I recently got the HP C4780 printer free with the rebate deal. It says that it can two-sided print, but the option is grayed out. Any ideas? Everything else seems to work. Anyone else having this issue or have any ideas? My next move is to download drivers from site, but I hope I don't have to reconfigure the printer, so I am holding out for a few.

I have a Brother 5280DW printer which is supposed to offer duplex printing. I have an IMAC running the latest Leopard, but there seems to be no option anywhere I can find to choose duplex (double sided) printing...
anyone have any ideas or guidance?
Have a Duplex Printer and we recycle paper that already has one sided printed (wife's a teacher - lots of paper). Our MacBook Air defaults to two sided printing and I can not change this. I understand that if you remove the printer and reestablish it, the "two sided printing" option will once again show up. For other document printing it does not.

I would like to print a copy of my Nikon D90 instruction manual which is saved as a PDF.
I'm trying to figure out how I can print a booklet using the least amount of paper. My logic was to have two pages to one piece of paper. My printer cannot do automatic duplex so I would have to print using odds and then evens.
Therein lies my problem � if I am printing odds it'll turn out that Page 1 & 3 are printed onto one page together.
So how would I go about printing Pages 1&2 and then 5&6 etc and then when I do the manual duplex it would Pages 3&4 and 7&8 etc
I'm not sure if I'm making sense but hope someone can help � it's 300 pages which I could then print on 75 pages.

have a new macbook 13" with intel processor running OSX and use HP deskjet 970CSE that allows for automatic duplex printing on multi-page documents. The duplex printing option is unavailable and is greyed out. I have tried to access the function with the standard OSX drivers and after downloading the HP drivers to no avail. I am looking at upgrading my printer to a EPSON WORKFORCE 600 to allow wireless printing throughout the house and wanted to see if you know if the duplex printing will work with that printer also? That printer also allows auto-duplex.

One of the functions I used often in Vista was the double sided printing function. After installing the latest Mac drivers from Canon's American homepage I get a lot of printing options on my mac, but under layout the double sided printing option is marked grey and I'm unable choose this option.
Have anybody noticed something similar using a canon printer? Any ideas concerning how to fix this?

I recently purchased an Epson WF 3520 printer that prints 2 sided. My Mac Maverick with all updates shows that 2 sided is turned off but I have not found how to turn it on.
View 6 Replies View RelatedToday, I purchased a Canon Pixma MX350 printer, which is capable of automatic duplex printing. However, when I go to Print in Word, the 'Two-Sided Option' in the 'Layout' menu is greyed-out. Having spent a lot of time Googling and found several similar posts (but not for this exact printer), I understand that this is normal for a Canon printer, but that I should instead have a menu that says 'Duplex Printing & Margin', under which I can select duplex printing. However, I can't find any such menu and can't think of any other way to get duplex printing. The Canon driver I originally had (which comes from the CD provided) was 10.29.0.0. I found a newer one, 10.30.3.0, on the Canon website and installed it, but it didn't fix the problem. I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.8.
Since my main reason for buying this printer was because I need auto duplex printing.
II think it's a Snow Leopard issue, meaning that I don't think there's anything wrong with my printer or its connection. Laserjet p2015dn. Always printed duplex when requested, although I can't say for certain that 10.5.8 worked, since I don't print duplex regularly. After SL, I had only the "Manual Duplex" option, and nothing I could do would return my standard Duplex option. I reinstalled, reset the printer firmware, etc. etc. Every place that there's a duplex option, it's checked. Everything else about the printer is fine -- it sits out on the network and prints happily. I have not made a USB connection to see if that makes a difference.

I'm currently running OSX 10.9.5 on a mid-2013 MacBook Air and have hooked it up to a Canon Pixma MP230 3-in-1 printer. This printer has a built-in manual two-sided printing function, where the user flips the pages for the printer to print on both sides. This feature was working great right about until a few months ago, and suddenly the option is no longer showing up when I attempt to print out of Google Chrome, nor is it available when I try to print using the personalised printer dialog.
My current printer driver is 11.7.1.0, which came out in Sept 2014. I don't know how to downgrade to an older driver (I have tried several times!).
The option for two-sided printing is simply greyed out on the printer dialog, and there is no option to turn it on in the printer setting (no driver tab).

I've searched far and wide on the internet on how to remedy this, but as I stated above, I don't have a driver tab on my printer setting, so this cannot be simply "turned on" somewhere in the settings, because I did nothing to "turn it off" in the first place. Note: other printers display a two-sided printing option on my laptop, so it's this particular printer and driver that are the issue.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter installing snow leopard on my 2.8 GHz 8-core Mac Pro, I cannot do duplex printing. I have also installed the 10.6.1 update. I presume snow leopard thinks my printer driver is up to date, since I have not received the HP printer driver update to install. I have even downloaded the HP Printer Drivers for Mac OS X v10.6 update from the Apple Support downloads site, but I get the following "error message" prior to the installation completion:
System extension cannot be used
The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/hpPlugInInit.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it or contact the product's vendor for an update.
There was a mention elsewhere of a check box in "print & fax" in system preferences to enable duplex printing. Unfortunately, I cannot find this check box.
upgraded to snow leopard-now it gives message the "Auto Duplexer" is not installed on my epson Sprx680 combo printer. Got it working fine in "Leopard".
Driver version on printer is V. 8.02. reinstalled combo update for 10.6.1 and still doesn't work. Any ideas out there?

