I can't load a CD/DVD into my drive as it appears blocked? I can confirm 100% there is not a disk in the drive. Interestingly I updated my software and the drive worked again (once) allowing me to enter a drive then ejetc it soon after? when i tried to reinsert it again blocked it!? FYi I've tried leaning my IMac on angles etc still to no avail.
i am trying to load ms office 2011 on to my imac. when i insert the disc it spins a few times then ejects it without loading. i have tried loading cd's and they load ok but when i tried to load a different dvd that had loaded ok in the past it did the same thing and would not load! i have checked all of the settings and they all appear to be ok.

Rookie questions:
Is there a way to use your iMac drive to load programs over to your MacBook air?? Also, can you remotely ( from MacBook air ) transfer files from your iMac???
After re-opening that giant graphite egg, re-plugging in the cd drive and making sure all of the wires were properly plugged in too, and getting a new kind of hate inside of me for apples quality of construction, I have gotten the disc drive reading again. However it will still not boot off cd.
I just want to upgrade to tiger and it won't let me do so, I can't even find the CD drive in the boot options. but the strange thing is that the os x tiger cd is selectable in the startup disk options, but on boot with the boot menu it does not show up.
is there anything i can do (preferably without spending any money, or very little) or am I stuck with os x 10.3.9 for the rest of my life?
also I'd like to do a clean boot, after all I bought the computer used, and it has a bunch of junk files on it that I'm too lazy to search for and destroy myself.
plus the thing still thinks its named after the school that used to own it, and I'd like it not to.
my cd drive will not load disks, they just slide in and nothing happens. i thought there was some way to turn off the computer and press a few buttons to reset something...
My wife's MacBook no longer recognizes its built-in hard drive. When I do a cold restart it simply gives a folder icon with a question mark. I can boot into an external disk drive (10.5) but Disk Utility and the demo version of Drive Genius does not recognize any internal hard drive.
I just purchased a used MAcBook Air 2,1 however it did not have a hard drive in it. I purchased a Solid State replacement drive (Mercury Aura Pro MBA), however I cannot get it install Snow Leopard (Legal copy with a license). I get all the way through the install (Country, etc), but when it asks me where to install the SSD does not show as an option only the drive that has the DVD in it.
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo, imac 6,1. I bought it used with Snow leopard already installed. I partitioned the disk and attempted to load Tiger 10.4.6 install dvd, but as soon as I put in the disk I get this message : "Mac OS 10.4 can not be installed on this machine". This black faced disc did not come with my computer.
I was watching a video on Hulu, and suddently I got a error that the website could not load. Since then, I can't load most pages (yet oddly I have found one page that still works.) Network diagnostics says that everything is working fine... and I can still connect to everything just fine with with my MacBook and iPhone on the same network. I have the same problem whether I am trying to use Safari or Google Chrome..
I am hearing a loud noise on the fan of the imac and it is ejecting a lot of air. In the year I used it it has never happened , even when it was hot the back. is it normal?
I'm learning HTML and tried the first example given in the course but it won't load in safari. Any ideas why? I've written it in TextEdit and tried saving in .HTML and plain text with no joy.
I have currently acquired a few old Macs. I have got an iMac G3 SE with a slot loading drive. The computer is fine all barr the slot load drive - it has died. I have also got a PPC Mac Mini with a suggested logic board failure.
Does anybody think there is a chance i could replace the broken slot load drive in the iMac with the working one from the mac mini? i don't want to start opening the iMac up if someone already knows theres no chance it would work.
This old unit needed a bigger hard drive, so a friend gave me a Hitachi 60 GB drive he didn't need and I installed it. He told me that it was formatted for MS-DOS and that I would need to reformat it for Mac OS. I'm pretty sure that I did accomplish that using Disk Utilities in the Installer program.
I put a OS 10.4 install disk in and tried to boot from it. My problem is I'm getting a screen alert that says, "This software cannot be loaded on this computer." I can either restart (what good is that?) or go to "Startup Disk" where I choose the install disk (or Network Startup) and click on Restart. Then I choose English as the main language and bang! - right back to the wonderful, "This software cannot be loaded on this computer."
I just put in a 320gb 7.2K HD to replace my MacBook's 120GB. I'm wondering how to check the load and unload cycles of the new hard drive?
Also, I've got all my stuff on my 120GB drive while the new 320 is in my MacBook with a fresh install of Snow Leopard. I've got a hard drive dock that connects via USB. Can I somehow get all my files off of the 120gb drive without switching the drives out?

