Logic Studio / Pro :: How To Setup An Existing Yamaha N12 With A New IMac

I just bought a Yamaha N12 mixer Dec 2009 last month and been trying it with my MacBook Pro. It's firmware has been updated to work with the Yamaha Steinberg FW driver, and it's been communicating fine with the my MacBook Pro.

Now the problem. I just bought an iMac 27' running Mac OS X 10.6.2 last week.

How should I get the N12 to talk to my iMac? What sequence of driver installation should I go about? Should install all the Tools for n/mLan drivers that came with the N12 installation discs still? And then carry on with installing the Yamaha Steinberg FW driver over it? Or can I straight away install the latest Yamaha Steinberg FW driver?

I'm afraid of technical problems as I might have screwed up my first iMac's firewire 800 port when I installed the Yamaha Steinberg FW driver straight away. Luckily the Mac shop was kind enough and willing to give me a one for one replacement of the iMac due to the firewire port problem. I'm not sure to what extend the firewire800 port problem might have with the FW driver installation or if it was a manufacturing defect. In anycase, its a one-time only exchange. And I now have the replacement iMac, and the firewire800 port is working fine. I'm now hesitant to install anything so that the iMac can talk to my N12 in the worry that it might affect anything if I did the wrong steps especially the firewire 800 port.

i just want my N12 to talk to my new iMac without any possible spoiling of my firewire 800 port due to wrong installation steps on my part.

Logic Studio / Pro :: No Effect With Yamaha Grand Piano Sampler
I recently got a second M-Audio SP-2 pedal to hopefully use as either a sostenuto or una corda on my M-Audio Keystation Pro 88. When I configure it on the controller, everything looks good there and in Logic (the transport reads the correct CC and note on/off commands) but there is no sostenuto or una corda effect using Logic's ESX24 Yamaha Grand Piano sampler. Finally it hit me - maybe Logic's Yamaha Grand Piano does not have una corda or sostenuto samples. Can anyone confirm? Or has anyone gotten these effects to work in Logic using that sample?

Logic Studio / Pro :: Freshly Recorded Tracks Do Not Line Up With Existing Music?
When I go to play back freshly recorded track(s) from any type of audio source, they play about a half second earlier than the rest of the existing tracks. I have to manually line them up. I used Logic flawlessly for about six months and then out of nowhere this started happening. Everything in my system has remained untouched since the day I set it up and I have not changed any relevant settings that I know of. Anyone else have this problem?

I don't understand why my LP8 setup has phase issues. I opened a new project, created a software ins. track, inserted the "Steinway Piano Club" and then inserted the correlation meter on the Output L/R. It isn't in phase. I also insert an electric bass from logic library and Alicia's Keys and they were both out of phase as well. Is it normal that when playing one instrument you can have phase issues?

Logic Studio / Pro :: Finding The Way To Setup Two Keyboards?
I have 2 keyboards, one with weighted action, one without, and wish to easily play some instruments with one and not the other, (but other times with either). In particular, I want to play, for example, just the internal piano of the weighted keyboard with my right hand, while not triggering the midi-instrument that my left hand is playing on the unweighted keyboard. This is easy in Cubase (from which I am a recent convert) as you just select Input from Port 1, 2, 3 etc., but apparently not so in Logic.

(Another similar situation, but maybe a little more complicated, would be to simultaneously play one internal instrument from one keyboard , and another from the other keyboard, and record tracks for both of them at the same time). My problem is that no matter what I seem to do, whatever instrument (internal or external) is active on the selected track responds to all midi channels being transmitted, not just one. Having read other advice, I have tried the following:

Set keyboards to transmit on different channels,e.g. 1 & 2.

Set the active instrument to channel 1 (I expected it to pick up only channel 1 but it still picks up all others).Gone to Settings/Recording and activated "Auto demix by channel if multitrack recording" checkbox.Delved into the Environment and taken separate cables from the Physical Input, rather than its sum output. (Actually disconnecting one of these will solve the problem but I don't always want to have to do that, and it wouldn't help in a multi-record situation).

