Intel Mac :: Photos Saving In Smaller Resolution?
Jun 21, 2012
I am using a WD 'My Book for Mac' external drive on my mac. I have noticed that photo files are backing up in a much smaller resolution (e.g. 50kb vs the 2mb original). I can't seem to locate a full size on the WD drive. Any tips as I would hate to lose the drive and find all that I have backed up is effectively a thumbnail of all my photos.Â

I want to do this with VLC. I'm use the streaming wizard and the help files say to input the start and stop times in seconds. Why wouldn't I use the counter on the video? When I tried to pick a start and stop in seconds it didn't seem to have any bearing on the real time counter on the video I had just played. It did save the video, albeit in a lower quality of .mpg.
1: How do I retain full video and audio quality? (I don't care about file size, only quality.)
2: How do I save everything, for example, from minute 10 to minute 11? You'd think that would be 600 to 660 in seconds but it didn't look like that when I played it. Also the counter started at 11 hours.

I have run into a similar problem before, when Address Book stopped accepting changes to contacts altogether. I followed advice I saw on the web and deleted the .plist files for Address Book in the Preferences file in my Library. That worked like a charm. Now, that doesn't work.
I have deleted the files, restarted my computer, verified and fixed permissions using Disk Utility, and let my computer rest overnight by leaving it off. Nothing works and I've tried several combinations of order. I am running Mac OSX 10.6.8 on a first generation Intel MacBook Pro. All software is up to date

I have a Canon PowerShot A610 digital camera, and I've recently switched laptops to a Macbook Pro. This camera worked perfectly on my old laptop, and appears to work perfectly here too... on the surface.
The photos are automatically brought into iPhoto, which I'd rather not use because I need to move files around and do some editing. But OK, I can always go to the folder they're stored in and open them in another program, right? ...Wrong.
Bizarrely, my photos display well in iPhoto, but come out in a terribly small size if I open them in any other program. If I open the original files in Premier and Photoshop, for instance, I'll get a tiny little thumbnail shot about 300 pixels wide - and if I zoom in, it becomes very badly pixelated. So it really does look like the file has been downloaded at an insanely small size.
Yet when I view the slideshow in iPhoto, my pictures are displayed in a higher resolution... although they're the same files! I therefore know that the actual photos have been downloaded to the computer, not just thumbnails. To use the iPhoto versions, however, I have to start a classic slideshow (because "classic" gives the biggest pictures), take a screenshot of the slideshow, and then open the new screenshot file to get a decent-quality picture. But these are still much, much smaller than the size the photos are actually supposed to be, and it means I have to edit out the frames the slideshow put around the pictures. I have no way of accessing the files at their real size.

I have a few pictures I took with my digital camera and I want to print them and put them in a frame that is 11.5cm * 7.7cm. So, I need to adjust their size to print them that size.
I don't have a colour printer, so I'm printing off a library computer in colour, so I can't print them directly off my mac. I'm going to need to transfer them on a usb and open them in windows on a library computer. The pictures are in .JPG format since I uploaded them.
-So I went to Preview (program) and Tools > Adjust size.
-I typed in 7.7cm for width and it gave me a locked length of 11.1cm as that would probably keep the pictures proportionate. I'm alright with that.
But then, when I look at my picture, it's much smaller that the actual dimensions of 7.7cm. Then when I zoom in, it is pixelated. That'd odd because I'm actually reducing the dimensions of my picture.
How do I adjust their size so they print to 11.1 cm 7.7 cm?

How can I send high resolution photos from iphoto11 as attachments, not imbedded and made lower resolution in emails? Each time I try to do this, I choose the "actual size" option in iphoto, but I'm told by repients that the photos come through in lower resolution than I sent them and they were imbedded not attached.
There must be a way to send high reolution, suitable for reporduction, photos. After all Apple is said to be super in graphics. All the tutorials, even my "One to One" guru give instructions for imbedding the photos.

Is there any way to save stuff from YouTube to a USB device for later playback? On my IMac, I guess it's "saved as" an archive link. So, it's just a shortcut when hooked to the internet for playback. When I work @ various places; I have computer access, maybe a Win, maybe a Mac; a lot of times no internet access. So, it would be cool to access music/stuff to pass the time. Usually I can't bring an IPod or such in (paranoia) - so it's maybe a CD or a USB-Wav or MP3.

When saving files to my folder on the desktop from the Mac Email, it does not replace same name files. Instead it makes a new file by adding (-1, -2, etc.) at the end of the file. Is there a setting somewhere that makes it so that this does not happen?

Periodically the wireless network has to be manually reselected in airport even after several attempts to save the preferences. It appears as the preffered network but simply won't stay connected. It is an existing network that has worked just fine with an older PC, and a macbook. The only issue is with keeping the iMac online. Is there a way to correct this so that the "network not selected" nonesense ceases and it remains connected?

I have just bought a new desktop iMac to replace my first and original Mac Power PC G4, OS 10.4.11. It has iDVD installed, which no longer comes with the latest iMacs. I have a LaCie external hard drive with just the basic Intego Backup Assistant operating. I'm considering whether to invest in upgrading to Pro, which would allow me to backup the entire hard drive of my old Mac. One of the things that would make up my mind would be whether I could then migrate iDVD to my new iMac, and continue to use it from there?

I just installed a new SSD. Time Machine is active. It says it is saving data. When you open TM, it opens the times that it saved data except there is noting in the boxes and the button to choose a backup to restore is greyed out, not allowing to choose anything as there isn't anything to choose. The TM says that it has backed upped 350 gb of data. There is nothing there however. I rebooted, disconnected external drive, even reformatted and started over. Nothing seems to work.

1440x900 resolution of the new MacBook Air 13.3" screen is simply too high, making everything way too small and straining on my eyes. Is there a replacement LED LCD panel with a lower resolution (1280x800 like the old MBA) that could be retrofitted?

It is clear there are people who love their high-res antiglare display; the ability to have more pallets open in Photoshop, see more of what you are doing in Logic. However, there is a fair few of us who dislike the high-res because of decreased fonts, smaller graphical interface things.if you had the choice to go for a high-res or normal res antiglare 15", what would you go for?

OK, let's come to the main topic of this thread;-At first, my hackintosh couldn't get my gfx card, i couldn't find the driver(kext) so my resolution was very bad. Everything was huge and blurry. I couldn't even look at my 17" Samsung LCD screen. I made an entry to file which was something like this

Who has actually played games on BOTH the 2010 high res and standard res macbook pros?Reading through that gaming benchmark thread isn't much of an indicator as most people don't post their resolution and if they have they have only played on one or the other.Im trying to get a better indicator on the performance difference with newer games. Are we talking 2-6 fps drop or 10-20 or more?

So i'm trying to figure out the best resolution for using my macbook pro in clamshell mode. I think ever since i installed snow leopard the new resolution choices i have are not longer pixel x pixel, but actual TV resolutions, such as 1080i, 720p, 420p. In the past I've used SwitchResX to do custom resolutions for my tv but that dosnt seem to work anymore.
I'm trying to find a resolution where text is easy to read. 1080i looks pretty but text is extremely small. 720p the text is larger and easy to see but is very fuzzy and not easy on the eyes. I guess this has something to do with the pixels on a tv being farther apart than that of a computer monitor. It's a 32" LCD TV. I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable (Non-Unibody Macbook Pro).
