MacBook Aluminum :: After Using The Laptop The Feature Suddenly Turns Off?
I noticed this problem several time after waking the laptop from sleep so it could possibly be a sleep issue. I have tap-to-click on, and sometimes after using the laptop for a while, the feature suddenly turns off and I have to depress the button on the trackpad to click. In System Preferences, however, it is still reflected as enabled. The problem can be resolved but first unchecking the option and re-selecting it.Anyone else has this issue or a solution?Futhermore, I noticed that the secondary tap feature is not available in Windows using Boot Camp?

Mac Pro :: Monitor Suddenly Has No Input
I have a 2x2.8 QuadCore Mac Pro, 2 GB RAM, OS10.5.6. My Dell Trinitron CRT monitor has been working fine. Now, out of the blue, it says it is not getting a signal. I checked the cords, tried plugging into both ports on the video card...nothing. The monitor seems to be OK because the screen says, in color, that it is not getting a signal. Over a network, I share the screen with my MacBook and the Mac Pro seems fine. I ran diagnostics and everything works, restarted, repaired permissions, ran Onyx. Still nothing. One troubling thing. When I go to "About this Mac", go to "More Info," and select Graphics/Displays "About this Mac" freezes and quits without saying what the card is. Does this sound like a bad video card?

Mac Pro :: Screen Suddenly Freezing Up And Becoming Pixelated?
I own a Mac Pro (2x2.8ghz Quad Core Xeon, 6gb DDR2 Ram, Nvidia 8800GT, running in 64-bit mode), and a 30" cinema display. I am running OS 10.6.5 at the moment as well.

What happens (and its been happening all day, rarely happened in the past), is that my entire screen freezes up for no real reason, and becomes completely pixelated and nothing but my cursor moves.

The pixelation even makes it through the force shut down and into the grey apple startup screen, the logo is pixelated there as well.

For some reason, I can't seem to reset the PRAM (no second startup chime?), and I can't seem to enter safe-mode either (shift at startup?)

Right now, the problem isn't happening, but at this rate I expect it to start pixelating very, very soon.

Does anyone have any tips?

I have AppleCare, but I need to fix this asap. I'm a photographer and a very big project depends on it (needs to be submitted by tomorrow morning).

Mac Pro :: Finder Suddenly Quits And Restarts?
I have an early 2008 MacPro-10GB memory. Recently switched out two of the drives and decided to try a mirrored RAID setup with 2 3TB Seagate Barracuda drives as the boot set (using Lion 10.7.2). Ever since, I have had random episodes where the finder quits, everything closes and then the finder comes back up and is ready to go but all my programs have been shut down in the process. It can happen as often as four times an hour. I don't lose more than a couple of minutes of work but if I'm iChatting, I suddenly lose the connection or scanning stops or printing stops. Should I not have tried to set up the RAID?

Mac Pro :: Fan Speed Suddenly Unusually Loud?
In the 6 years I've had this Mac Pro 1,1 I've never heard the fans this loud. I'm running 10.7.4 and have a FCP Compressor job running, which I've done quite often, but it's never caused the fans to be audible. It's to the point where It's really distracting.  I regularly run high CPU activities on this machine (graphic renders, video transcoding, etc..) and have never heard the fans or gotten the speed to go beyond 650rpm (checking on the iStat Pro widget). The temps on the machine are 83 and 85 f on both CPUs (i've also noticed the temps are displayed differently after 10.7.4 update was done). But for some reason, the exhaust and CPU fans are running at full output (2800 rpm each).

Desktops :: Mac Pro Suddenly Not Recognizing Discs / No Mountable Filesystems
Hopefully this is the correct place to post my question. Yesterday I inserted a movie DVD into the internal drive of my MacPro 3,1 and received the error message, "The disc you inserted is not readable by this computer". I tried several different movie discs, some old, some new releases I just purchased and I get the same message. Data discs work fine but not movie DVDs.

I also noticed that my Mac can no longer mount an ISO or DMG file. I get an error saying "No Mountable filesystems". I have repaired permissions, restarted, disconnected all external peripherals, etc. Pretty much all the basic stuff you try when your Mac isn't behaving as you'd expect. The odd thing is that it just started behaving this way within the last two days. DVDs played fine before and I could mount any ISO or DMG file. Only thing that is different is I ran the most recent security update from Apple when it popped up.

Mac Pro :: Running Two Monitor Displays - Suddenly New Whirring Sound
I have the early 2008 Mac Pro, standard configuration. I run a 30" ACD and recently added a second monitor. Ever since then I have been hearing this faint whirring sound, as if something in the machine is starting/reving up and then whirring down. It's audible to me because I have my machine sitting on top of a pedestal desk right beside my table. Does running two monitors make something inside, maybe a fan, run wierd? Could it be the fan of the video card? I am just curious, as I had not heard the sound before when I was running just one monitor. Oh, and the second monitor in question is a Wacom Cintiq. Video card is the stock ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT. I dare not open the side panel when the machine is running to check what's causing it lest I mess something up. It's like, rrrrrrrrrrrrr, rrrrrrr, rrrrrrrrrrr, like a miniature reving sound. LOL, that's the best I can do to imitate the sound. It's as audible as the sound of the regular fans.

