I'm trying to find out why my iMac only has 7GB of HD space available. When I do a Get Info on the Macintosh HD it says Capacity: 499.76GB Used: 492GB Available: 7.41GB. However when I view the contents, the largest folder is Users which is 206GB. After that the second largest is 26GB and they then get much smaller and don't even add up to 250GB. Where is all the rest of my HD space? There are some files on the Desktop but they are just a few Mb. Is there a piece of software which will show any hidden folders? Information: iMac 24inch/3.06Ghz/10.6.4 iPad 16GB/3G Powerbook 15inch/867mhz/10.4.11

I know this is a really basic question but I've gone round & round trying to find out how much disk space I have left. I can't seem to find out where this information is found on my Mac. It has been a bit slow lately so wanted to see if it's getting close to capacity. Was wondering whether to use something like Cleanmymac which I had heard recommended by a gadget guru. I see that Apple is offering it as a download (which seems to be free) and Macpaw have a trial for free or you can purchase it for a small fee. What would be the difference? IMac Intel :: Can't Find Info About 6gb Ram
I just bought the 6gb kit from OWC and installed in my santa rosa imac 7,1. Everything runs fine. But I decided to run a benchmark to see if there was any difference from my 4gb kit. I wasn't really suprised but the 4gb kit from OWC beat the 6gb kit big time. I did the same test with geekbench both 32 and 64bit 5 time with each set of RAM and the 4GB kit won. The memory bandwith was a lot higher with 4GB and the memory performance was better with 4GB. Is this due to the 4GB being dual channel and latency 4 and the 6GB being latency 5 single channel or does the imac just like 4 better than 6 meaning is it not capable of using all 6gb of RAM. I am running snow leopard and all 6GB show up in activity monitor and iFreemem app. Information: imac 7,1 Mac OS X (10.6.2)

I know the 27" iMac is equipped with Airport. My iMac is currently connecting to the internet via ethernet cable. Can other in-home wireless devices connect to the internet using the iMac's built-in Airport? In short can the iMac be used as a router or must a routher be part of the mix? IMac :: Won't Find Info For Apple Remote
my parents have an iMac (not sure of the exact model except its maybe 2 or 3 months old). Anyways, it's kind of in between the living room and the kitchen and is used often (among other things) to play music in those two areas using iTunes. I was wondering if the Apple Remote Control would work well... the only catch being that the remote is IR and that the position of the computer means that a lot of times, the remote would be facing the side and backs of the computer. I doubt the remote would work but I also heard that the remote's IR is very robust.... is it strong enough to be able to used from these angles (im assuming by bouncing the signal off walls or something?).

Intel Mac :: Can't Find Info Stored On Desktop
Had a storm with a power flux and mac went down. Started it back the next day. Ran a first aid on the hard drive system first (all icons on desk top worked fine, showed all software installed, all documents, etc.) Everything checked out. I have an Iomega external hard drive attached to use as back up. When I ran the first aid on that the system froze. I turned the computer off, waited and then rebooted. Everything came on again, but this time, my screen saver was the original one, not the one I use, all the added icons from the desk top bar were missing, back to the original ones loaded at time of purchase, all my documents are missing, as in everything except for my pictures on the hard drive, all the info stored on my desk top, everything GONE. NO sign of where anything went. The system seems to work fine as far as that goes, but there is none of the materials from the past 5 years of use. Can't even find my emails from Apple, nothing. That's all gone as well. Called up Apple support but because the warranty is no longer in effect, will have to pay for service. Am ready to do that if this fails. IMac :: Won't Find Info To Hook Up External Monitor To 24"
Is there a way to hook up a external monitor to the 24" iMac as in the same way you can do with a macbook pro? Reason being is that I want the 24" iMac and I want to do photo editing. I'm getting mixed reviews on it due to the glossy screen. Some say yes and others say no. I have a 21 inch LCD display that I am not using. I was wondering if I can use it when I need to edit photos. I can't afford the macbook pro that I want so my next option is the iMac.

I have a Macbook PRO 17" with a 160GB hard drive. When I click on the "Macintosh" icon on my desktop and "get info" it says that my capacity is 148.73GB and that I've used 134.28GB only leaving me 14.45GB of availability. For the life of me I can't figure out how the 134GB is calculated. If I click on my username and "get info" the folder size is 103GB. So where is the other 30GB used up at?

