IMac Intel :: Unable To Get Second Monitor Detection And Resolution

I bought a Viewsonic 22" monitor to use along side my iMac when using CS4 and I do a lot of photography. Now the problem is that sometimes my iMac recognizes it as VA2213w and other times it see it as VGA monitor. When is sees it as the VGA monitor the resolution changes a bit, even though it has it on its highest setting 1920x1080 @60hz. I'm using a mini dvi to VGA adaptor as the Viewsonic only has a VGA plug. Could this be the issue? As I have read a lot of the problems here and they seem to be all pointing to the adaptor. If so then why does my iMac sometimes see it as VA2213w monitor and then on other times as VGA. I'm doing nothing to the display other than switching on in the morning.

IMac Intel :: Can't Get Full Resolution On External Monitor
I have connected my iMac to an external monitor via an MINI DISPLAYPORT TO VGA ADAPTER.

The external monitor is an AOC N22W which when connected to my PC can give me a max resolution of 1680 x 1050.

However, when I connect it to the iMac the most I am getting is about 800 x 600. It gives me resolutions up to 1400 x 1050 in the list but when I select these resolutions it still looks like low resolution (no more than about 1024 x 768 at a guess).

IMac Intel :: External Monitor Only Giving Low Resolution Options?
Just picked up a spare 30" cinema HD display and have decided to use it as a second monitor for my iMac 27".

I've hooked up a mini display port to dvi connector, problem is the 30" is only giving me the 1280 x 800 and lower resolution options.

How can I get it to display at the full 2560x1440?

MacBook Air :: Resolution Detection With External Display?
1. It does occasionally work. When working my ideal resolution is 1900 x 1200, although my MB Air shows it is running at 1920 x 1200...close enough.

2. When it does work, it seems to list both the native and external display settings in the display preferences

3. Usually after a reboot and reconnect, the resolution reverts to 1600 x 1200

4. I cannot seem to manually change this setting...their is no 1900 x 1200 or 1920 x 1200 option.

5. Detect settings does nothing.

MacBook Air :: Unable To Use 30" LG External Monitor Resolution

I wanted to use it with my Macbook Air Summer 2009 (2.13Ghz, 128GB SSD, Nvidia 9400M) as an external display. I bought the Mini-Display Port to DVI adaptor and hooked it in to the monitors DVI cable and the resolution won't go higher than 1280x800 (the same resolution as the MBA's display). MacBook Pro :: Unable To Set Native Resolution On External Monitor
I have a 13" mbp (9400m), that absolutely refuses to acknowledge the supported resolutions of my external monitor (NEC 2490WUXi). When connected, the monitor model is correctly identified in the "Displays" preferences, but I am limited to lower than native resolution of 1920x1200. I am not sure if this is a hardware or software issue, but after various testing, I believe it is a hardware issue, possibly concerning how HDCP is implemented?

Here is the behavior I have noticed under various configurations:

Using a mini-displayport to dvi adapter (tried with apple and monoprice variants):

Cannot set resolution to higher than "720p". This is with the monitor's "HDCP Mode" set to "on". If the hdcp mode is set to "off" the display is not recognized and no picture is displayed. It seems as if the monitor is being incorrectly recognized as a TV, as the tv options tab is also available (can set overscan off or no)

Using a mini-displayport to vga adapter (apple brand with latest firmware):

Am able to set maximum resolution to 1920x1080 (this is given as a resolution number, not "1080p"). A number of resolutions not available when connected via dvi are available, but am still not able to set output to the monitors native resolution.

I have mirroring turned off, reset pram, tried using the monitor as the main display and secondary (using arrangement tab), rest the monitor to factory defaults, booted the mbp with and without the monitor, and deleted display preferences. Apple phone support was unable to resolve the issue either. I have verified the monitor operates correctly using a dell notebook connected via VGA.

I am running OSX 10.6.1, which was done as a clean install. I am officially out of ideas and very frustrated. My only other option is to take the monitor and mbp to an apple store and see if it can be resolved there. I consider that a last resort effort since hauling the monitor will be a chore. I also believe my 90 day support will be ending soon.

