Logic Studio / Pro :: Connecting Apogee Duet & G-Drive Mini To MacBook Pro?
I'm trying to connect all three items together but realizing that I may not have enough ports to connect them all?
My MacBook Pro has Firewire 800 port only (and USB).
My G-Drive mini external hard drive (500 GB/7200 RPM) has Firewire 800, Firewire 800-400, USB 2.0
My Apogee Duet has one Firewire 400 port (out).
I had the G-Drive connected to my Mac via the FireWire 800 port, but now I want to throw the Duet into the mix and I'm not sure how.
I do have a FW400 to FW800 cable to connect the duet to MacBook's FW800 port (the only FW800 port on the Mac) but how am I to connect the G-Drive? Would I use the USB connector between the Drive and Mac?

Logic Studio / Pro :: Apogee Duet Not Working
I just received. When I connect the firewire cable to the Duet, I hear a relay click and all the leds are lit. They are permanently lit, nothing happens when I push the button or keep it down for a longer time. Maestro software does not recognize the unit. Operating system firewire settings show that there is Duet found on the firewire port. Also I can choose it as audio input and ouput in the OS system settings. But no sound can be heard via the unit. Logic Express 9 Duet Control Panel lets me "control" the unit, but nothing happens in the unit itself. I have downloaded the new drivers from the Apogee web site, but no success.

Logic Studio / Pro :: How To Use Apogee Duet To Scrub
I see the software that runs the Apogee Duet (Maestro) has the ability to enable MIDI controller operation. Seems like it would be a natural to use the encoder knob for scrubbing Logic. I made an attempt to see if I could assign it to scrub. However Logic's "easy" method of making the assignment involves selecting the function you want to control and I don't see a way of specifically selecting Scrub in Logic. Has anyone figured out how to do this? Sure seems like the Duet Encoder knob would be a cool tool for scrubbing. Information: Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Logic Studio / Pro :: Audio Midi Not Syncing With Apogee Duet And 9.0.1
I've done a lot of searching on this topic and found several possible solutions, none of which have worked for me. I keep getting audio midi sync errors with varying sample rates detected and a message saying conflict with external device. This has only started happening for me since upgrading to from Logic 8 to Logic 9, and has persisted through the upgrade to 9.0.1 and also through system upgrades from 10.5.8 to 10.6, and now to 10.6.1. All the way through I have been using the same Apogee Duet, which has the latest Apogee software update installed. I've tried all the different buffer settings in Logic, checked my sync settings and tried everything else I can think of, and nothing seems to stop this happening. I've seen some posts on other forums that say the problem is triggered by saving a file, for me that's not the case, it seems more random. There doesn't seem to be any obvious consistent cause that I can see. I can't even reproduce the error consistently when I deliberately try performing the most recent action before it last happened. Usually I reset core audio by switching back and forth between I/O buffer sizes and applying changes and that fixes it temporarily. This has happened working at 44.1k and 96k, I tried both as I originally thought perhaps it was only 96k projects, but no such luck. Am I missing something obvious here? Some sort of sync preference setting that is causing the conflict? I'd actually be really happy if it is something like that rather than a software/hardware conflict that is going to require an update from either Apple or Apogee to fix. Logic Studio / Pro :: Logic Pro 9 - Apogee Duet - BFD2 Settings - Inconsistent Performance
I've gone through some trial and error and just can't get these to play nice. I'm running on a 2007 MacBook Pro, 2.2Ghz with 2GB of RAM. I have an external 7200 Firewire drive, and my Apogee Duet running through the external (only 1 FW Port). I have a Alternate Mode DrumKAT (MIDI Controller) running through a USB interface. I'm triggering BFD2 drum sounds with the drumpad. I get the most inconsistent performance with this combination. I can track through the duet just fine, I can mix and add effects and do all sorts of things. The minute I add the BFD drums, though, all **** breaks loose. But, only sometimes. Sometimes it'll handle it just fine, other times the RAM will fill up and I'll get a message "You do not have a enough memory to run this session, Logic Pro will shut down." I'm getting frustrated with the technology. Basically, I'm wondering if anyone is using this setup, specifically BFD2 and Logic Pro 9, and what settings do you use to get the most performance out of it?

