Hardware :: Unable To Use Dual Monitors / DVI (female) Connected To VGA (male) Adapter

Sep 5, 2009

I've been trying to connect my MacBook to my Dell monitor. So, first I bought a mini DVI-VGA cord, but realized that I had a DVI not an AVI connection. In order to save time and money, I bought a DVI (female)-VGA (male) adapter. Everything fits in and connects perfectly. The problem is: when I turn on my Dell monitor nothing shows up. It says it's on safe mode and all I have to do is press a key on the keyboard or move my mouse. I do that, but it doesn't detect anything.

I know my laptop detects the monitor because when I go to display --> arrangement, I see there are 2 screens and display --> Gather Windows, a window for the Dell does pop up. From my understanding that once you plug in all the cords from your Mac to your monitor, it should work right away. So whats wrong with my dual screen? And how can I get it working?

IMac :: Where Can I Find A FEMALE MiniDisplay Port To FEMALE HDMI Adapter

Dec 30, 2009

Tell me if it makes sense. Since the current MiniDisplay Port adapters are NOT bidirectional and we need a bidirectional cable to make the PS3 display on the iMac, I was wondering if I purchased that new bidirectional cable by Belkin that it is advertised to let you use your iMac's screen with your MacBook Pro and then buy a female minidisplay port to female HDMI.

Would that work? It makes sense right?

Where can I find a FEMALE MiniDisplay Port to FEMALE HDMI adapter? I have searched and can't seem to find one.

Mac Pro :: Unable To Work With 4870 Dual Monitors

Jun 16, 2010

I have an issue with my 4870 (Mac edition) that has been occurring since day one (when I purchased it last month), but it's not something that happens every single time.

I've run into a problem that the 4870 has trouble recognizing one or both monitors plugged in. If I shut off power to my displayport-connected main monitor, it'll throw the menu bar, all the desktop items, and application windows onto the second monitor (DVI-connected). This also happens when I shut off the second monitor (desktop items and app windows get shuffled to the main monitor).

The other issue is that on startup, it may just be slow to recognize one of them, and the above screen-swapping issues happen anyway, followed seconds later by the screen once again being recognized.

Mac Pro :: Unable To Use Dual Monitors / No Signal On Both DVI Channels

Jan 10, 2009

After lots and lots of reading I went for flashed Sapphire 4870 512 off eBay for my Mac Pro 1,1 running SL 10.6.2, with two Viewsonic VP2030b. The guy selling the card had sold flashed cards before and had 100% feedback, said the card worked with dual monitors and supported SL. Got the card, installed it without a problem, but could not get it to work with both monitors.

Second monitor said no signal on both DVI channels. Checked all the wires, reinstalled, rebooted, no luck. Plugged both into my 7300GT, no issues at all. At one point, I got the left monitor to boot as the extended desktop, showing the dock but not showing the HDD or icons (which should be on the right screen), but the right screen still showed no signal and was black. Used the gather windows botton in the display preferences to see if adjusting settings helped, still nothing. Detect displays button was no help either. Is this a compatibility problem on my end or a flashing problem on his? Contacted him and he said he had no issues with his MP 1,1 and two 20" Apple displays.

Has anybody else faced this issue? Is there something that can be done? This shouldn't be happening, right?

Mac Mini :: Unable To Get Display On Dell Monitors / Using Standard VGI Cables Connected To VGI Port

Apr 3, 2009

Can anyone suggest what should I do with Mac Mini 1,83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and my two new Dell monitors?I tried them using their standard VGI cables connected to a VGI port on a Mac Mini - both are dead. Not a single flicker.

My Mac bought from a trusted friend and acts as a practically new machine - but not with my monitors.

P.S. I went through several Mac-related forums and there's abundance of issues with "alien" monitors.

Mac Mini :: Unable To Get Display Via Tv / Connected Mini DVI To Video Adapter

Mar 28, 2009

Just a warning, I bought a Mac Mini (2009) and wanted it to hook it up to my TV. My TV does not have HDMI or DVI inputs so I bought a Mini DVI to Video adapter from Apple. But I could not get it to work, then I googled for it and it seems this adapter does not work with 2009 Mac's since it does not output an analog signal anymore!