IMac :: Use Eizo S2242W Monitor 22" Widescreen Model With Resolution 1920x1200?
After taking advice here and there, I have decided to go for a dual monitor set up on my late 2006 iMac 24inch. I want to use the Eizo S2242W monitor which is a 22inch widescreen model with a resolution of 1920x1200. I will use this for photoshop work and I want the set up to allow me to use my internal iMac screen to display photoshop controls and the picture I am editing to appear on the properly calibrated Eizo. I believe this is called extended mode or some such. I need to know if this is possible with the mac I own and if there are any additional connections I will need to buy to make it work. The screen has a DV input and I believe my mac has a mini dv output but I'm not sure what this means for me.

Power Mac G5 :: Reset Monitor Resolution Supported By Monitor?

This was working fine through a dvi-vga adaptor until I switched the monitor resolution from 1920X1080 to 1360X768 which is not supported by the monitor .....blank screen. I plugged another 19" monitor into the other output on the card and both work fine but as soon as I remove the 19" the 52" reverts back to the unsupported mode. I have reset the pram and tried booting in safe mode but that did not help me. From bootup the 52" works fine until just before the login screen, then it switches resolution......blank screen. MacBook Pro :: Unable To Use Custom Resolution For Tv / Best Resolution For An LCD HDTV?
So i'm trying to figure out the best resolution for using my macbook pro in clamshell mode. I think ever since i installed snow leopard the new resolution choices i have are not longer pixel x pixel, but actual TV resolutions, such as 1080i, 720p, 420p. In the past I've used SwitchResX to do custom resolutions for my tv but that dosnt seem to work anymore.

I'm trying to find a resolution where text is easy to read. 1080i looks pretty but text is extremely small. 720p the text is larger and easy to see but is very fuzzy and not easy on the eyes. I guess this has something to do with the pixels on a tv being farther apart than that of a computer monitor. It's a 32" LCD TV. I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable (Non-Unibody Macbook Pro).

IMac Intel :: Video Quality And Screen Resolution
Can someone point me to a good thread that discusses video quality of a movie display on the latest iMac screens? I am planning on purchasing an iMac and am wondering on how good iTunes movie rentals, Blockbuster DVD movie rentals and purchased DVD movies are going to look on my future iMac screen. I understand that Apple has geared the iMac screens for movie watching because of the recent change to the 16:9 sizes and the introduction of movies in iTunes. I also understand the resolution to be very high on the screen, but not sure how I am going to take advantage of this, with respect to movies.

I just bought a 27 inch iMac and I'm trying to decide if I should bring it back for the 21.5 inch iMac. The small fonts and small images with the higher resolution display were a bit of a surprise to me. If the 27 at 1920x1200 resolution is as sharp as the 21.5, then I'll just keep the 27. IMac Intel :: New Imac Core I7 Monitor Has Left Side Darker Than Right Suddenly
I've had the machine for nearly two weeks now and I wake up this morning and boot up to find that the left side of the screen is noticeably darker and almost has a yellowish tinge as compared to the absolute white right side. This discrepancy is most noticeable when viewing brighter or white material such as the background of any website or text document. This is simply unacceptable for a new machine I just shelled out for. It was working one minute and now I find that the display has this split hemisphering problem where the left side is darker than the right when viewing brighter or white material.

I have apple care thankfully. I need this issue resolved... is there something I can do on my end to recalibrate the monitor so that both sides are displaying properly? Is there a software update coming that can fix this problem? Is it really necessary to replace hardware? Do I get it repaired or replaced? How much would it cost? How long would it take?I trust I'm not alone on this one. I've spent the last two weeks getting my machine up and running and I hate the idea that I'm going to have to send it away for long or have it replaced. What's the word regarding this issue? It's driving me insane now.

OS X :: Which Resolution Monitor To Buy For MacBook?
I'm looking for an external monitor to plug my macbook into. Mainly working on Aperture, Microsoft office, and web surfing. Not watching movies or gaming on it. With my budget, the only IPS monitor I can afford is the 22" Dell ultrasharp. It comes with 1680x1050 resolution (or close to that). Also, its non-glossy, and I prefer glossy. Alternatively I can get a plain vanilla 24" TN monitor with 1920x1200.

I do need the extra screen estate, which is why I decided to buy a monitor in the first place. I frequently have to refer to multiple documents at the same time while working on Microsoft office, and Aperture would certainly benefit from more space. All these resolutions are new to me, my current desktop PC is still running on 1200x1024. Is there a significant difference moving from 1680 to 1920? Is it justified to lose the IPS feature (which gives better color and viewing angles, I've been told).
