Intel Mac :: What Is The Difference Between Copying And Duplicating Photos
Apr 16, 2012
What is the difference between copying and duplicating photos on a Mac. I'm trying to move them to a separate HD but only the new folder appears and I can't seem to move the photos.

For some reason, when I upload pictures onto my Mac from my camera, it makes duplicates of the photo, sometimes even 2 duplicates. This is very annoying as I have to go through my library deleting the duplicates. Is this a known problem?

I had around 300 photos on my iMac, (running OS X Mavericks), and whenever they I open them, or sometimes on random, they will duplicate themselves. I started with 300 original photos and by the end of 3 month, i had 5000 photos!!!! I have taken my computer to the Genius Bar 3 times and they have tried, but had no luck in fixing this image-duplicating bug. Last month, I painstakingly deleted all of the duplicates manually (as duplicate "finders" only found around 60 duplicates) and then though that they wouldn't duplicate anymore. Now, one wonth later, I have 2496 photos!!!!!!!! These photos are not in iPhoto.Â

Is there a simple way for me to copy my photos in my Iphoto so that I can put them on my wife's macbook? I want to keep them on mine also but she is wanting them too. I could just download to her computer from the camera they were taken on but they would not be edited and I want her to have the edited version.

I recently moved from PC to iMac, and I can't sync all of my music from my shuffle to the Mac. There's one tune that I copied from a CD that is now kaput. Is there a way to move the good version from my shuffle to my iMac? When I try to play the track from iTunes, I get a message similar to this: "The song 'xx' could not be used because the orignial file could not be found. Would you like to locate it." I tried "manually manage music" but I couldn't make that work. Everything else threatens to sync with my iMac iTunes which will wipe out what I want to keep. Oddly, iTunes has done this to a large number of my tracks almost all from CD's I own, rather than from compilations people have given me. So, to redo my iTunes list I will need to reinsert lots of CD's.

I've seen the Intel X25-M 160GB SSDSA2MH160G2R5 for sale, as well as the SSDSA2MH160G2C1 for sale, what's the difference?
Edit: apparently R5 is retail and the other is OEM, I'd double check it though.

Files on our network are duplicating themselves, not only once but multiple times. When I click on the original file, a QuarkXPress 6.5 file (we have also had this happen with Indesign CS3) the file duplicates, then opens in the native program. Our network (server) is Windows based, just switched to Leopard 10.5.6 and we are running AdmitMac v4.0. This problem started when we began using our new Leopard systems.

I imported an album (11 songs) as I normally do and the import behaved as it was supposed to. About ten minutes later, I notice iTunes is duplicating songs that are already in my iTunes on its own! How do I prevent this from happening again and is there a way to delete the duplicates other than going through my library and deleting them one by one?Â
I caught it before it duplicated the entire library. It's bad enough that I now have to delete about 500 songs!

All of a sudden, iTunes is duplicating my movies. The duplicates are appearing in the same folder with the original, but with different cover art, and an "HD" symbol after the name. This is taking some serious hard drive space, which will run out before it gets very far. This is going to be a pain to fix, especially as I've chosen my cover art carefully, from old movie posters, etc. So, why is this happening, and how can I remedy it, aside from not using iTunes?

I was transferring images from my Transend 32 GB memory card when halfway through something happened and only half the images copied properly. The other half are greyed out, I cannot view the thumbnail and when I try to do anything with it it says "one or more of the items in "IMG_9203.CR2" can't be changed because they are in use. The memory card is empty now and I can't figure out how to get back my images!

I've just set up a new account on my new macbook.
Is there a way to get all the settings, bookmarks and email accounts and mail into the new mac account. It gives you a blank computer. But I'd like to have Mail and Entourage setup the same way as the original account with all the saved emails.
And also to have all my bookmarks from Safari. And what about retrieving particular documents? Seems like there must be an easy way.
Also, is there a way to switch back and forth without having to type in the password each time?

I've recently starting having problems with my external HD that I use for my Time Machine backups. I'm not able to repair the drive using Disk Elements, so I want to copy some of my backups stored therein onto my Mac HD before I try reformatting the external HD. However, I get the error message "The volume has the wrong case sensitivity for a backup" when I try dragging the backup folders onto my desktop. Is there any way to salvage the backups before I try reformatting? Â

i'm doing an assignment for my degree and i've drew up a table and a description of how someone partaking in a study of mine should fill in the table.
I need to duplicate this page 11 times so that I can have an individual fill the stuff in and I can print them all out.
I can't find out how to do this as the tabs involving thumbnails of the pages only allow me to copy all of that pages and not just the graph one.

So I admit to fiddling around with the iPhoto folder in my Pictures section before I knew that was a bad idea. Basically I was trying to move pictures out of my iPhone library into another folder on my computer so they would be out of my iPhone library on my comp and my phone.
Anyway, now for some reason there are duplicates on my iPhone in the Photos app but not in the iPhoto app on my Mac. Any thoughts on what the hell I did?

Since 11.2 and 11.2.2 came onto the scene my podcast adds another of each episode to my iDevices on every sync. Only the unwatched/unlistened to episodes. Â
Example. I have 30 unwatched podcast, I sync, I now have all 30 on my iphone. When I sync again. I still have 30 unwatched, but now my iDevice in the sidebar shows 60 podcast. Adds another 30 every sync. Â
Fortunately as best as I can tell, It is not physically duplicated the file or the title entry on the iDevice. I don't see my data bar graph at the bottom grow either. Â
iTunes Library is served from a 12TB unRaid server on 1Gb network. Worked fine until 11.2. Â

My 120 GB internal Hard Drive is finally full. I click on the finder and I go on to see where
it is so full:
Pictures 13,47 GB
Music 15,64 GB
Movies 23,55 GB
Documents 15,05 GB
Applications 1,05 GB
Desktop 18,48 GB
Then also, igmolinav (the only user of this laptop and represented by the icon of a little house) has 35,37 GB. I never go directly to the user igmolinav, but he takes up 35,37 GB, or almost one fourth of the hard drive's capacity. I don't know a lot about how computers work, I just fear that some information may have been duplicated, and I need really need to free up a bit the hard drive.

I was trying to discover what was eating up all my disc space on my 11 inch MBA. After doing some research I discovered over 30GB was being eaten up by a particular type of file in "/users/username/library/mail/V2/mailboxes/recovered messages/89AF938B-6B1D-44AC-9E37-158CF278B361/DATA/3/messages". I found 288 ".emlx" files, all duplicates of one another, each is 112MB big. And they continually copy themselves.
Looking at the dates, the first file in the folder was created 12/02/2012 and the most recent file in the folder was created roughly 15 minutes ago on todays date of 23/02/2012. In fact while inspecting the folder, I saw before my eyes them being duplicated. Because I had one of the files highlighted, then began to use safari for a few minutes, and when I came back, there were more of the things underneath the one which I had highlighted!
The files are email files, and they are all copies of a particular email I sent using iPhoto. I sent an album of about 25 or so photos through the iPhoto sharing feature. So is iPhoto or Mail backing up this email over and over again for some reason? They seem to copy themselves only when both iPhoto and Mail applications are open at the same time. I know this because I have experimented with it and can see more and more being created.
