Hardware :: Tethered An SE W705a?
May 28, 2009
I'm looking to buy a Sony Ericsson W705a and I'm not certain whether tethering will work or not. SE's site says that it'll work on Windows if you install the PC Suite, but there is no mention of Mac support.
In Sys Prefs > Network > Bluetooth > Advanced there's an option for Sony Ericsson "GPRS (GSM/3G)". Has anyone tried this with a W705a? Is it likely to work?

Does anyone know if there is any way to set up the Apple Remote for tethered shooting with a DSLR (basically, just a shutter release button)? I'd specifically like to use it with EOS Utility, but I'm open to other tethering software solutions.
I know there are apps for iPhone/iPod Touch that will do this, but I was hoping to make this work on a very basic level with the Apple Remote.

I am traveling through the US for a few months and have an LG handset that can be tethered as a modem to a computer. When I was given the handset a few months ago, I plugged it into my MBP (running Leopard .8) and the network preferences immediately recognized that the handset was connected although I couldn't do anything with it at the time. I activated the handset today at a Verizon store and have now spent over two hours trying to make it work. My MBP won't recognize the handset. I downloaded the VZ Access Manager software and tried an auto detect but it's also not seeing my handset. It doesn't show up under the System Profiler either.

I am in India with a cell phone that has an unlimited data plan and legally allows tethering and has blue tooth. I am trying to connect to the Internet through the cell phone using blue tooth to my Macbook. I can "pair" with the cell phone but cannot connect. My new Macbook is running Snow Leopard
I can see the Nokia 7210 by clicking on the bluetooth icon upper right on the Mac. I can see the Macbook in the cellphone and click on connect in the cell phone.
Then the cell phone says "connecting to Macbook" followed by "service not supported by other device".
I have clicked on every combination I can find in blue tooth preferences on the Mac but can't get it to connect. Under blue tooth in the Mac it says paired but not connected.
Sometimes the Mac asks for a user name and pass code for the cell phone and it also asks for APN whatever that is. The owner of this cell phone tells me there isn't any username or passcode necessary and he has successfully connected through Windows notebooks without so using.

I travel every week and each week I have to decide whether to use my tethered iPhone (not jailbroken) or the hotel Wifi. I pick which ever one seems fastest.
What I would like to do is combine both of these connections together and get better speeds. Or possibly assign one connection to one application (skype) and the other connection to firefox.
