IMac Intel :: Unable To Connect To Internet

I have an Imac with OSX 10.6.4 with wireless and ethernet capabilities that is having issues connecting to wireless. The wireless network that I am trying to connect to has a WEP key for a password, and I've heard macs have some issues with the WEP/WPA encryption, so I'm looking for any information I can on that. The error that I am getting upon logging in is that the "Airport has the self-assigned IP address 169.254.7.168 and will not be able to connect to the internet." I'm getting an exclamation point over the wireless icon in the menu bar that says I have no internet connection. I checked my roommate's macbook for the IP address and information and saw that the IP she is getting is different than the one I'm getting. The MAC address she's getting is different too. So when I type in the IPv4 address (under TCP/IP and Configure IPv4), as well as the IPv6 address, the orb next to the Airport turns green and says I am connected to the internet and I'm getting full bars of wireless access. Unfortunately, I'm still getting a "cannot connect to the internet" page in Firefox and Safari. That's why I'm thinking it's a WPA/WEP encryption issue. Something about the encryption is keeping me from connecting fully. What are the steps I can take towards getting connected? Or at least changing the encryption settings?

IMac Intel :: Brand New Computer Unable To Connect To Internet
I purchased my new iMac on Monday, December 21, 2009. I was able to connect to the internet until today. Well, I did shut my computer down because I was out of town for a few days. I have an Apple Time Capsule. I also have an Apple iMac G4 that I am using to send this message. For some reason, I am unable to connect to the internet using my new iMac. It connects fine to my TC. But, when I try to surf the net, (even on Safari) I have no luck.

OS X Tiger :: IMac Suddenly Unable To Connect To Wireless Internet?
Neither Firefox nor Safari connect, now - just give me a spinning working signal until connection times out. Have tried rebooting router (Linksys WRT54G), cable modem, etc., to no avail. I am able to connect directly with Ethernet cable, and Windows laptop connects to the wireless without a problem.

Internet Connect indicates that I have a signal - about 2/3 signal level is all I get on my local network these days, but it's there.

IMac Intel :: Won't Connect To Comcast Internet
I just bought a new iMac(after not having one for about 8 or so years) and I am trying to connect it to the internet. My previous computer was a Dell connected to an Arris modem (no wireless). When I connect to the iMac, it is saying that the ethernet cable is not connected, even though it is. If I plug it back into the PC the internet works fine so it shouldn't be the ethernet cable. I called Comcast- tried doing the power cycle, resetting, etc. with no luck. Called Apple and they tried as well. They were afraid it could be the ethernet port since nothing would work- so they had me send it back and sent me another new computer. I tried to hook the new one up last night (did a reset of the modem before I did) and still no luck. Called Comcast again and they are telling me the modem looks fine. Does anyone have anything else I can try? Really want to use the new mac

IMac Intel :: Full Signal - Can't Connect To Internet Occasionally?
I have read through the topics, and not sure if my problem is the same as the iMac 27 inch problem, though the solution does not seem to concern my problem Fully connected to the internet via router, never previously had problems, but in the last two months, I have realised that even at full signal strength, I cannot connect to the internet or sometimes, exceptionally slow internet speed. According to the Network Diagnostics, Airport is working fine, joined the router network etc, yet just next to the Internet, it is a red dot, i.e. not connected. ther computers (Windows based) in the house are working fine. When my internet is running slow/disconnected, nobody has downloads running, other computers are running at regular speed/connected, just mine with the problem. At first, when it just started to run slow, I just thought our router network was being used by some outsider/downloads were running, after resetting the router, finding out no downloads are running, I am not sure what the problem is. suspect my Airport is broken? Not sure how, but. Not even sure what is wrong now, sometimes it would connect for five seconds and then disconnect for a few minutes before connecting again and repeatedly do so for hours. Yet it can run smoothly without problems for an entire day. So, anyone else had this same problem before? Any solutions?

IMac Intel :: Turn On Internet Sharing / Connect To Wireless Printer
In my home, I am currently using the built-in AirPort in my 2010 iMac to create a wireless home network so I can share my internet connection (connected to mac via ethernet cable) with various wireless devices in my house (my eReader, handhelds, my guest's laptops, etc.)... I also have a wireless Brother laser printer (HL-2170W) to which I would like to be able print from my iMac via the printers wireless capability (as the printer is on the opposite side of a large basement home office)...

