IMac Intel :: How To Connect External Speakers

I'm connecting external speakers using RCA cables from the speakers to the headphone jack on my iMac. When I do so, under Preferences--->Sound--->Output, the "Internal Speakers" changes to "Digital Out" as I believe it should.

However, I am getting no sound from the speakers (which work fine with other devices). The "Mute" button is not checked and I can't figure out what the problem is.

I'm running 10.6.5 and the speakers are M-Audio Studiophile AV40.

IMac Intel :: Unable To Add External Speakers To IMac
I have a 24 inch flat screen iMac. I'm trying to add my Klipsch external speakers to the iMac. The speakers have a sub-woofer that gets plugged in. The other audio jack is plugged into the iMac's headphones port (I've tried the audio port as well).

For some reason, the iMac goes silent, but no sound comes from the external speakers. The speakers worked fine with my pc. I've gone to system preferences -> Sound-> and verified that the Output is "headphones". I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

IMac Intel :: No Sound From External Speakers
I am having a problem with my external speakers. I have a pair of JBL Creature II speakers that I have that don't really work well with my iMac. They are connected to my iMac with an audio cable plugged into the headphone jack. This is the only way to connect them to anything, they do not have a USB or any other connection. The speakers have a low hiss all the time, and have a pop that happens every 5 seconds. When you go to play a song from iTunes, you can hear it, but it's really faint and sounds distorted. When you play a video in Quicktime, you can hear it, but it's even quieter. Both the computer and the speakers are plugged into a surge protector.

I know the speakers work, because when I plug them into my iPod or anything else they sound great. I have already tried to do all of the usual stuff reset PRAM, restart, permission repair, etc, and nothing I do works. Speakers did not work in 10.6.0 to 10.6.3. System originally came with 10.6. I've been trying everything else I've read here on the message boards and I can't find a fix. Here are the specs for my Machine: iMac 9,1 - 20", 2.66GHz, 4GB, 300GB, just updated to 10.6.3 Anyone have an idea on what can be done (besides buying new speakers)?

When my speakers are plugged into my iMac there is a popping sound that occurs about every 15-30 mins. I plugged it into my iPhone and so far no popping sound. Anything I can do? ITunes :: Airplay Can't Connect To Remote Speakers Or Multiple Speakers When Speakers Are Visible In It
I have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date.  Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue:  After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes.   The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect.  If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.

When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility.   You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.

In addition I plugged in a normal analog audio cable (red/white) in the "audio port" (Mac) and the respective analog port of the TV (corresponding to the HDMI input). IMac :: External Speakers With Crackle And Electronic Pop
I have just bought the Acoustic Energy Aego sat/sub speakers for my 24" iMac...and excellent they are too. A huge improvement on the built in speakers. However, I occasionally get an electronic 'pop' or crackle from the satellites. Only happens occasionally. If I plug the speakers in to my iPod (2nd gen) all is perfect, so I assume the iMac is picking up interference from the mains or network and passing it on. I assume my options are to try a better gangway adapter (or UPS) with noise filtering, or perhaps (but this seems a bit overkill) a USB audio output device rather than using the iMac audio out. I cannot begin to describe just how much better the AE Aego's are, but the interference is annoying...

IMac :: High-pitched Frequency With External Speakers / Connected Via Firewire Audio Interface
I hope I'm not double posting. Have any of the other new iMac owners experienced weird frequencies coming from external speakers that are connected to their iMacs?

For example: I have a set of studio monitors that are hooked up to my iMac using a firewire audio interface. Whenever I'm copying data I get an extremely high-pitched frequency coming from my speakers that sounds like my hard drive spinning. Also, whenever I'm scrolling or moving the magic mouse I get a loud buzzing coming from the speakers (especially when scrolling). None of this stuff happened with my previous 20" iMac C2D. I have experienced this issue with all three of the 27" iMacs that I have gone through thus far (due to the yellow tint issue). Does this sound like something I'm just going to have to live with. All of these high pitched frequencies are driving me batty!
