OS X Leopard :: Very Slow Startup On IMac Running 10.5.6
This morning I noticed that my iMac is VERY SLOW to start. I have not made any recent system changes. I am running 10.5.6 but have not seen any problems since it was installed. I have zapped PRAM, unplugged machine, verified disk, and repaired permissions. But nothing has had any effect. I am considering either Archive & Reinstall or restoring to before I added 10.5.6 from Time Machine (any way to tell the date I upgraded to 10.5.6)?

Intel :: IMac Won't Startup / Get It To Work?
I'm hoping someone can help me. I returned to my computer and moved my mouse and it froze on the screen saver. I had to restart. Once I restarted my iMac would no longer turn on. It loads to the light blueish screen with the apple and the circle of lines and stays there for a few minutes with the circling of lines spinning and then the computer just shuts off.

IMac Intel :: I5 Fan Noise And Slow Startup
A month ago I got my brand new iMac i5. After a couple days the harddrive crashed. I finally got it back after 3 weeks for repair. The shop changed my harddrive. Now when I start up it takes 1 minute and 30 seconds. [Hard Drive] and the harddrive fan is running at 2500 rpm at startup. The speed increases by the minute. [URL]. I've now been using the computer for about 15-20 minutes and the fan speed is 4157 rpm. I've only been using Firefox. From previous experience I think it could be the heat sensor that is glued to the harddrive. Really don't want to send the machine away for another 3 weeks.

IMac Intel :: Slow Startup After Deleting Windows Partition
Last night I installed Windows XP on my iMAC 24" running Snow Leopard by making a partition in Bootcamp. I then installed the same thing on my old Macbook (which is where I initially wanted it but was having problems so thought I'd test on my iMAC). I consequently deleted the partition on the iMAC using Bootcamp but now my iMAC is def much slower starting up. I went into disc utility and cleaned up the empty space but that didn't help.

OS X :: Imac Running Slow / Can't Clean
I am an absolute Mac virgin I have never used one before this is my first experience with them. We bought a imac for our daughter purely for the virus free factor and the computer just looked so good the graphics etc.

Anyway we have had the system now for over a year we all love it and have worked out the basics. My problem is that lately it has become very sluggish and jumps out of Safari a lot, Safari closes unexpectantly. It takes ages for even Word or anything to come up. What can I do to clean it up and make it run faster again. What do I go into.... I need the hows, wheres and whats?

I have the 20inch intel imac running leopard. Out of nowhere it started going very slow, spinning wheel every other click. Then just freezes. And now I can't start the computer again. Intel Mac :: Running Very Slow And Sometimes Won't Start
I have an iMac intel from 2009.. the computer is used only for simple internet exploring, word documents, emails... etc. The hard drive has 140GB of free space, and I have erased the free disk space with 1 pass. The computer runs SO slow to the point where it's almost unusable. To me, it feels like a memory issue, even though the programs that are used require very minimal memory... I tried ejecting the RAM stick blowing on it and popping it back in, but no luck...  It has 1GB of ram total.

IMac Intel :: System Running Very Slow / Fatal Hardware Error Reported To Disk Utility
I usually run Final Draft, iTunes, and have my Firefox browser open while writing which has been fine in the past. Recently my computer has been running very slow so I decided to re-install OS X. After doing so the computer runs like new, but after installing Final Draft again I tried to repair the disk permissions and received the message, "this drive has reported a fatal hardware error to Disk Utility." I ran the extended Apple hardware test and no errors were reported.

Should I be worried? Are there any other tests I can run to ensure my hard drive is okay? Please bear in mind I'm not the most Mac savvy.Has anyone else had to pay for a hard drive repair through Apple out of warranty, and if so what was the damage?