So anyone that wants to hook up his new Mac to an older TV set with the Video adapter, you are warned.I guess i'll have to buy a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and then a VGA to SVIDEO converter..

OS X :: How To Use Hot Corners With Dual Monitors

Sep 12, 2009

Does anyone know how to get hot corners to work on dual displays? I had a monitor plugged into my MBP 2.5ghz and after changing the relative location of the monitor in display settings, left of main screen to top of main screen, the lower left corner would allow me to access Expose for the applications in the current monitor, instead of exposing all application windows on both screens. This feature is very helpful though I cannot repeat it. Is there a certain orientation of the monitors that will allow each screen to have it's own hot corners functioning for that screen of was this just a fluke?

it would be nice to be working on one screen and watching a movie on the other without the movie expose ing when I only want to expose the applications/windows on the monitor who's corner I accessed.

Intel Mac :: How To Set Up Dual Monitors For It

Mac Pro :: Getting Kernel Panics When Monitors Connected

Apr 8, 2008

I've been using my new Mac Pro with no issues for several weeks with the same hardware setup & OS all along. Suddenly I'm getting kernel panics. It happens when I startup from the system drive or from install disc. And sometimes when I startup it just hangs on the blue screen with no desktop coming onto the screen. It started happening after I did a Carbon Copy Clone of my system drive onto a firewire drive, & when I came back to my computer several hours later the screen was black & white stripes. I've been on the phone with apple care several times and even took my machine to the genius bar today where they recommended a stress test and said I would get it back in 5 - 10 business days (gasp!). Of course there were no kernel panics while I was there (for an hour, and at home I'm getting them every few minutes), so I decided to take it home & check it over myself in a process of elimination.

I've removed all third party ram, and have 2 hard drives installed - the system drive & the drive I use for time machine. The RAM is listed as OK in system profiler and the HD's are verified with Disk Utility - also disk permissions verified & repaired on the system drive. I have 2 Acer monitors - model AL2016W. I tried plugging in one at a time in each DVI port for a total of 4 tests - each with a fresh startup. There were no kernel panics. Then I plugged them both in at the same time, started up, & got the kernel panics. Tried this twice with the same results. With or without any applications open, it's the same. Within 2 - 4 minutes I get a kernel panic when both monitors are plugged in. Later, I got kernel panics with just one monitor connected. So my question is; What could be the reason it's getting kernel panics sometimes & sometimes not? As I said, nothing has changed in my setup since I got the machine - and everything was running fine since mid February.

During my testing I have these connections:
One or two monitors. Power cord. Apple wired keyboard & mouse (these were not connected at the time this started happening so I have eliminated them from the possible source of trouble.) All bluetooth devices are powered off & no other external devices are connected. I just completed the Apple Hardware Test & it detected this error: "4HDD/11/40000004.SATA(0,0)" Does this mean there's something wrong with a hard drive? If so, which one?

Mac Pro Early 2008 2.8 Mhz 8 core
OS X 10.5.1
2 gigs original "apple" RAM
HD 1 - Samsung F1 (system - 750 gigs of which 420 are being used)
HD 2 - Hitachi (time machine - 1 TB)
2 Acer monitors DVI

Windows On Mac :: VM Fusionware And Dual Monitors

Aug 29, 2008

I am a web developer, and we are a Windows shop, but many of us are moving to Macs since we can run both OS X and Windows on the same machine. Well my work is purchasing a Macbook Pro for me, and I'll be hooking up an external monitor to it to replicate the dual monitor setup I have now.

As I learned in the OS X forum, I'm able to specify which programs I would like to launch in which "Space" upon boot. My question is, is VM Fusionware compatible with a dual monitor setup? As an example, could Space "1" contain my OS X desktop on both monitors, and then if I switch over to Space "2" which has VM Fusionware running with Windows, will the windows desktop span both screens as well?