Printing from any program, Two-Sided Printing on the print prompt screen is grayed out. There's no reason for this, as my desktop Windows does double-sided all the time. I've found a lot of discussions in the Leopard forum about this problem, but none of them used my system or my printer and I couldn't find similar solutions. I am running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a MacBook. I started up my HP Photosmart all-in-one (printer/copier/scanner) c4780 today, and it does everything except the one thing I want it to do: SCAN. The software had been installed previously using the provided installation CD when I used it several months ago (it's been turned off since), and each part (including the scanner) worked perfectly. I am still using a USB cable, as I do not have access to the Wireless Network Key. The System Profile recognizes the device through the USB port, and I am able to print from any program on my computer as well as use the copy function on the machine itself.
So far, in no particular order (and likely multiple times), to troubleshoot, I've repaired disk permissions, uninstalled the software, reinstalled from the CD, reinstalled from the website, rebooted my computer, turned off/on the printer, disconnected/reconnected the USB cable, Googled about every combination of words I could think of for troubleshooting this issue, and tried every other program suggested by HP's website to access the scanner (Import on Preview and Image Capture, both of which tell me that there is no image capture device connected/found). When I try to access the scanner function through the HP Photosmart Studio software, it searches for a scanner but never turns up any results (in that it never reaches a conclusion). When I use the scan button on the physical printer, either nothing happens or I get an error message telling me there is a connection issue; regardless of the message, the lamp does not move (like it does when it copies).
To my recollection, the only software updates I've installed in the interim have been pre-mandated ones from Apple: three Java Script updates I'd been putting off for installing for almost two years. I recently downloaded and ran MacScan, purging my system of tracking applications in an attempt to coach another program that just started having problems to run. On the touch screen printer menu itself, there do not appear to be any setup options, so I can't tweak anything on the printer's end. At this point, I'm not sure if the fault lies with my computer or the printer.

I have OSX 10.6 installed and I currently have my broadband connected by Ethernet connection. Airport seems to connect to my wireless router even though this is plugged in. HPSETUP appears as a device in the WI-FI drop down, however to print I need to select this from the dropdown. Can my iMac's wifi connect to this by default rather than my broadband connection?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am working with a friend who uses Microsoft Office 2011 on an iMac running 10.7.2. He is suddenly unable to print from Outlook. Choosing Print... from the File menu or clicking a print button produces no result at all - the normal print dialogue box does not appear. Previously he could print without a problem. He has no problem printing from Word in Office 2011.
We have updated Office to 14.1.4 through Microsoft Update. We have worked through the advice in the Microsoft support document 2409305 - backing up Outlook identities, and removing Oulook Preferences as advised there. The error remains. We then created a new identity and found we could print from that. So we followed the Microsoft advice to rebuild the Outlook identity database. We still cannot print from Outlook.
I have a rather large print job to do, with several hundred word documents that open using word. I dont want to have to open them all and click print, I'd just like to right click and hit print. However, when I do this even if the last document was sent to print double sided, my mac prints them all single sided.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI added a network printer (HP Laserjet 2300) to my MB (OS 10.5.8) printer list and I can print single sided just fine. BUT there is no option anywhere in my print menu to print double sided. My two labmates can print double sided on this printer (one using MBP with OS 10.6, one a Windows PC). The menu on the MBP looks different and where I have the "reverse pages" option, they have a "double-sided" check box.
I have already:
-Checked the Duplex Unit box on the printer info menu in System preferences
-Looked at ALL the sub menus in the printer menu
-tried to reinstall the drivers (current driver v. 4.3.5.153 - I suspect this may be the issue because the MBP that can print double sided has driver v. 16.something). Actually the HP site was extraordinarily unhelpful in telling me even what version of drivers I should have or getting me to a place where i could download.
-Restarted my computer with various iterations of the above.
This printer can and does print double sided -just not from my computer because I don't have the check box.
I can't figure out how to print double sided using my MB. It works fine in windows, but I can't even find the option to do so in OS X. I'm using various different HP printers and can't do it with any.)
View 14 Replies View RelatedI wanted to make a backup of a double-sided DVD using Mac The Ripper. It ripped one side with no problem but refuses the other one. It recognizes the presence of the DVD, seems to scan the DVD correctly and the Go! button is then ready to be pushed, but when pushed it flashes (in a tiny fraction of a second) the word Cancel that's in the same box and does nothing else. I've looked in the manual; I've tried restarting MTR; I've tried rebooting the computer; I've tried all that again on another computer. Nothing seems to make any difference.