Power Mac G5 :: Running Slow At Startup And Stuck In Login Loop
I have had my computer for four years. My computer is running oddly slow at startup. It eventually gets me to login screen. I put in login, then it flashes a few screens very slowly then ultimately takes me back to login screen. I cant get past that point. I have even done a safe boot, but still loops me back to login screen on safe mode. I haven't downloaded anything in weeks. I was using on night, when i woke up. It was very slow moving. Then froze. I could move the mouse around but nothing was reacting. I had to unplug machine, and when I turned back on, start up was very slow and thus started my login loop.

OS X :: System Running Very Slow / Hangs At Gray Screen Ion Startup
Macbook Air, Rev A. Worked like a charm for 1.5 years.Upgraded to a Rev c SSD and gave the Rev A to the wife. She installed NOTHING.Within a few weeks it started running VERY slow. I'm talking 2 minutes of beach ball per click.I use Disk Utility to check the drive. No problems of any kind.

Rebooting would take -- and I'm not exaggerating -- over an hour. First it would sit with a grey screen for 5 minutes. Then with an apple logo for 10 more. Then with the little spinning circle for 30. Then the desktop background would show up and sit for 20 minutes, etc.

Was gonna upgrade to Snow Leopard so what the heck, backed it all up and installed Snow Leopard. To my surprise, it instaled Snow Leopard on top of the old OS -- it kept all the files around so no need to restore from backup.

Speed problem SOLVED!Then a few weeks later the same problems. This time I check the drive AND run the hardware test. No problems.I ERASED the entire drive. I installed Snow Leopard. All is good for a few weeks. Then the problem came back a 3rd time.

I go to reinstall a 3rd time and Snow Leopard doesn't even acknowledge that there's a hard drive in the machine! And when I look in system profiler it says there's no drive of any sort. Yet it will reboot and run... just VERRRRRYYYY slowly.

I'm ready to replace the drive with a Runcore SSD or some such other device but I want to be sure the problem is the drive and not some other aspect of the hardware (motherboard, RAM, etc.)Anyone ever seen this? Anyone have any ideas as to how to investigate, solve, conquer, save myself from madness??

Intel Mac :: Very Slow Startup And Very Slow Response Time When Doing Tasks?
recently my Mac is really slow, slow on startup(took around 1-2hours), and slow on task(more than 5 minutes delayed time on every single task), I don't know what happened to it,

My Mac specs:

1.Mid-2010 27 inch iMac,

2.Original 4g Ram upgraded to 12g

3.1TB HD has got more than 400gb free space.

4.i3 processor

5.Using latest Lion(I think it's 10.7.3)

Problems:

1.Startup tooooooooo slow, take more than 1 hour

2.Extreamly slow on tasks. Without any apps opened, every single click, it turned into the 'colorful fan', for instance, open finder, it took more than five mins, and it's not only the finder, it's EVERYTHING!!!!

What I have done so far:

1.I have reduced the login items

2.I have changed the password login to the automatic login

3.I have tried verify disk permission, verify disk, repair disk permission and repair disk

4.Unplug all unnecessary items(monitor, external drive etc.)

5.Run couple of time of 'clean my Mac', get rid of all the trash.

6.Cleaned the cache

Due to the ridiculous, frustrating startup, that's all I could do, however, none of them worked.

Now I am using recovery HD to reinstall Lion from a disc, but I don't know if it'll work or not.

I don't have another Mac, I don't have backups(don't want to lose my data),that's my situation.

IMac Intel :: Serious Slow Down - Takes Minutes For Each Application To Work Properly And Sometimes Not At All
We're having a serious slow down problem with our iMac. No matter what program runs, it takes minutes for each application to work properly and sometimes not at all. Every subsequent command made within each application takes even more time to respond. We have 50GB of hard drive space left (out of 160) and 1 GB RAM and haven't installed anything recently to have caused the slowdown. We've reset the PRAM and repaired permissions but to no result and we're doing a thorough backup now and hope that someone can give us the next move.

