Final Cut Pro :: How To Take 4:3 Footage And Create 16:9 Footage Without Squishing Video
had a shoot (recital) used a dvx for one of the cameras and it was shot in 4:3...need it to go to 16:9 without squashing the image...and not lose quality..the second camera was correctly set to 16:9 (and shot in hd)..but its all being dumped to standard dvd anyway. What is the best way to get the 4:3 footage to 16:9 and keep the aspect ratio correct....I was thinking of mpeg streamclip..but wasn't sure if that would degrade the footage..

Final Cut Pro :: How To Avoid Taking HNC150 (AVCHD) Footage Straight To DVD
I have some footage shot on the HMC150, then transfered to HDD that I need to go straight to DVD with. Is there a decent way to go to DVDSP with this footage? I would like to avoid the FCP>ProRes>Compressor>DVDSP trip if possible. A client just needs the raw stuff, no editing.

Final Cut Pro :: Picture Stretched After Outputting Edit Of Red One Footage
I exported edit of Red footage to self contained Quicktime and movie looks beautiful. However, when I used Quicktime file as source in DVD Pro or Compressor, the picture is slightly stretched vertically and there is bad artifacting. I noticed that the Quicktime file frame size is 2048x1024 (2:1 aspect ratio). I used log & tranfer ProRes 422 (16:9 aspect ratio) to capture footage and same sequence settings to edit. It looked great in FCP. What the heck am I doing wrong?! Why the difference in the aspect ratios?

Final Cut Pro :: Video Footage - Converting HD To SD?
I am assembling video footage for a client. He has a tape that has been recorded in HD mode. It seems as if it can only be brought into my iMac with an HD camcorder/deck. After the HD footage is in my computer, can I convert it to standard definition where I will be able to export it back to a mini-DV tape? I have mostly all DV footage and I'm afraid this HD tape will trip me up.

Final Cut Pro :: Capture Video Footage From A VCR
I'm trying to capture video footage from a VCR by running it through my DV camera and am having no luck at all. The method I'm using is as follows.

I go into FCP menu > Audio Video Settings > Device Control Presets > select DV Non-controllable Device. I double-click on it and get a message that a duplicate will be created. I name the duplicate and try to select it, but the checked option remains on PAL. OK, I proceed anyway...

I play the video on the VHS and it appears in my camera monitor. I go into "Logging and Capture" in FCP where the video playing on the VCR shows in the Viewer. I click "Now". The capture window opens but remains black. Nothing is captured.

A step-by-step way to capture from a VHS? I've posted on this topic before, but the advice was only to use DV Non-controllable Device.

Final Cut Pro :: Video And Audio Out Of Sync After Capturing Footage
After capturing footage, the audio and video are out of sync in the clip AND when I drag it to the timeline. When I go through each part, it looks like the video hesitates often, which seems to be causing the misalignment of audio. But, once it is moved into alignment, it goes out of sync again throughout the remainder of the one hour video. I'm capturing through a Canon Optura 50 Mini DV and editing with FCP 6.0.1. I have checked that the audio mode is set to 16 bit on the camera, and the capture settings have the audio rate for 48 KHz. This same problem occurred when I was capturing another event last week. It won't get aligned even if I take the hours and hours to move the audio left and right frame by frame. I'm saving it to the desktop Hard Drive in a folder I created. I unselected abort for dropped frames. I have it set for Firewire NTSC Basic.

Final Cut Pro :: Video Squished Looking When Trying To Import Footage From DV Cammera?
My DV/NTSC video footage looks stretched up and down, like the actors on my footage look squished when I pull footage in from my dv cam. I have never had this problem before and have been using the camera for a couple years now. Something has changed but I cannot figure out what. I have read the manual and reset everything. I want to make sure the video is brought in right before I start editing this stuff again. When I play the footage in the sequence right away from importing it the "correct for aspect ratio" is check marked on the top of the window which makes the image look anamorphic.

Final Cut Pro :: Video With Titles Footage And Music Not Uploading
This problem just began recently. I export my movie from final cut pro by clicking file>export>using quicktime conversion. I do h.264, 30fps, med quality, deinterlace video source, around 22khz for audio and then I export it. But lately when I've been trying to upload my exported videos to my godaddy server or even youtube the upload suddenly stops. Sometimes it will be at the very start or closer to the end.