updated firefox today and tried to update os x 10.4.11 combo update (ppc). I tried to install the update after downloading, but it quit and said it had been moved to the trash and I could open it again in finder. I tried this but it quit, giving me the standard error message. After that I rebooted and then it never booted again. Only the blue apple screen and nothing else.
Then I booted pressing the S key... it opened up a terminal like screen and at present it says Failed to load extension com.driver.AppleMacRiscPCI.
My PowerMac thinks the optical drive is open. No matter what I do, I cannot get the disk inside to load and I cannot open the drive to get it out. I'v tried f12 several times and have eject in my menu bar.

new iMac 21 load from internet and install last update my operation system. after reseting computer - gray screen and animated icon, operation system dont load. safe mode -
I am new to mac computers but have an Iphone and a ipad, both of which i have no problems connecting to the exchange server. My IT guy said Imac cannot connect to the exchange server for mail. Seems like it should be able to do it. I've tried every which way but nothing works.
I was tempted to put this in the 'Safari' section, but after a little more trial I thought it went deeper than that. The issue is, for about two weeks now, i'll be surfing the web and then head to one of my commonly visited websites (namely Wikipedia, Google, Huffington Post, and this website) and though I'm fully connected to the internet, the pages won't load and i get the "Server Not Found" noitce.Â
I don't, however, have this problem with ALL webpages when this is happening to the others. Gmail, Facebook, Mediaite, etc. all have no issue and they work just fine. Â
Primarily I use Google Chrome as my browser. So the first thing i did was clear the cache to see if it would help, but nothing changed. So i opened both Safari and Firefox and they both suffer the same problem. After about 60 seconds the issue goes away and all things are normal again. About 10 to 15 minutes later, if I'm still surfing the web, the problem may creep back up again. I can't say for sure but I've noticed that this typically happens when I first try to go to those pages after a few hours of not using the net.Â
When this happens, I've also tried loading these pages on my iPhone and iPad during the 60 seconds and have encountered the same problem. Using a Wireless internet connection thru a cable modem.
I was using Safari on my iMac, but suddenly started to go slow, with the typical multicolor ball. After this, and because i cannot do anything more with the computer i tried to restart it, but never finished the process.
Finally I restarted the computer manually, but after that appeared a folder with a "question" mark on loading screen. I tried to start the computer on Safe Mode, and was possible. Then I checked the hhd with disk utility and appears ok.Well, i tried again to restart and the computer seems to load IOs, but finaly still on a blue screen with a working wheel apearing at times.
Then i restarted again on safe mode to try to do a new backup (the computer was going well, and i was so stupid to use the backup hdd for another use) but when it's only at 200mb, more or less, time machine says that there is an error and stops.
I want to use a disc with a Windows based application but it loads directly to Mac. How do I get Windows/ Parallels to recognize the disc drive first?
I have a Mid-2011 iMac running 10.7 right now.I partitioned the boot drive, creating a new space so I could load up 10.6 (in an effort to be able to play my older Diablo II and Warcraft games) but my retail CD version is not working. I did some research, and found that this is because my hardware is incompatible with the oldest versions of 10.6. What I am confused about, when reading through threads, is how can I get around this? Is there a way I can load up a newer version of 10.6 (like 10.6.3 or newer) onto this partition? Do I need an older Mac to do this (right now both my laptop and iMac are running 10.7 but I could always borrow my Mom's laptop for a bit since she is running 10.6.x)? Since I have a legal version of 10.6 I assume there is a way to do this, but I am not sure how to approach.
Basically, my iMac can't load [URL] on Firefox, Chrome and safari. Â
It first happened when I use the firefox address bar to google something. The web page didn't load and said "The connection was reset: The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.", Then I try it on Chrome to go to google.com. The web page didn't load and said "No Data received: Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data."Â Then I try it on Safari. The web page didn't load and said
"Safari cant open the page [URL] because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again."
Some of the basic application like textedit take much time to load (10 secs). Instead in Windows such application opens instantly.I am having 4GB RAM in iMac and I can see around 40% free(unused)
So I'm aware I have to reformat my Mac.... That's not my biggest issue here. My issue is I lost my snow leopard OS X while I moved and want to know if I could buy the $30 disc cuz I have everything BUT my OS X disc unfortunately.
