IMac Intel :: How To Open Firewall Port 6112

I was just wondering how to open firewall port 6112 without having to touch forward the modem. I've read hat I can do it on firewall pane, but I don't have a firewall pane tab on my "sharing" section. I do have my firewall on, but is there anyway to open the 6112 port without disabling the firewall itself?

IMac Intel :: Use Of Firewall In System Preferences?
On an iMac 2.66 GHz, Intel Core duo running OS 10.6.5, is there any downside to having the "security firewall" turned on in "system preferences"? I recently read an article suggesting that one go to "system preference", enter "security", and turn "firewall on". I am now wondering if this prevents system updates or any other useful functions which I previously got automatically with security set to "firewall off". I could not find anything in "help" which told me what this feature actually does although it sounds good offhand.like a lot of great things which often have future unforseen adverse consequences.

OS X :: Open Port / Port Forward Leopard Bizarre?
Here's the deal, I am so frustrated. I am trying to open port 59152 for Transmission on my Macbook Pro. I have the latest releases of everything, I am using an Airport Extreme base station with an older airport to boost my signal/connect my tivo w/out a wireless adapter.
I have managed to get it open in the past but there was an update or something a month or two ago and at first it was still open and then it closed. I don't know what changed with the update, all I know is that I did n't change anything.

I have granted permission for Transmission to accept incoming connections on the firewall, little snitch allows it too. I have lighthouse, which worked at first but now I don't even know why I bother having it run. I have the port mapped through the airport utility.

PLEASE don't say to go to portforward.com because they haven't updated the Airport section since Leopard came out, yet every search I do someone repeatedly tells the person needing help to go to [URL]

I am going to attach some screen captures so you can see what I've got going on and maybe point out something I've missed.

IMac Intel :: Safe To Have OWC Add ESATA Port To 2010 IMac?
OWC is currently running a promotion called the "OWC Turnkey eSATA Add-On/Upgrade Program for iMac 27" '2010'" I love my iMac but because I use it in a music studio I could REALLLY use the extra eSATA port. For $169 (excluding shipping), that's a pretty darn good deal.

I've never heard of an upgrade-port option like this for iMacs. Is it safe for me to pay OWC to do this or is it a risky move for my machine? I trust OWC a great deal but obviously it's not like I'd be having Apple install the port themselves. Any opinions, fact or references you can share with me about this one, please do.

IMac Intel :: Simultaneous Audio Output From Both Mini Display Port And Audio Output Port?
I was wondering if someone who already has audio+video output through the mini displayport set up can be so kind and answer the following questions for me:

Can audio be output simultaniously from 3.5mm audio port as well as the mini displayport? That is, if I output both video and audio to my reciever through the 2010 iMac's mini Diplayport, can i use the standard audio output port to provide line input for a further set of (active) speakers (analog would be fine)?

In the case both outputs CANNOT work simultaniously, which one will work if i have both plugged in? If the mini displayport has higher rank (or priority or what whatever i should call the one that works when both outputs are plugged in), and the reciever it is plugged into is switched off, will audio automatically switch to the standard audio port? Same question goes if the standard audio output port has higher rank/priority?

Xserve :: How To Open Ports On My OS X 10.5.7 When Firewall Is Off
I have configured an OSX 10.5.7 server in standard mode on a PowerMac G5 2.5Ghz dual core and 5Gb RAM with the XServe firewall set to off from the initial installation. The server is behind my dedicated firewall, and I do not need the OSX firewall.

But my problem is that I cannot log in to the server with ARD, using the latest client that has been installed appropriately on the server, and is recognized in the ARD panel. ARD works for all the other workstations on the LAN just fine.

I ran port scan from the network utility app on the server after determining that ports 3283 and 5900 are required for ARD. To my surprise, Port 3283 is closed, even though Firewall is definitely turned off. Port 5900 is open.

IMac Intel :: Why Only One FireWire Port
I am preparing to buy another IMac I have noticed for the first time since purchasing my last Imac that there is no only ONE firewire port....why? I mean is this not a step in the wrong direction as the IMac's continue to outpace every other computer on the market as the best computer out there? Granted there is still no comparison in my opinion (except for other Apple products). Yet all this does is force us users who are into video production and utilizing both an external drive and our cameras simultaneously while editing, to purchase a hub. I can't imagine why Apple would do this. Does it increase efficiency? Does this help in bringing down the final price (which has never really been of concern to Apple anyway)? What is the deal?

OS X Leopard :: Trash Firewall Preferences And Open Individual Ports?
I've been having a problem with Apple Remote Desktop, and I have a thread going in that forum: [URL] It seems like my problem is rooted in the Firewall. When I do a port scan from another computer my port 3283 is not open. IMac Intel :: How To Port All Data From MacBook Efficiently
I have a MacBook that currently houses all my photos (iPhoto), movie clips and projects (iMovie), and music (iTunes). I would like to keep the MacBook, but also upgrade to the new iMac. What is the easiest method I would use to port all of my data over to a new computer? Ideally, and I don't know if this is possible with Macs, is I would move all of my data to an external hard drive connected to my TimeCapsule and allow either Mac to use the same data set. Therefore, when I'm doing quick photo editing I can do it from the MacBook, anywhere in the house, and when I want to work on a larger project I can sit at the iMac but still access the work completed from my MacBook. As easy as Macs are to use, I have always found the sharing of data between users or computers to be a bit of a mystery. Can two Macs work together?

IMac Intel :: Air Port Card Not Installed?
I have had my brand new imac for about 4 months now. It worked fine up until 2 months ago. My airport card would just dissappear. Now the icon is not grayed out it is just not there. When I click on it, it says there is no airport card installed. I know there is one because when I 1st started it up I could connect fine and every now and again it would work. I just came home one day and found that it said no airport installed. I really don't understand what the problem is. I have taken it to the apple store twice and both times I was told It was fixed but after maybe a week I would do the same thing. I just got my computer back on Monday and today I cut it on and once again no airport installed. It is really frustrating because I am going to be taking online classes in Jan and I really need a computer that workes the way it is supposed to. IMac Intel :: USB Port Low Power Notice
Last night I plugged a USB key into my iMac keyboard, as I've done 1000 times before. However, this time, for the first time ever, I got a USB Low Power Notice. In the year and a half I've owned this iMac I have always used the keyboard's USB ports to plug in USB keys and I have never received this error (and yes, I've used this particular USB key before as well). So after a round of troubleshooting, I ended up plugging the keyboard into one of the other USB ports and my USB key, still plugged into the same slot on my keyboard, magically started working. Long story short, two of my three USB slots on the back of my iMac seem to be providing an adequate amount of power to my keyboard's USB ports, but one of them isn't any longer. Plugging in my USB key directly to that USB port on the back works just fine, but plugging the keyboard into it and then the USB key into the keyboard does not work.