Right now I am able to go in and turn off Internet Sharing and connect to the printer, but it is a pain to due this each time. Can I connect to the printer wirelessly and still broadcast/share my internet connection with my other wireless devices (my eReader, handhelds, my guest's laptops, etc.)? I don't mind having a minor, short-term interruption in my shared internet connection while my iMac sends data to my printer, but I hate having to manually turn off internet sharing and then having to change my network settings each time I want to print...

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Connect To Internet Via Ethernet Or Wi-fi / Internet Connects In Safe-mode
I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro, and today I've been unable to connect to the internet via ethernet or wi-fi, unless I'm in safe mode. Then everything seems to work as it should, which makes me believe that this is a software issue rather than a hardware problem. I've tried making a new account with administrator priveleges, but that doesn't solve my issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can connect to the internet under my normal user account, rather than in safe mode? I should note that I won't be able to get my hands on my repair CD or perform a clean install of OSX because that stuff is at home, and I'm in college. Also, I'm at a university and don't have a router. I just use the campus-wide wi-fi. Finally, my roommate has no problem accessing the internet in our room via ethernet or wi-fi, but I do. Thanks for the help everyone.

Now I am trying a linksys wre54g extender and it seems to be the same thing. Ive spent entire days working on this. I dont know what to do. IMac Intel :: Unable To Connect With Certain Sites?
I'm using an Intel iMac 20" that's about two years old. I recently moved, and ever since the move the computer seems to have had trouble connecting to certain sites -- Paypal, Amazon, In almost all cases, the problem arises after I have entered a username and password for the site to get to a secure area. Instead of the a properly displayed site, I simply get a very basic HTML page with no images, only text on a white background, as if the connection hasn't been fully made.

It's also caused problems with my music downloads from Amazon. Only some of the songs download, while others never start.I'm on a network with a Belkin wireless-G router, the same one I used before I moved. I have reset the router and cleared my cache several times. The two other computers on my network -- an HP laptop and a Macbook Pro -- are not having this problem.

What might be the cause? Is it a firewall setting on my iMac that I'm not aware of?

OS X :: After Browsing - Unable To Connect With Internet
Anyways, i used to have a Linksys wrt54g router. It was hooked up and had an SSID of linksys. Later replaced it with i think the wrt110n or whatever the 110 draft N model number is. This router was set up and the wrt54g taken down (no longer plugged in at all). The wrt110n has an SSID of hawkes, and everything works fine but after browsing for an hour or so I will loose internet connection.

When I click the airport icon in the status bar it tells me that I am connected to a network called "linksys". I have to then click to reconnect to hawkes which is the network that I should be on.

Now I'm not sure if there is someone else broadcasting an unencrypted wireless network with the SSID linksys and my mac is just trying to connect to it at times or if it is getting confused and trying to connect to an old network?

I'm wondering if anyone has had similar problems or if anyone knows how I could tell the airport utility to "forget" about old networks with the name linksys so it will stop trying to connect to them?

OS X :: Unable To Connect To Internet Or Wireless Printer?
I was happy to get my mac pro yesterday, but upon setting it up, I couldn't get it to connect to my network. When I clicked I the airport logo and the top right, it said airport was on and I was connected to the network. However, when I opened up Safari I got nothing...just a screen that said something like "you are not connected to the internet." The last time I had a macbook, I turned it on and bam, I was connected to the internet right out of the box.

After trying to fix it for 30 minutes, I decided to reset my modem/router. After doing this, the macbook connected to the internet for a few hours and I went to bed. Now I come home today and it works for about 30 minutes and then stops working. Keep in mind, my PC is working flawlessly so I know my network is up and running. After about 30 minutes, it connects again...and then stops working again. Very frustrating. As I type this message, it still wont connect to the internet even though the computer says I'm connected to the network.

Another thing that makes me think there is a hardware problem is that the macbook wont connect to my wireless printer. I've installed the software 2x and right after going through the install procedure, it will print for about one minute and then it does nothing - I get a message that says something like "your printer is not on or not connected to the network." So then I went through the steps of connecting it again and again. Every time it would ask for the password to the network so I put it in and it says I'm connected....but nothing will print. After the 3rd time, I was finally able to make it to spit something out wirelessly from my macbook...but 5 minutes later it's back to saying my printer is not on or connected to the network. This is weird because initially it works and then it stops. During this whole procedure, my PC recognizes it just fine and prints within 5 seconds. For some reason the mac just wont do it.

