Mac Pro :: Why Is CPU Overloading
May 21, 2012
I've been running into some serious issues with CPU Overloading, specifically in Logic 9. I have an 8 Core Mac Pro with 32 GB of RAM. I have 13 lines of midi and one line of audio. It started as an overload while playing the project back so I thought it was my plug-ins (Eastwest Quantum Leap), but now it doesnt need play back to max out CPU. I can sit idol with the project open, no play back, midi tracks frozen, only to move the mouse and have CPU overload.
I realize from reading other threads that, "...just because you have an 8 Core computer doesnt mean your program delegates activities efficiently", but THIS is just rediculous.

So my family and I purchased a mac mini to act as a music server for our whole house system. we then use a ipad, iphone to control it and it works sweet. what i am noticing though is a slower more sluggish mac mini. i am importing a ton of music in and i am saving all music files to a 2 TB g-safe. i have about 57 gb so far on my g safe. now when i start up the mac mini everthing seems fine. its after i start up itunes, things start to go sluggish. is there anything i can do to make things faster? or reconfigure in any way?

I was doing software update today when all of a sudden my computer seemed to be overloading from the apps I was running prior...After 10 minutes of "Circle of Death" I performed a emergency shut down. (Probably not the best idea) Afterwards I restarted and was stuck on the main loading screen, (Apple with grey swirling circle) I left this for about 20 minutes came back to check on it and nothing had happened, several restarts with no new conclusion.I popped in the startup disk and ran a diagnostic on it with everything coming back fine...What the heck do I do now?

I am running an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 MIDI controller via USB into Logic Express 7. I use Mac OSX. I'm going straight from the Keystation Pro 88 into the MIDI port of my MacBook Pro. I use a Pre Sonus Firepod as my audio interface (not sure if that's even relevant...).
When I begin playing too many notes (especially after pressing the sustain), the piano (Garage Band grand piano .exs) starts to cut out. It sounds like BAD static, as if the MIDI were overloading Logic. I've tried changing the buffer size in audio preferences - it gets no better, only worse when I lower the size (32 being nothing but static).