I had a video with titles footage and music which wouldn't upload. I did everything I could from scratch to see what the problem was and I realized if I dont have a clip at the very start of the timeline before another clip fades in it wont upload for me. If I have the clip about 2 seconds into the start of the project it doesn't upload, unless I move it to the very start. But I should be able to do whatever I want in my timeline and have it upload to youtube or my server.

Final Cut Pro :: Compressor Taking Excessive Time - Editing Video
I'm having terrible trouble with compressor taking forever. I'm editing a wedding video that I shot in HD widescreen. I've edit in FC rendered the movie and then exported as self contained Quick time movie. Using current settings (HD). I then open the movie in compressor my target setting are DVD Best quality 90min. I haven't edited any other setting because I've use the best quality settings before without much complication (the other movies 40 min took 14 hours to compress) I had resigned myself to the long compression time but the times I'm getting at the moment are getting out of hand.

For 50 min movie I'm currently getting 26 hours and climbing! The time goes up and down at one point it quoted 230 hours and most regular time is 56. This is actually starting to depress me I traveled through the net and forums with no resolution. I've boosted my core as suggested here:

Final Cut Pro :: Canon HG21 AVCH Footage - Shift In Video Levels During Log And Transfer
I just brought the Canon HG21 120GB HDD camcorder after reading many favorable reviews from the apple discussions and other online reviews. I am an editor and most of the things I shoot, I bring the footage into FCP to edit. When I use the log and transfer to convert the AVCHD footage, I found that the clips I had videotaped were dark. The video levels appear to be decreased in the log and transfer menu. Through the camera viewfinder, it looks fine. I shot the footage using the cinema mode at 30p. Has anyone experienced this shift in video levels during log and transfer?

Final Cut Pro :: Video Footage Is All Jagged, Big Pixel Squares, Mosaic Type Images?
My friend shot some documentary footage for me on his Sony 198P, which is Standard Definition. He had no problem importing and editing in Adobe Premier. But, when I watched the same mini dv tape on my Canon XL1 the footage is all jagged, big pixel squares, mosaic type images. Completely unclear. Log and captures works but obviously imports this way also into FCP. I am trying to figure out if it is time code issues, or frame rate issues. My Canon is set on 16 bit. I have tried changing the menu settings on my Canon XL1. Really want to resolve this asap. I have a deadline for editing this project and this problem has never occurred when I have shot footage on my XL1.

Final Cut Pro :: How To Use H.264 Footage With Uncompressed 8bit PAL Footage
I have a FCP project with the uncompressed 8 bit PAL settings and FPS is 25 as per PAL standards. Now i have some 2 minutes of footage fron Canon 7D with H.264 settings. Frame size is 1920*1080 and FPS is 24. I was trying various options to use the footage but failed. already done with various exports like making a new projects of the H.264 settings and export the file as PAL setting with 720*576 and FPS 25, but the result is really bad. Video is shaking and pixels are damaged. Pan shots and other moving shots lost their quality totally.

Final Cut / Compressor :: Taking About An Hour Per Minute Of Video?
I've been trying for a week now to get my 1 hour 42 minute HD video to compress for a DVD. I've tried a bunch of different settings and I finally got one that works good. But it's taking about 1 hour for every minute of video that it's compressing and I'm trying to have DVDs made by this Saturday. All of the other setting that I've tried so far have taken days at a time, then failed with only a few hours left. Does anybody know of any faster way of doing this without losing quality?

I'm using a macbook pro, the video is AVCHD 1920 X 1080 using AIC. I'm using MPEG-2 with 2 pass VBR, all frame controls on "Better" in Compressor. I like the quality (I tried a 7 minute clip of it already) and I want these DVDs to be at least that quality, but it doesn't seem like it should be taking so long.

Final Cut Pro :: How To Do Simple Picture-in-picture Effect
i'm sure the answer is going to be motion ... but i need to do a simple picture-in-picture effect w/ a colored border. yes how primitive ... i scale down & reposition the shot using the motion tab, then i apply a border filter. good so far. however once i crop the shot (using the motion tab) the border does not follow the crop and i lose the border. obviously the border still exists around the entire video frame but you lose the border when you crop the frame smaller. any way around this?

fwiw, on avid we have an effect/filter called "3D warp". this is essentially a full channel of DVE that includes borders, shadows, lighting effects, keying in addition to 3D motion control of the frame. does anything similar to this exist on fcp? can't seem to find it if it does exist. seems like the most basic of effects.