After almost two years of ownership, my Macbook Pro is acting up. In the middle of using it, the screen image will turn into a negative image of what is on the screen without me doing anything, pushing buttons, etc. I can temporarily fix the problem by tilting the screen back or forth a little bit, and the screen returns to normal. This is now happening several times a day. Any idea what is causing it? A loose cable connection to the monitor? A video card issue?

Mac Pro :: Drive Disappearing Suddenly / Drive Not Recognized
I have a Western Digital Green 2 TB drive attached to on of the two extra SATA II ports on my 2006 Mac Pro. No problems for over three years using several drives on this port. Today the drive suddenly would not mount and I received a "Drive Not Recognized" warning. In Disk Utility the drive is completely empty without any volume. I also now have a 32-GB "phantom" volume which used my user name - but does not exist. I turned off the computer and put the drive in an external enclosure, which it mounted without difficulty. I am now updating my backup of the drive and ordered a new 2 TB WD Black drive.

Only a few days ago I had the similar problem with a SD card - missing volume contents, a "phantom" 32 GB volume. I actually reformted and erased the SD drive, ran Disk Utility to check it, and put it in another computer - using the same SD card reader - and all the files were there!! Nothing was erased at all. Very strange.

Anyone have any idea WTF is going on? It seems like my motherboard drive controllers are getting flaky. Any way to test it? I have all the usual test programs, but nothing has shown up.

1.- The imac turned off by it self.

2.- I tried to turned on pressing the turn on/off button and it did not do anything.

3.- I disconected the computer form the wall and wait for some minutes, and it did no do anything.

4.- After about 20 minutes i tried again and turned on by pessing the on and off button.

5.- The imac turned off again and disconected form the wall and conected to another electrical contact at the wall, adn it did not turned on.  i wait for some minutes and turned on again, but after about five minutes it turned off again.

6.- I left the imac connected to the wall for a couple hours and i tried to turned onn by pessing the on/off button and it did not turned on.

7.- I left all night connected form the wall and tried to turn it on this morning and it did not turn on.

8.- This time, I only disconnected the imac cord form the back of the computer and left it for a couple of hours, then I concected and turned on

9.- All the times that the computer turned on it started like a restart and no announce or windows appear telling me about an error or something like that.

10.- One of the times I touched the computer at the back and felt it hot, not too hot, but I do not how normal is.

11.- I can feel some very, very little air at the back form the vent.

What do I hve to do? What kind of tests can I do to know if the computer's an is working ok?

Intel Mac :: Screen Just Turns Off?
I got home to find my mac was unresponsive. I thought it had fallen to sleep so i kept pressing keys on the keyboard and clicking the mouse. Nothing happened, I tried everything. So I turned it off by holding down the power button and turned it back on. But then 10 mins later while using it, the screen just instantly turned off! The iMac was still running, it even had the music still playing in the background from iTunes, but again it was unresponsive to my commands. After 1 minute the music turned into an awful static cry for help. So i turned it off. Here i am again on the Mac after turning it back on, but i'm scared it could just go again any second.

I have so far had a few instances of this phenomenon w/ my 15 mo. old Mac. First, when charging my Mac at night in off-mode, it will occasionally turn itself on at some point evidenced by the power-on when it's opened. Then,I have had one instance of a shut-down by itself during use. It restarted w/ no problem. Next, the computer turned itself on with the cover closed and the computer had been off all night. I heard it start up, so I am sure. I do have AppleCare if I need to take it in.

If the charger is unplugged for 5 minutes, the computer completely shuts down. So basically I cannot use the computer unless it is plugged in. Intel Mac :: 27" Turns Off As If It Short-circuits?
I've only noticed this happening when I'm using Photoshop CS5... I have an iMac 27" with:

Intel Core i5

(Mod identifier: iMac11,3)

WHEN I USE PHOTOSHOP, and I use the free transform tool to enlarge (only when I enlarge) an image, the computer turns off completely, instantly without any warning. Just straight to 'OFF' mode. I have to start it again with the power button. No reports of unusual behaviour come up on the screen, it just shuts off as if there has been a power cut. Nothing else shuts off from the power supply, just the iMac so I know the problem is definitely internal (within the iMac).

Intel Mac :: I3 Mid 2010 21,5 Turns On Periodically
I read a lot about that issue but I found replies about imacs that wont turn on. But my Imac after the problem, turned on one time.

My issue is that my imac was working like a charm. The day before yesterday, at night, i had an automatic update of firefox and after i switched it off normally.

The day after, at morning, I tried to turn it on but it was behaving like it was not attached to the electricity.

I started to read and I found all that solutions so I did the following:

1. Tried other cables (for power supply)

2. Tried other plugs (in different rooms)

3. Put out the ram sticks and cleaned with a blow dryer the sticks and the space inside the imac so the dust goes out.

4. Tried the reset of SMC with no success as it could not be turned on

I tried everything and after I leaved the mac alone, (3-4 hours) and after i just clicked the button and it was on. I left it all night long switched on so that i save my data and I found it on, this morning.

So this morning I did everything to reset the SMC. I put it in sleep mode, restart it, shut it down, put out the cable for 15 sec, put it back, wait 5 sec, but it wont turn on again. I know that there are a lot of responses for the same issue, but I didn't find one that the imac turns on periodically.
