Since the AEBS firmware update I've been trying to access my usb-disk, connected to my Airport Extreme, through the internet using MobileMe, without success. My iMac and Powerbook show up in Finder under the 'Shared' tab but my airport-disk doesn't. Back to my Mac is giving a green light ... MobileMe registration in the Airport utility sticks and all settings seem to be OK. What's wrong?
ISP also provided a router (Philips) which is NAT and UPnP enabled ... AEBS is connected to the Philips with ethernet (Bridge Mode). Disk is HFS+ formatted ...
Anybody got the same problem? Anybody got a solution ...?
I currently have one router (AEBS) distributing service to over 5 machines at times. Considering buying a new router, and was wondering if this will improve the speed of the internet (also going to upgrade to 50 MB service). I wouldn't have it connected to a computer though, rather kept in my bedroom plugged in. Is this possible or does a router have to be connected to a computer at all times to distribute wifi signal? I understand setting it up initially with a computer, but does it need at all times to work?
I've just bought the new Airport Extreme Base Station last night. I set up everything just fine. I've set up an external HD to the USB port and got it to work fine so far in terms of file sharing and reading and writing. I also have a dedicated Time Machine external HD attached to my MBP USB drive.Does Time Machine backup shared airport drives? This is a deal breaker for me. When I go into time machine after my latest backup, the shared airport drive doesn't show up .Am I missing something? Can time machine back up anything connected to the AEBS?
1. The Bootcamp installation of Windows XP sees my wlan network but fails to connect. Only the guest network works with xp.
2. On the OS X side: connected to the dualband network via N, when I try to play a movie which is stored on my airdisk, every few minutes it skips a few seconds... very annoying.
My AEBS wireless setting is set to automatic
EDIT: I tried some different settings with really strange results. With the networkutility I checked the connectionspeed:
Restarted the AEBS with the setting "automatic = a/n - b/g/n" -> 300Mbit/s Disconnected my MBP and reconnected it -> 130Mbit/s
Restarted the AEBS with the setting "N Only 5GHz - b/g " -> 300Mbit/s Disconnected my MBP and reconnected it -> 54Mbit/s
I'm sure there is a few people on here that have made the swap - is it worth it? Is the difference in speed noticible to warrant an upgrade.
My current setup: 2.4 MBPu Mac Mini (coming soon) Dell Inspiron Canon Printer Touch Slingbox (hardwired to AEBS) AE (old school version) WD 1TB external (connected to AEBS via usb)
I experience this problem for 2 days now. The wi fi says it is connected and all the bars are full but id doesn't load a single page!
The internet i've got is vergin so normally is very fast.Downstairs where we have a desktop computer connected to the D-link is working as normal.
When I open the network diagnostics in mac it shows : wi fi is green , wi-fi settings is green, network settings is failed(red), ISP failed(red), Internet failed (red), server failed red.
What I want to be able to do is plug into the Ethernet ports on this AEBS, and I want that to use wireless to the other wireless router to give me network access. Here is the deal, I have a computer that doesn't have wireless network on it, so it's only Ethernet. I have the AEBS at my desk, and I want to connect the hardwired computer into the AEBS. I want the AEBS to then wirelessly connect that computer that is hard-wired to the network...
my laptop (macbook pro) doesn't turn on, because the battery doesn't work (may be because of moisture), and the 7 battery lights on the left side are off, and when I plug the charger in, the light on the magnetic socket turns on so dim ..
I have macbook pro And my mail has stopped working now. It worked fine a week ago . It doesn't check for new mails , even when I click on get new mail , there is no new mail. I tried to sign out and sign in again but that didn't work . I read few articles on the internet but they all said use the Mac OS X DVD and reinstall but I didn't get any DVD , all I got with my computer was a Manual.
I told myself not to do it. Don't update the Safari software to 4.0, you know how they always mess up these things. And yet, per accident I did. Of course Safari 4.0 doesn't work. Every time I open it, it shuts down. iChat also doesn't work anymore, and even the Dashboard shuts down every now and then. In addition, the computer feels incredibly slow. I can't download rapidshare links on iGetter anymore and everything just feels wrong. Countless threads have been opened on this matter with a variety of different problems for different people. Yet I have not read a proper solution. I have seen all kinds of technical solutions being offered but I'm not a computer wiz and I do not know the terms they use. I just want to go back to Safari 3.2 or at least the one before the 4.0 But I read that deleting Safari 4 and reinstalling 3.2 won't work because of a certain webkit that got installed with it, making it impossible to go back.
Mail.app will not download my work emails while I am at work, although it works fine when I am at home. The settings are exactly the same as for Thunderbird on my desktop, which works fine.
I currently keep my iTunes library on an external drive, connected to my Airport Extreme. I also have another drive attached to the AEBS that I would like to back my iTunes library to.
Can this be done? I've got the full version of Super Duper which will let me back up local drives to any network drive but I can't seem to get it to back to to a network drive to a network drive.