Aperture :: AP3 Running Slow - Cannot Work With Brushes On Zoom
For the last month I have been using Aperture 3. I love all the new feature and I want it to work. I have own Aperture since version 1.5 and the story has always been the same. I use it for a while until I become very frustrated with its poor performance. When Aperture 1.5 came out I purchased a MAc PRo with all the bells and whistles just so I could run Aperture 1.5, after a few month I became very frustrated because its poor performance and I was forced to move to Lightroom 1. When Aperture 2 came out I was very excited thinking that Apple would finally figure out how to get Ap performance right. Once again, after a few month I was forced to switch back to LR 2. Aperture 3 finally came out and it seemed to be a dream come true.

Its feature sets rock, but once again, after one month I may be forced to switch back to LR 2. How many are running Aperture 3 with good (or at least acceptable) performance. I am running a MAC PRO 2 x2.66Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xenon with 11GB of memory. Aperture library and images (referenced) are in a RAID system (same place). The video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT. I am running Aperture 3.01 on Snow Leopard 10.6.2 with all the updated installed. Ap3 is running so slow at times that going from image to image after adjusting one it may take up to 5 seconds (enough for the beach ball to show up). AT times it even slow down the system. Forget about working on 100% zoom with any of the brushes. I just can't buy a new MAC PRO with every new version of Aperture, and, last time I did that it didn't make a difference, anyway.

IMac Intel :: Can't Find Startup Disk?
I've been using my Intel iMac for years with no issues. This morning I woke up to find the screen saver frozen, so I rebooted the computer and I got the flashing "?" Folder. I zapped P-Ram, I waited, nothing. I put in the OSX disk and tried to diagnose the problem. I am pretty savvy with Macs and troubleshooting so I wasn't TOO scared...until... Disk Utility could not find the hard drive, it only listed the DVD. Startup Disk also only recognized there being a DVD. System Profiler also did not see any hard drive. Pardon my French, but ***! Only things possibly related, but I really don't think so: 1. Last night I copied my iphoto library to an external drive and got rid of my internal iphoto library. This saved me 46 GB. It worked just fine of the external, so I doubt this is related. Before bed, I set up my Filezilla application to transfer files, using FTP, from a website I'm working on to my hard drive. Hard drive space isn't an issue because of reason #1. It was taking hours to copy the literally thousands of files, so I left it going when I went to bed. Not sure how this would be relevent, but that's evrything I can think of.

OS X :: My IMac Running Slow
My PPC G4 iMac is slow as hell. I plan on upgrading soon enough to a newer iMac but in the meantime I'd love to recover some speed. I know i have a woefully low amount of RAM - 768 to be exact - but apparently I'm stuck with that. It was running better in the past but with time things just slowed to a crawl with minimal things open - Mail, Safari and maybe Word and Excel. I gave up trying to run PS Elements 3 on this machine. That just makes me want to scoop my eyes out with a spoon.

I run iClean regularly, I have my desktop clear of clutter. What can I do in the interim before I buy the new iMac to help things some? Or am I just S.O.L. and just be patient and wait for the new machine?

Why Is IMac Running Slow
My iMac is running slow and sometimes freezes. There shouldn't be a problem with memory (6GB); the backup HD is a 1GB WD and backup is run via Time Machine. Backup seems to run OK but there is an enormous drain on CPU usage and the process takes forever.

Since I've only noticed it on one account, I'm inclined to think it's a corrupted user file or something.

IMac Intel :: Freeze Reboot - Can't Find Startup Disk?
Four times in 24 hours, when I jostle my Mac out of sleep mode, any open applications hang. I cannot force quit -- the finder hangs as well. So I have to power down and reboot. At which point I am greeted with a question-mark-in-a-folder icon at center screen, and the iMac will not startup. I resort to starting up with my Jaguar install disk, then try to run Disk First Aid -- but first aid cannot find my Mac to repair! It doesn't find it as a "Startup Disk," either. What gives? The only way to fix things is to shut down (vs. restart) from the install disk, then let the computer sit idle for 30 seconds, then hit the power button and reboot. That seems to do the trick after a few tries.