My HD recently died and I replaced it with a Western Digital 500 GB Caviar Green. I installed the OS X system and downloaded the software updates. Then I installed the Snow Leopard system and downloaded those updates. When I checked the disk on Disk Utility, it says the capacity is 499 GB, availability is 396 GB, with used GB of 103. I have not installed anything on the disk except the operating systems. That seems like an awful lot of capacity to be taken up by the operating system. When I select the RAID tab of Disk Utility, there are 5 choices: Mac OS Extended (journaled), Mac OS Extended, Mac OS Extended (Case sensitive, Journaled), Mac OS extended (Case sensitive), and Mac-Dos (FAT). Has anyone with a 1TB HD noticed if your system runs slower due to the larger capacity of your hard drive? My iMac's (early 2006) 250GB hard drive just died a few days ago and I need to replace it but am unsure as to what size to go with. I already am hooked up to a 1TB MyBook external drive for storage and backups, but will having a 1TB as the primary drive affect performance in any noticeable way? The price differences are almost negligible (in my eyes at least) between 500GB - 1TB, and I don't really NEED 1TB. My internal hard drive capacity is shown at 249.58 GB and I only had about 1.97 GB available. I moved 122.89 GB of photos to an external hard drive partition plus many seldom used files and folders (not sure of the MB or GB size). Now my hard drive capacity shows 249.58 GB size with 2.36 GB available. Having moved more that 122.89 GB off my internal hard, why do I not have at least 122 GB available because I moved the photos to free up that space on my internal hard drive? How can I regain that space the photos used and/or why can't I regain it? Information: iMac (Snow Leopard) and MBPro (Snow Leopard) Mac OS X (10.6.2)

IMac Intel :: Cannot Burn To Blu-ray Drive (Zero KB Capacity)
I've got an LG BH08NS20 blu ray burner in a NexStar-DX external 5.25" SATA enclosure. The enclosure connects by USB to the back of my iMac (2008 version, I think). My iMac can see the drive, and inserting a 25GB disc causes Finder to pop open a window asking how to proceed (ignore, eject, OK). Finder also sees the disc as an "untitled DB" disc. But, I can't burn anything to it. Choosing get info shows that the media capacity is "zero KB," so any time I try to burn anything causes it to say that I am trying to place too much content on the disc. System Profiler shows that burning is supported with generic drive support, but Disk Utility says that the drive has an unsupported burn support. Information: Lots Mac OS X (10.6.3)

I have had my trusty iMac (the snowball one) for 6+ years now and have loved it dearly. It has an 80gig hard drive that is about three quarters full. I have other things stored on an external hard drive, and have been using a 200gig external for Time Machine. Anyway, I am about to splurge on a new iMac. Going for the 21.5 inch one, but putting 2T hd in it and as much ram as possible. My question is: what will time machine need for back up? For the past few years I have been using a 200gig external for Time Machine (I also have a 500g one for extra photos and music). It will be quite a while before I have even 100 gigs of stuff to back up with Time Machine. So can I continue to use the 200 gig external for TM? Should I use the 500gig instead? Or am I going to have to buy a new external to equal the 2T? For what it is worth, I plan to keep my snowball iMac and use it to store some documents or photos that I do not need to access often? Ive got a late 07 iMac with a 250gb hdd. It's about 2% from capacity and is starting to freeze a lot. I've bought a 500gb seagate USB hd and want to know how I can install so that it effectively expands the storage to 750gb, rather than just being an external hd. I want to be able to store all my video and music files on it so that it frees up my internal drive, but still want to be able to open them using iTunes etc as normal. Does this make sense? I've noticed a weird issue with my new 27" iMac. I'm trying to monitor my wifi networks using the Wifi Radar and iStat Pro widgets, however nothing is showing up on either. Wifi Radar does not see my network and iStat doesn't show any throughput. Activity Monitor displays the information correctly but the others do not. I thought this might be a Snow Leopard issue but they work fine on my MacBook. Maybe it's just a software issue with the new iMacs? IMac Intel :: Recover User Account Info To External Hard Drive?
My brother has a 20" iMac with Leopard installed. The internal hard drive failed and was pronounced dead by the Apple Store. It will not boot up at all. Of course he had no Time Machine backup. He went ahead and bought a 1tb external Firewire 800 LaCie drive that I went ahead and installed Snow Leopard. iLife, etc., on and can now boot his iMac off of the external drive. Question is how can I recover the data in each of his 4 user accounts such as documents, iPhoto, iMovie, iTunes, etc. Finder is able to recognize the internal drive and I can navigate into the user accounts and copy some of the data over. The problem is that most of the folders have the red circle with a line through it and does not allow me to open or copy over to the external hard drive. Obviously, this is because I am not logged in as that appropriate user, but I can't since the internal hard drive is not bootable. How I can retrieve individual user data without being logged in as that user? Information: iMac 24 2.66 Core 2 - Macbook 2.4 Core 2 Mac OS X (10.6.1)

I have a 13" MacBook Pro, 2010. I thought my capacity was supposed to be around 10hrs, I realize at totally optimized settings. Well, It seems no where near 5. The time till empty jumps around and makes no sense to me. Instead of searching around for exact problem with my configuration or my settings... I have recently heard someone say that the keyboard on 2010 17'' Macbook Pro is improved over the previous version, specifically that it won't "gloss" from normal use (as all keyboards do after some use, this is visible when you view them from extreme angles opposite of light source).
