Final Cut Pro :: Fix Inproper Video Size Within Time Line ?
I'm really flustered by this random event. I logged and captured all tapes at the same time w/ same settings (at least i didn't change any settings). In my timeline I have 15 minutes worth of properly formatted SD video working just fine.Downstream, video is stretched and skewed looking like it's 4:3 or some other weird format.

Now, I went to Ez setup and started a new sequence, then dragged the old timeline files into the new one and it didn't fix the issue. On the other hand, I went back to the MASTER clips and redragged the entire tape onto the new "Post" EZ setup sequence and magically.....the dimensions are fixed.

Here is the problem: I have like 15 more minutes of inproper "4:3 esque" footage already edited how i like it into the timeline. I REALLY don't want to re-edit my hard work again in order to fix the stupid 4:3 look

Is there a way I can simply fix this by any process automatically by dragging the "4:3" looking video from the timeline into another timeline to apply the dimensin changes or something??? This sounds very logical, but when I drag the 4:3 into the new seq. it retains the wrong format.

MobileMe / Gallery :: Video From IPhone4 Does Not Play On MBP?
I uploaded a video clip taken from my iPhone4 to Mobile Me and plays well when viewed from the Gallery App. However when I opened the same video file on my MBP thru Mobile Me on Safari, the video will not play. After the initial gray square that first appears, the QuickTime logo appears on the middle of the screen with a question mark. A spinning gear continuously spins, signifying the video is loading but the progress bar at the bottom does not move. I have already tried copying the QuickTime plugin to the user->Library->Internet Plugin directory, but still doesn't work.

Final Cut Pro :: DVD Skipping - How To Fix It
Ok, I will try and give as much info as possible. So a customer came to me with a consumer made SD DVD with a menu and told me to rip the DVD to my hard drive and re-burn it without the menu. So I used DVDxDV on my macbook pro and made the default setting of "final cut pro/imovie" quicktime file from the DVD. I then put that file into final cut pro and exported using compressor as a 150min best quality SD 16X9 dvd with .m2v as video and .ac3 as audio. Pretty standard right? Well when I used DVD Studio Pro to burn the DVD, the customer later said the DVD skipped. He tried it on multiple machines and I did the same and it skipped. So I re-encoded, same problem. What am I missing here? I know it's not the DVD themselves because I have a 100-pack and I have already burned like 30 other dvds for other clients and I haven't gotten any calls saying their product skipped. So what else can it be? I'm using leopard (up-to-date) and FCS2.

Final Cut Pro :: Playback Skipping - How To Fix It
I'm editing a couple of clips in FCP... the footage was shot with a Kodak handheld in HD. When I drop a few clips into the timeline and then try to play them back, the playback video skips between every single clip. I've tried to change the sequence settings to control the playback but no changes help. I've restarted the computer thinking maybe i had something running in the background. Nothing. Seems to only happen with THESE HD clips. I have several other edits in HD and am not seeing this problem (although I am seeing some issues not related to this post). Seems to not handle HD very well. Do I need a fast computer? Oh, the clips are pulling from an external drive, but it's a very nice drive, shouldn't be the issue.

Final Cut Pro :: Fcp Keeps Crashing / Fix It?
I am cutting a piece using 3 G-Tech 1TB hard drives. I accidentally pulled out the firewire cord that was attached to the drives. The FCP crashed. When I brought it back up, I saved the project to a new project just to be safe. Now every half hour it crashes. After it crashed I restored the project to the most recent auto save version and saved as a new project with a different name and started editing. It crashes again and again.

Final Cut Pro :: Best Settings To Fix Interlacing
So now that I've been working in HD, my video looks fine as I edit, but once I export I get this really ugly interlacing going on. It looks awful when I play it on my computer, but if I put the video on a DVD it plays smoothly on Standard and HD TV's. Final Cut Pro :: Trying To Compress Video To H.264 And Make Video Smaller?
I have compressed my HD video file from FCP to Quick Time Conversion as a H.264 file to upload to You Tube. I have done several, and not had any issues with the upload. Understand, my issue isn't trying to compress it successfully to H.264, rather I am having issues uploading it and the reason for that is the file is too large to upload.

I just don't know enough about other file types to choose the right one and trying to go through everyone by way of trial and error would take a couple of weeks:) I have a series of videos that I am doing this for, for a client and want to keep the same quality throughout, if possible. I do understand that I will most likely have to sacrifice some quality. The files that I am attempting to upload as H.264 end up being 2.36 GB and a bit higher. All my other videos have been under the 2 GB limit.

So my question is two fold:

1. What would be considered the next best compression type to use that would actually make my files smaller to be uploadable?
2. For the files that I have already compressed to H.264, I was going to run them through MPEG Streamclip, but do not know what file type to choose that would not compromise my quality (or the least impact on quality anyway's) and which one would bring down the size, or would it be better to start again with those?

Or if that isn't an option, is it possible to put the 16x9 in a shadow box format (16x9 inside the 4x3 box) so that it won't get "squished" when the cable access guys take my video from the DVD. Example - just converted an mp4 file to 720x576 25fps .mov for use in an existing PAL CCIR 601 sequence of the same frame size and rate, non anamorphic. The bin details of the clip confirm it is also CCIR 601 etc. Yet I have to render it when edited into the sequence.