Logic Studio / Pro :: Using Apogee Duet Jog Wheel - Song Position Pointer
Does anybody have this working? I've set the Duet to send song position pointer via MIDI and Logic sees the message but for the life of me I can't get that playhead moving. I've searched on Gearslutz and there are several conflicting stories. Some people say it's working for them. Others have the same problem I do. A guy from Apogee posted and said it was out of their hands and they had logged the issue with Apple. I've looked at the change logs for recent Logic updates and see no mention of the issue being fixed. Logic Studio / Pro :: Setting Recording Levels On The Duet?
Is this even possible with the duet? I'm trying to keep my recording levels at "the recommended" 6dB BELOW zero (-6dB) for headroom. All I seem to be able to do is control the amount of gain on the duet, with the lowest gain value being at +10dB. I want all my recordings to peak at -6dB getting into logic. According to the logic manual... "the Volume fader (in logic's channel strip) controls only the playback (or monitoring) level, not the recording level. You must set recording levels externally—on your mixer, or at the original sound source"

Logic Studio / Pro :: Making Space In My Hard Drive To Install Logic Studio Upgrade?
I have a 1st generation Mac Book Pro. That means 100Gb of storage. I've been using it for professional audio recording since then with Logic Pro (6 or 7 I think) and I made necessary upgrades when they were available in both Mac book and Logic. So, now my Mac has 2.16 GHz processor, 2GB memory RAM and is running Mac OS X 10.6.3 when it comes to Logic, I am in Logic 8, trying to make the last upgrade of Logic Studio but looks like there's no more space available on my laptop. At this point, I moved any other data that I don't need. My Hard drive is almost full of a data that most of it supposedly needs to be replaced or skipped. I'm talking about additional content of audio coming on Jam Pack, etc... The installation program allow me to put some of the data in other hard drives (about 22.68 GB) but still is not enough. Is there any way to solve this? May be uninstalling programs and data that later will be installed again with my upgrade? I don't want to make a mess before asking. Probably is time to get a new computer. If this is the only option please somebody tell me! but if is not, I refuse to spend the money. My laptop is working fine... Logic Studio / Pro :: Hiss Caused By Mini Display Port In New MacBook Pro
I just got a new 15" Macbook Pro. I installed all of the Snow Leopard updates as well as firmware for my audio interface (Alesis IO 26). I plug it in and all I hear through my monitors is a very disturbing hissing sound. This hissing sound responds to certain actions, like scrolling with scroll wheel on my mouse. So I think it's a problem with Snow Leopard and the Alesis updates. Well, I finally figured out that the cause of the hissing noise was directly caused by plugging in a VGA adapter to the Mini Display port to view Logic on dual monitors. As soon as the metal from the display adapter touches the port, the hissing sound appears. The display port is located directly next to the Firewire 800 port that my audio interface is plugged into. This seems like a serious design flaw in the new MBPs. Information: Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.1) 15.4" 2.8 ghz

Logic Studio / Pro :: Use PC External Hard Drive On Imac?
Still learning to use my new Imac & about to install Logic. Until now I've been using a PC to do my recordings & have all my important data & Native Instruments Library file stored on my ext hard drive. I was hoping to use the same with my Mac but I just learnt that there are some issues with ext hard drives used for PC when it is used for Mac. I would like to clarify this. Will I be able to use/access the library files I've stored on this ext drive from my Imac (which is used by my PC also )? Will I be able to write/transfer new data from my Mac to this ext drive to be shared on my PC? Some say that Mac needs to reformat the ext drive in order to use (which I cant do as I will loose all important data)! If that is the case ,how will I be able to transfer music & recording data from PC to Mac? Information: Imac

If I was to record to another internal/external drive how does Logic go about keeping the the correct audio with the right projects as they will be on different drives?

Logic Studio / Pro :: Deploying Logic Studio With Apple Remote Desktop - Is This Possible
I work at a university and we're going to be deploying Logic Studio to about 40 machines. I'm wondering if it's possible to do this with the following strategy and if anyone here has done something similar etc or has a better idea? Create images of the installation discs on the hard drive. Mount them all. Using Apple Remote Desktop, deploy the main installer package on the first disc to all the remote machines in one go, hoping it will pull in all the other packages from the locally mounted disc images by itself. The only other way I could think of doing this without wasting too many hours would be to install Logic Studio on one machine then clone that entire machine's hard disk to all the other ones, but this would be a pain as we have a few different macs in the university and with different configurations. In the past we have just imaged the installation discs to a portable hard drive and gone round each machine installing manually. Takes up to a week as we have to tend to other duties too Neil.