I thought macs were supposed to just work, but this laptop has been more frustrating than any PC I've owned. Here I am with a new macbook that can't connect to the internet OR my printer. Granted, I know very little about computers so maybe I'm overlooking something simple.

If it's a hardware problem, do you think Apple will refund my money?

There are 2 other computers in the house (Windows based, don't know if that's go anything to do with it) and they both connect just fine.

Software :: MacBook Unable To Connect To Internet?
My girlfriend's MacBook (OSX 10.4) recently decided to not access the internet. I have a Linksys wireless router with 2 PC's connected (via ethernet). She usually connects to the router using her built-in AirPort. But, a couple days ago, she was surfing the internet and clicked on a page, and she got the whole "You are not connected to the internet" window. Usually this is no big deal, just a quick power cycle for the router and we're back on track. This time is different. Not only does she still see the router (192.168.1.1), and can access it, but even when she's hardwired via ethernet cable the Macbook can't access the internet.

I love tech'ing things out, and am a real geek for troubleshooting. But, I can't figure this out for the life of me. My other PC's can connect wirelessly, and surf the internet with ease. But, her Macbook seems as if it just doesn't want to access the internet.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Connect To Wireless Internet At All
I got my macbook pro about one month ago, and couldn't get it to connect to my wireless internet at all. I finally figured out it needed to be WPN instead of WEP. It has worked great for a couple weeks, but now it is painfully slow. I have an old PC that works fine, as well as my girlfriends macbook pro. I have run speed test on all three computers wirelessly and though the ethernet cable. The other two computers are running around 10,000 kbps, and my computer is running between 200 and 2000. I have tried doing open DNS, and have had no luck that way. I am at a loss. The computer works fine every were else besides my house. So I have ruled out the cable internet, the router seems to work fine, and if I'm not at my house the computer works fine. The people at Apple, Comcast, and Motorola, seem to be know help since each can claim their product is working fine.

OS X :: Unable To Connect To Internet / Settings Changed By Another Application
I am connected to the internet via a belkin N+ router..... this is in turn connected to an adsl modem...I am having no problems with the signal to the router but at least four times a day my internet disappears....

When I run Network Diagnostics hey presto, your internet is working fine....The only things I have changed recently was that as I am running osx 10.4.11 I was having that issue where you couldn't access Network in sys pref, it kept saying "your settings have been changed by another application", I found a solution on here whereby you delete the plist prefs and rebuild them... That worked a charm but now I'm wondering is this connected in some way....

or...

I got software from the makers of the belkin N+ wireless usb dongle chip that came with my router (belkin don't provide osx support but said that I could get a utility from the chip makers) I installed this but it never worked so uninstalled it, and ran disk utility and safe boot and pram and fsck (everything I could think of)

I only have one location in network, and airport is the only active network port

any ideas...????

OS X :: Unable To Browse Internet - Trying To Connect For Long Time
So to preface my problem let me just say that ive got my own macbook which works on the same wireless network with no faults at all, so i assume its not an error with the networking hardware. For xmas i bought my parents a macbook, recently (not sure how recently as theyve only just told me its happening) they can be browsing the web then all of a sudden the internet takes ages to load, it stalls on 'trying to connect' for a long time (40+ for each web page).

Ive tried using firefox and the same thing happens so it looks like its not safari specific, during this time i cannot ping google.com through a terminal either or if i can the response time is unbelievably slow. Now, ive tried disabling ipv6, ive set the dns servers to opendns and none of this has fixed it. if i click on the airport utility and turn it off and the back on it fixes the problem for a short period of time before it happens again.

I followed the guide over in the MBA Forum to forward the right ports in order to access my USB hard disk over the internet. I can access it on LAN just fine, and it all goes swimmingly until I'm asked to enter the "Private IP Address" of the device. The guide states to enter an IP address in the fashion of "192.168....", but as you might be able to tell in the picture, the first three octets of my address field are greyed out and unchangeable, and only let me enter an address in the form of "10.0....". Following the guide to the end is futile, and device connection doesn't work as advertised. Am I missing something? Is my problem clearly with entering the wrong IP, or what.
