Final Cut Pro :: Log And Capture - Unable To Initialize Video Deck
So far all of my editing I have done since I bought FCP7 has been done using media from SDHC cards. I am trying to import from MiniDV tapes using a Sony DVCAM tape deck connected through dv/Firewire to my Macbook Pro. When I click Log and capture the text comes up "Capture Project must have a video or an audio digitizer set to capture. Please change to desired preset in the audio/video settings."
The problem is I don't know what to pick to make it work.. The things I have tried don't work, for example the tape was recorded with DVCAM at 48k but when I switch the A/V settings to DV 48k it still doesnt work. It also says "unable to initialize video deck, you may still log offline clips or use capture now."

Final Cut Pro :: Unable To Initialize Video Deck
My Final Cut Express wont initialize my deck. A dialog box comes up saying so. One site suggest deleting quicktime receipts in my library folder on my mac, that quicktime needs to be reinstalled, then I should be able to get my canon HV20 video camera to communicate with FCE 4 and start capturing. Has anyone heard of resolving my "unable to initialize video deck" issue this way? How to get my HV20 and FCP to communicate to each other? Information: macBookPro Mac OS X (10.4.11) FCE 4.0 issue

Final Cut Pro :: Unable To Initialize HDV Deck Error
I have a batch of HD footage on several tapes that need to be digitized and I'm using my HV10 as the deck. I just did one of them without any problem and then when it was done, I switched to tape #2 without even restarting Final Cut or the computer or the deck and suddenly I got the dreaded "unable to initialize HDV deck" error. I have the firewire plugged directly into my Mac from the HV10 and it won't work. When I try to capture via iMovie, it works and the deck is recognized and I can import the footage, but importing via Final Cut and I get that error. I can even import in Final Cut if I go under "easy setup" and change the settings to "Firewire Basic" or "DV-NTSC". Both of those allow me to play and capture, but it's not an HD setting so the resolution and aspect ratios are all off, so that's not the solution. After that, if I switch back to "HDV Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60" I get the same "unable to initialize deck" error again. Information: 3.06 Ghz INtel Core 2 Duo Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Final Cut Pro :: Log And Capture Quality Of Video
I am having a problem with the quality of my video that I have loggged and captured. The video was initially shot on a Panasonic DVX at 24p. I logged and captured and got very good quality directly from the DVX. I then had a problem and lost all my files by mistake and needed to re capture the footage. The only device I had available was a cheap Canon ZR500. I logged and captured but the quality looks like I had the gain on high and it is super blocky. It is green screen and keying has become a nightmare. I'm not sure if the problem is with the fact that I am capturing from a different camera or if I need to change the settings in Final Cut when I am capturing to better suit the original 24p footage. Final Cut Pro :: Capture Footage To Disk - 3d Camera As Deck?
so we just captured an event on CanonXL2 and DVX100B. now we are downloading the footage to the computer. does it matter if we use either of those cameras to capture the footage to disk? or can we use a 3rd camera as a deck? eg the first two camera are 3CCD, whereas the one we are using to download the files to the computer is a single CCD. but CCD doesn't have anything to do with offloading does it? I though thats a function of the heads? I always thought that once the tape is recorded, the quality of the capture would be the same regardless of the deck or camera used to "log & capture" what you shot. is this correct? When inside of the log and capture tool, on the VERY left and VERY right of the video, you see weird shaking. On the broadcast monitor, you can't see anything. The rest of the video in Log and Capture appears to be fine. Any idea why I'm seeing this? Keep in mind it was shot on film at 23.98. Final Cut Pro :: Log And Capture Not Working
So having used FCP for over 8 years now I consider myself fairly experienced with the interface and all of the possibilities of FCP yet I ALWAYS have trouble syncing my camera and Capturing footage. At home after finding the optimal Sequence/Capture settings I save it as a preset and never worry about it again, but now at work, trying to upload footage from my camera has caused me to hate the log and capture process again. Here is the situation... I have DV footage on a miniDV tape that I need to splice and put together for a reel at work. At work I am using a MacPro with FCP Studio 6. To upload the footage I brought my Canon HV20 from home to use as a deck. I have uploaded both HD and SD footage at home and this seemed to be the optimal deck to capture my footage. I looked up my HV20 SD preset and wrote down the easy setup i had set for it and tried creating the same setup at my work computer, but to no avail the computer refuses to recognize the camera. Both the camera and the computer Firewire ports work with other products and the several cables I tried work for other things as well. When I do try to log and capture, i get the "Unable to initialize video deck. You may still log offline clips or use capture now" and nothing ever connects. Information: FCP 6 Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Final Cut Pro :: Advantages Of Log And Capture
I want to talk about Capture Now. Let me first state that I'm a believer in Batch Capture after doing Logging clips. But, I many shows I'm working on will not be captured by me, but by the directors, assistant directors or researchers/editors (not video editors) and camjo's. Shooting on DVCam there are timecodebreaks in the tapes. So I write them comments about how to handle the camera to prevent Timecode breaks. I write them reports about how to do easy setup, System Settings, Proper User Preferences, etc. And I'd like them to Log before capturing. Let tape roll at leat 5 seconds before pressing Capture Now. All reasonable. Given the available time they capture whole tapes and sometimes provide me with spotlists. Well now I want to have the discussion with you about the difference between Capture Now and Batch Capture concerning tapes with Timecode breaks: If there are Timecode breaks in a tape and you give an Inpoint at the beginning of the tape. Outpoint at the end. In User Preferences set on Timecode break 'Make New Clip'. Then, FCP will encounter Timecode breaks. Stops and starts to capture a new clip. Now my questions are: 1. Do these captures differ from clips captured with Capture Now? (concerning sync, timecode accuracy, etc.) 2. Is FCP able to recapture those clips in case of data loss? I mean. After a TC break FCP starts to recapture using the preroll time, right? Is that the case in both 'Capture Now' and 'Log and Capture'? Is this preroll enough to do a recapture? Or should one set a longer preroll during the capturing in order to recapture with a normal preroll-time in the case of disk-damage? I'm asking all this because I'm doubting about the advantage of Log and Capture over Capture Now when it comes to tapes with Timecode breaks.