Final Cut Pro :: Suddenly Started Running Slowly - How To Fix It
I am running FCP on a Macbook Pro Intel with 4MB of RAM. The hard drive has 300GB, of which 144GB is still available. I use the hard drive as a scratch disk and have my project running on a 350GB Lacie 800 Firewire.
It's been running fine up until today, when it started running really slowly. If I hit PLAY in either canvas or preview window, it will "buffer" for ten, even twenty seconds, then play at normal speed. Loading clips into the preview window it will "think about it" for ten, twenty seconds before doing something it previously did almost instantly.

Final Cut Pro :: Avoid / Fix Minor (and Major) Frame Shifts?
I am having issues with frames slipping/shifting about 1 or 2 frames away from my original edit. It is noticeable mostly through audio, but there are several spots where the video shift is noticeable as well. It was initially only through a longer capture (about 7 gigs) but I know have it happening from several other captures (roughly 3 gigs each). While most shifts are 1-2 frames, I had one earlier on of about 1 and a half seconds. I just found a cut that shifted 7 minutes away to another part of the captured footage (It is rather a trial to set it all right by hand.) It has happened to edits that have been made weeks ago and have been stable. I feel it might have something to do with the rendering, as when I found in spots where I left the sequence unrendered everything stayed put. I'm not sure if it has something to do with format or settings or anything. Is this just a weird bug? I am at a loss, and not sure what to do except going frame by frame (as I cut almost frame by frame) and re-cutting it.

Final Cut Pro :: Footage Blank White In Viewer And Canvas / Fix This?
I have captured HDV 1080p24 footage onto Final Cut Pro and have started a project on FCP 6. My sequence settings match my clip settings (HDV 1080p24)and everything is rendered. However, when I play a clip in the timeline, the footage seems to lag as if it is dropping frames, but it doesn't tell me that it is. The footage looks fine when I play it in Finder or Quicktime.

No one could figure out the problem, so I decided to update my Mac and FCS finally, and then install FCP 7. But when I updated my project file and played the footage, all I get is blank whiteness.

I'VE ALREADY TRIED THAT "CHANGE FROM ALPHA TO RGB." IT WAS NEVER ON ALPHA TO BEGIN WITH.

Someone also told me it might be a codec problem and that I would need to remove and reinstall FCP 7. Well, I did that, and I still have the problem.

Final Cut Pro :: Project Won't Recover Properly After Minimizing / Fix This?
I've been working on a long (65 min.) project for over 8 months. All the source material and render files are on an external G-Raid FW800 drive. Suddenly, the project takes a little longer to load. But most importantly, once it is up and running, if I minimize the Final Cut, or if any other application is used 'on top' of my FCP window, the project will act up as I return to it. What happens is all the clips on the timeline will turn either white or dark gray, my external hard drive will start working, and I'll get a spinning wheel for about 10 minutes. Afterwards it will tell me that my media is offline, and shortly after that, FCP quits.

I have tried trashing preferences, repairing permissions and restarting. No luck so far.

Final Cut Pro :: Exported Video Does Not Look Right
My goal is to create a high quality 640x480 movie for Computer/Web viewing only.

- I shot a short video using a Canon Vixia HV30 to mini DV tape using the SD standard - no problem. I guess that records at 720x480 non-square pixels at 29.97fps - is that right?

- I used log and capture inside of FCP v6.0.5 to capture the various clips I needed - no problem (I don't think). If I open each of those clips from the finder in Quicktime they look "pretty" good, but a bit of aliasing on the diagonals and somewhat blurry, but not sure why? Everything looks sharp on the smaller camera LCD screen? and looks pretty good inside of FCP on the Canvas? If I open one of these captures directly inside of Quicktime and do a get info, it says...

DV 720x480 (640x480)
FPS: 29.95
Normal Size: 640x480 pixels
Current Size: 640x480 pixels (Actual)

All these Quicktime movies appear slightly larger in height and width than the same clips when viewed in the FCP Canvas? If I open the Sequence Settings in FCP it says...

Frame Size 720 x 480 NTSC DV (3:2)
Pixel Aspect Ratio NTSC - CCIR 601 /DV (720x480)
Field Dominance: None
Editing Timebase: 29.97

Everything looked pretty good inside FCP so I Exported a QT Movie using "Current Settings". Then opened the resulting self-contained movie in QT and it looks pretty bad. When I get info in QT on the rendered final movie it reads...

DV 720x480 (640x480)
FPS: 29.97
Normal Size: 720x480 pixels
Current Size: 640x480 pixels (Actual)

So... the FPS and the Normal Size are not the same as the captured original clips. Is this just the wrong Sequence Settings, Export Settings or do I have to start over an re-capture all my footage some other way? I am assuming that the DV Camcorder is recording interlaced (60 fields) rather than progressive - is that right. Do I need to de-interlace the video somehow?

Final Cut Pro :: How To Use Video Capture
When I capture video from my camera, I use the DV NTSC 48kHz preset. This should capture video at 720x480. So when I capture a clip, and then open it in Quicktime, the information says that it's Format is 720x480 (853x480), also saying that the actual size is 853x480. And of course when I play the clip in QT, it is stretched. Anyone know why it does this? I only researched this, because when I import my clips into FCP, they look very edgy and rough.
