Mac Pro :: Which Slot To Put Graphics Card In
Dec 20, 2008
Rite now im trying to install my gtx 280 in my mac pro 1 but it will not fit in the first pcie slot. I know its pretty easy to get it in on the 2nd slot, but im just wondering if it will work? Or do all graphics cards have to be on the first slot? I read here that you can either put it in the first or second. So Im just making sure.
I already took the stock 7300 out of the 1st slot though.

I would like to set up a mac pro using Slots 1 & 2 for RME ADAT digital audio cards and move the graphics card (geforce GT 120 512mb) to slot 3 or 4 so that I can maximize slot speeds for multiple audio playback via logic. Is this possible?

I have a early 09 Mac Pro with the 4870 and I just received the GT 120 so I can run dual 24 ACD. When I install the GT 120 do I want to install it in the slot right above my 4870? Or 2 slots which would be slot 3.
If I install right above my 4870 then the GT120 would be right on top of the 4870 and doesn't seem like there would be much air flow getting above the card. Or does it not even matter which slot I install the GT120?

If you have a 13" 2010 MacBook Air with the SD card slot, and you are looking for a card to expand the capacity of your MacBook Air, what is the max capacity card currently available that you can use in this slot. I hear that they have new cards with capacities of up to 2TB, but are these cards compatible with the SD card slot on the MacBook Air? (SDXC 2TB cards)

The SD card slot is only available on the 13 inch MBA. I'm just wondering if anyone has used it yet?I have an SD card in my digital camera but I'm not a huge picture taker so I haven't used it. I'm thinking of getting a 32GB SD card for extra storage to slide in there.

I just got a G5 power mac (dual 2.3GHz) and bought one of these: [URL] as an airport substitute. When trying to install the card it doesn't appear to fit in the PCI slot. Am I right in thinking it should fit? Since it's a PCI card and the G5 has PCI/PCI-X inputs?

Is it possible to put an SD Card slot into the RevC MBA?, I just read that an SD card can be used to boot the MBP in case the HDD Fails. I would think that Apple might be able to squeeze a SD Slot in there to make the MBA even better. Also, the Rev-D should have the SD-Card Slot and a standard 4GB RAM.

Tried the search function without much luck and Google doesn't seem to be either, so I suspect the answer is now, but On the new MBPs there's an SD card slot. However, our company used cameras which take the smaller XD cards, so I was wondering if there's any sort of adapter available that you can put your XD cards in to be read by a standard SD slot?

One thing I hate about Mac's are there lack of Port's. Although I am a sincere/proud Mac Owner. I always wondered why Apple had lack of ports. Now my question:
Why doesen't the 17inch MBP have an SD CARD Slot and 4 USB PORT'S? Can we look forward to seeing this in the next update?
Also I think the Baseline MBP (13inch) should have at least 3 USB Ports too! For the 15 inch It should have 4 also.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not to give up my expresscard slot for an SD card slot. If I could figure out something useful to do with it, that would persuade me. I don't do hard core photography yet, and if I did, I could always just USB the camera.Does anyone use the SD card slot for something other than photography? I figured maybe it could be used like a floppy drive to organize certain projects or files but those could always be backed up to CD/ DVD. Not to mention, if you store the files on your hard drive, time machine would back them up.

I have a Highpoint 4322 8x PCIe Raid card in Slot 3. Which is a 4x lane.
Can I place the card in Slot 2 which is a 16x lane, will this let the card run at a full 8x times? and will there be any performance increase?

I have a question for you about the ExpressCard slot of the new MacBook Pros.. I'm going to buy (maybe today) my first Mac and I'd like to buy the 17", since I need a portable desktop replacement... one of the reasons why I'd like to buy the 17" (apart from the very nice screen resolution) is that it has an ExpressCard slot which enables you (I hope) to expand the capabilities of your MBP in the future... My question is if the ExpressCard is version 1 or 2, because I'd like to buy in the future an ExpressCard with USB 3 ports and only the ExpressCard 2 can support the specifications of USB 3 (5 Gbps), is it right? Do you think there will be USB 3 ExpressCards for the MBPs?

I bought a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT to supplement my pre-installed NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT video card. One card will run two Samsung LCD's and the other card a third similar monitor. Would I see any improved performance in programs such as Motion if I swap card slots, putting the 8800 in the main spot (running 2 monitors)? Or does the computer utilize both cards for improved realtime rendering regardless of what slot their in.

I have a 95MB/s UHS I and Class 10 SD card. Using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, I get 17 MB/s write and 19.8 MB/s read speeds.  Following the information in this apple support document, the speed of my internal card reader is 480Mb/s. Depending upon how you convert bits to bytes, that should be in the 57-60MB/s range.Â
Anyone know I can get it running at the max?

I am thinking about purchasing one of the early releases of the MBP 15", before they replaced the expresscard slot with the SD Card slot. As a filmmaker, the expresscard slot allows on-site ingestion of Sony's and Panasonic's SxS and P2 cards - a nice utility. I also don't use point-and-shoots, so the SD card has zero utility for me.I just wanted to make sure that, before I buy the previous revision, there is nothing I will be missing by purchasing the older edition. I remember that they widened the color gamut on the MBPs by 30% with the update, but this is really insignificant as their color accuracy isn't thaaaat great anyway.

I have a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo (8 GB) full of pictures that I want to transfer to my Macbook Pro. However, the adapter I have doesn't fit into the slot. The memory stick alone fits into the slot and I thought that would work since it has on my PC in the past, but that doesn't work either. What kind of adapter do I need to get?

First of all, sorry for my bad English.I want to buy a notebook (my first one). A macbook pro. I know that 17" model has the expresscard slot, and 15" has SD card instead. I'd like to know:Can the 15" model be equipped with expresscard slot? (that is, substitute SD by expresscard). If not, does any adaptor/converter exist on the market?Apart, which one is better (is more usable/useful), SD slot or expresscard slot?

The CD slot is so close to the memory card slot, and I usually find them by feel as they are on the far side of the computer. I have to actualy stand up to peer around the side of my screen. While trrying to retrieve the card, I heard something drop, presumably it has droped inside somewhere.

How do I use an SD card with this computer? I stick SD cards into the slot - close Image Capture - in Finder it's listed - I can copy files off of it - but there is no way to put anything on it. I always get a "no space available" message. I put a brand new 2GB SD card into this slot and I cannot get one picture onto it - no space available. I went to my Windows7 desktop - stuck it in - drag and dropped over 500 pictures on it. EASY. Took 15 seconds. Now - my Apple - that costs 4 times as much - how do I achieve this on this machine - or can I ?