Tried using a splitter to get each keyboard to input on either channel 1 or 2 (unnecessary really because I already know its transmitting on different channels, I can see it on Environment monitors).Nothing changes. Surely it can't be this difficult. All I want to do is to make, say an EXS24 instrument "listen" to just channel 1 for instance, not channel 2. How do you do that? It's the same if using an External multi-timbral instrument. All timbres (all set to receive on different channels) receive midi info on all channels when you're playing either keyboard, not just, say channel 1 and not any other. However, when playing back recorded midi-tracks, they respond to the set midi-channel only, as you would want.As I say, this situation doesn't arise in Cubase, because you are able to select input from different Ports.

Logic Studio / Pro :: Audio MIDI Setup Not Allowing Aggregate Device?
I recently upgraded to a mac pro, and transferred everything from my old mac via firewire..

On my previous computer, using my aggregate device (Roland Fantom + Built-in output + built-in input) was no problem. I would simply choose in Logic my aggregate device under the core Audio preferences, and I could play logic software instruments with the roland keys, record audio through the roland, and play it back through the built-in line output no problem..

Now, on my mac pro, I can't do this because the aggregate device I created on my previous computer is not showing up under the devices pull-down menu in the core audio preferences in logic, and I cannot create a new aggregate device on this computer, as a matter of fact I cannot even seem to delete the old one... when i click the plus or minus (+/-), the blue shade highlighting the selected audio device just goes straight to the device at the top of the list (which happens to be built-in mic). it does not even allow me to deselect or select any checkboxes within the existing "9/25 aggregate".. when I try it just makes the devices listed in that window wiggle.

I have attached a screen shot of the Audio Midi setup screen (where one should be able to create aggregate devices)

So I have a lot of midi instruments.. I want to start using them along with the computer.
I have 3 emagic unitor8 chained up, so 24 inputs, 24 outputs.
I defined every single device, added device icons, made all the connections, etc..
Saved the configuration. Everything fine up until the next time, when I checked the application when the midi interfaces were off. I lost 2/3 of the connections made (devices remained) and the thing auto saved it!

I'm not such an advanced Logic midi user, should I be doing this in the environment instead of in Audio Midi Setup?

Logic Studio / Pro :: Making Space In My Hard Drive To Install Logic Studio Upgrade?
I have a 1st generation Mac Book Pro. That means 100Gb of storage.

I've been using it for professional audio recording since then with Logic Pro (6 or 7 I think) and I made necessary upgrades when they were available in both Mac book and Logic. So, now my Mac has 2.16 GHz processor, 2GB memory RAM and is running Mac OS X 10.6.3 when it comes to Logic, I am in Logic 8, trying to make the last upgrade of Logic Studio but looks like there's no more space available on my laptop. At this point, I moved any other data that I don't need. My Hard drive is almost full of a data that most of it supposedly needs to be replaced or skipped. I'm talking about additional content of audio coming on Jam Pack, etc... The installation program allow me to put some of the data in other hard drives (about 22.68 GB) but still is not enough.

Is there any way to solve this? May be uninstalling programs and data that later will be installed again with my upgrade? I don't want to make a mess before asking.

Probably is time to get a new computer. If this is the only option please somebody tell me! but if is not, I refuse to spend the money. My laptop is working fine...

Logic Studio / Pro :: Deploying Logic Studio With Apple Remote Desktop - Is This Possible
I work at a university and we're going to be deploying Logic Studio to about 40 machines. I'm wondering if it's possible to do this with the following strategy and if anyone here has done something similar etc or has a better idea?

Create images of the installation discs on the hard drive.

Mount them all.

Using Apple Remote Desktop, deploy the main installer package on the first disc to all the remote machines in one go, hoping it will pull in all the other packages from the locally mounted disc images by itself.

The only other way I could think of doing this without wasting too many hours would be to install Logic Studio on one machine then clone that entire machine's hard disk to all the other ones, but this would be a pain as we have a few different macs in the university and with different configurations. In the past we have just imaged the installation discs to a portable hard drive and gone round each machine installing manually. Takes up to a week as we have to tend to other duties too