Today I tried to watch a video on my computer, and there was no sound. So I clicked the volume up button, and it doesn't change the level (there's a small "no" sign, the circle with the line through it, under where the volume level should be). In the menu bar, the volume control is now a light grey and I can't use it. Same with in system preferences. Any ideas on how to get volume to start working again or why it stopped?
I just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. When I had the old Tiger software installed, I was able to zoom in and out on my screen by holding down the Control key while scrolling with my mouse.
But since I installed Leopard (not Snow Leopard, since I am using a G5 Tower PowerPC), this key combination no longer works.
This former screen zoom feature is important to me because I am a graphic designer with a neurological condition (tremors in my hands) that makes selecting fine points in graphic applications difficult unless I zoom in.
Note: using the normal graphics apps magnifying glass feature does not help me, because the select points still stay small, but using the old screen zoom method made the points larger and easier for me to select.
I god my MacBook Pro a couple of weeks ago, and I am very satisfied! I noticed that the Maven version is 2.2.0, and I wanted to update to 2.2.1. I tried to looked at some tutorials on how to do this, but something went wrong.
In the Terminal, if I write "mvn -v", I get "-bash: mvn: command not found". Normally, I would get some information on what version Maven is and some other things. The strange thing is that when i write "sudo mvn -v" I get what I should:
Alright, this has been going on for about 2 weeks now? I finally got fed up with it today, did a lot of searching, found people with the same issue, but no ways to fix it. Basically, I have two gmail accounts. I can receive email just fine, but I cannot send it. When I do, it comes up saying can't use the server smtp.gmail.com:myemail@gmail.com. It offers to let me use another smtp server, but being gmail, it doesn't work either. Mail Diagnostics show connection to the internet, but has issues with the smtp server at times. It is sometimes listed as Offline, sometimes not. I have "Use default ports" selected, those being 25, 465, 587 under under the "edit smtp server list" on account information. Nothing under "IMAP Path Prefix" Port: 993 with use SSL checked. authentication is password, and works. That's all the info I can think of to provide you with, if you need anything else, just ask.
Dock hiding just doesn't work any more. Specifically, the dock WILL hide, but it won't return when I need it to. You can move the cursor to the bottom of the screen (where my dock presently is), and nothing happens. This has happened before, but now it happens consistently. It's awfully frustrating. A couple of times today, hiding wouldn't turn on, either (that is, the dock just wouldn't hide at all), but that's sortof a moot point, since if it HAD hidden, it wouldn't have reappeared.
My friend have sent macbook air to me, but the USB device doesn't work at all, whenever I plug memory stick or ipod cable in, nothinh happensit's doesn't find any device,
I am pretty displeased with Mac. I made the switch over last summer when Apple was having the big sale for college students. I bought a Macbook with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. It wasn't the cheapest white one, but it wasn't the expensive black one either. Reason one why I was displeased: the CD drive sounded like a motor boat when I tried burning CDs. After having that fixed, yet another problem arose that persists to this day: For some reason, my wireless doesn't work here at home. It works (almost) perfectly at school, but here at home, I have to be about 3 inches away from the freaking router for it to function properly. When I'm no more than 10 feet away, the signal begins to drop. Even when I have 3 bars of connection showing, my internet won't work at all. Coincidentally, when i click on the wireless button up at the top of the screen, it begins to function again (most of the time). It is really annoying. This is probably the last Mac I will ever buy. At home, I have a Linksys wireless router, Model WRT54GR.
I often find a random safari window showing some advert or something and have worked out that it's imdb.com - go there and browse and it craftily opens a window behind the active one.
When I go to certain websites that use Adobe Flash Player with Firefox 3 in one user account, the Flash doesn't work. Some Flash websites do work, such as Youtube. What in the world is going wrong? How can I fix it?
The details: I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.6, it has two user accounts. One user account is mine, has administrator privileges, and gets most of the use. The other user account was created later, lacks administrator privileges, and gets little use. Both user accounts have Safari and the latest Firefox 3 (3.0.8) installed. The problem with Flash occurs ONLY in the second (non-admin) user account, ONLY in Firefox, and ONLY on certain websites.
Websites with Flash that do work: 1. YouTube.com 2. Every website I could think of with a simple Flash intro
Websites with Flash that DON'T work: 1. pandora.com //The HTML loads fine, but there is a dead white box where the Flash UI should be 2. Macromedia Flash settings manager //There is a medium white box where the Flash UI that allows you to change settings should be. 3. seeqpod.com //Very odd failure mode: The Flash UI loads, and works. I click "sign in", and the "sign in" dialog appears. I type my username and password and click enter, and then the whole Flash UI freezes forever (well, for at least 30 minutes). This crash is unrecoverable.
Note that all three of those broken websites do work in Safari in the non-admin user, and all three of those broken websites do work in both Safari and Firefox in the Admin user.
What I have tried: 1. Upgrading from Flash 9 to the latest Flash 10. No change whatsoever. 2. Uninstalling all versions of Flash using the Flash Uninstaller for OS X 10.3 and up, available from Adobe/Macromedia, then reinstalling Flash 10. No change whatsoever.
