The timeline moves but no video. I've done this many times before and all of my other videos play fine. This video is about an hour and a half and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. All of my other videos I've shared with iTunes, that play fine, are shorter. The longest is 25 minutes.

Mac QuickTime :: MOV Files From Canon Digital Camera?
I recorded several videos on my Canon Digital IXUS 980 IS and imported them from my camera through iPhoto - the software that came with my camera doesn't work on my Mac. I then exported the files from iPhoto into the folder I wanted them in, and like an idiot deleted them both from the camera and from iPhoto.

When I click on the files, they bring up Quicktime, but Quicktime thinks they are all O minutes in playtime. The files are different sizes, but none of them will play. There are no error messages or any kind of information as to why Quicktime thinks these are just confused stills. The files played fine on my camera.

I might get them to play, or at least tell me what they think the fatal step was so I can NEVER do it again?

QuickTime :: 10 - Cannot Play FCE Exported MOV Files?
I have edited several videos using Final Cut Express and exported them as .mov files to my desktop. Now, because I have a small internal hard drive (128GB SSD), I copy all of my raw footage to an external hard drive and then delete the files from my Mac HD. But, I keep the finished videos on my desktop. When I try to play the video while the hard drive is plugged in, QuickTime opens and plays the video just fine. But, when the external hard drive is NOT connected and I try to play the video (from my Mac HD), QuickTime won't open it nor play it. If I absolutely have to, I will carry the external HD around with me so I can play my videos, but I was just wondering if it had to do with the codec (H.264) my OS (10.6.8) QuickTime X or FCE (4.1).

QuickTime :: Unable To Play Wmv Or Sometimes Mov Files?
I have the latest QT and OSX software.  I also have Perian installed.  I upgraded my Flip4Mac to version recently and now my QT will not play wmv files and sometimes it will not play mov files.  I've never had trouble with QT before and have learned through online research that there has been an issue with a 3ivx codec that comes with Divx that everyone says to remove from the System/library/quicktime folder.  I checked, and I didn't have that particular codec listed.  I DO, however, have ALL of these codecs listed in my QT folder:

This seems like a lot of codecs, many of which I am unsure about.  Could ANY of these be causing my wmv files (or my Flip4Mac) to be corrupt and unable to work?

Mac QuickTime :: Unable To Play AVI Files From My Camera In IPhoto?
I was having a problem playing AVI files created by my camera (Casio Exilim EXs500) when importing into iPhoto. Quicktime didn't understand the format. After searching w/in the forums I was unable to find a solution that didn't involve converting using streamclip or similar.

I went to Casio's site, downloaded an import file for the MaxOS, rebooted the mac and everything works fine. Just wanted to post this as a solution for others having similar problems. Check w/ the camera system to see if there's a component that can be downloaded.

In my case, there was a file downloaded (CASIO AVI Importer.component) that is then installed in the MacHD libarary/quicktime folder that solved the issue.

Mac QuickTime :: .MOV File Unreadable - X Won't Open It
I am trying to open and read a .mov file on my computer (late 2008 2.4 Ghz Macbook running the latest Snow Leopard) and QuickTime X won't open it, telling me that it's not a format recognised by QuickTime and that I might have to download additional softwares to read it. I have tried to open the file with QuickTime 7, VLC, Final Cut Express 4, and iMovie 09 as well. I have Perian and Flip4Mac installed. Nothing works. QuickTime seems to open other .mov files without any problem. I have checked the Info of the file and it's an HD video (1920x1080) with MPEG-2 Video, Linear PCM and Timecode as codecs. I have thought that the MPEG-2 Playback codec could solve the problem but it seems to be for Quicktime 7 and l'm pretty sure the file could be read with QuickTime X on the original Mac Pro, though on this point I might be mistaken. The file was transferred from a Mac Pro to my Macbook through a Western Digital My Passport (FireWire 800 and USB 2.0) external hard drive. Could the hard drive possibly have corrupted the file in one way or another? What I found odd was that the file was "locked" (with a padlock on the icon) on the hard drive and when transferred on my computer. I can unlock it in Info but I don't understand why it was locked, was it already like that on the original computer, is it something the hard drive does, and most importantly, does it have anything to do with me not being able to read it with QuickTime?

Following the QT Read Me directions, I installed them all in the same location and didn't change any names. I then copied the HTML code (below) from the QT Read Me to the appropriate web page. My Mac pulls the video perfectly, no complaints at all.

My iPhone, however, will open the page but the QT is grayed out and the Play button has a line through it. (I thought I had it working on first installation last night, but perhaps that was wishful thinking?).
