Final Cut Pro :: Log And Capture - Timecode Breaks

I started capturing a Mini DV tape in FCP 6 with my Sony HVR-15 tape deck. I opened up the Log and Capture window and entered the the relevant info under "Reel", which in this case was "Tape 2". Then I pressed play and "Capture Now". I encountered a lot of timecode breaks during capture but let the tape run and finish capturing. When I had a look in the browser the captured clips were named Tape 6, Tape 6-1, Tape 6-2 etc. No matter how many times I entered "Tape 2" into the field the tapes ended up as Tape 7 and upwards.

Final Cut Pro :: Log & Capture Cannot Find Timecode On Tape - Can't Capture
I am capturing DV from a DV camera into fcp6. Tape 1 was captured fine, but for tape 2, shot immediately after, log & capture the preview screen comes up black and says "this operation could not be completed as there is no video". But video and audio play perfectly on the camera. I've tried switching to non-cotrollable device but no change. The previous tape was captured thru Firewire NTSC NDF. Have been capturing using "now capture" since I had no device control either, though now suddenly I do but it still won't work.

Final Cut Pro :: Viewing Timecode During Log And Capture
I am wondering if there is a way to view timecode in realtime while in the 'capture now' mode of log and capture? I am working in a environment where we do not have the time to log things separately and are looking for a way to make notes of what is on our tapes while also capturing. Since our deck does not have a timecode output is there anyway to have FCP show the timecode along with what is being captured?

Final Cut Pro :: Capturing Footage From Camera - Timecode Breaks
I have a canon HV20 camera and I am trying to capture footage in prores 422 with FCP 7. The issue I keep having is during the capture I keep getting timecode breaks. The footage I taped was one hour event so there was no stop or starts during the recording. I am really confuse why this is happening? They are new tapes and again its a straight hour recording.

Final Cut Pro :: Tapes Recorded Of Live Events - Timecode Breaks?
I have:
FCP 6.0.6
Panasonic DVX-100b
OSX 10.6.2

Capturing Firewire (Not Basic and Not NDF)
With Easy Setup preset DV/Panasonic with 2:3:3:2 Adv. Pulldown Removal at 23.98fps
DV NTSC.

Now, before I have used this setup and I was able to record footage, no problem. I recorded 3 tapes of hour long footage each of a live event. There are no stops no times when the battery died. It's 57 straight minutes of recorded footage. Final cut will not let me Capture Clip saying: "Drop frames were detected using last capture attempt"

If I do Batch Capture of the one clip I get: "A break in the VFR/Pulldown Cadence has aborted the last capture attempt". If I just do Capture Now, it works, but it detected EIGHT..... E I G H T timecode breaks. How is that Possible

I have already done the following:
Restarted the computer
Changed between External to Internal HD for capture
Changed Camera that is used for log & capture
Trash the FCP preferences & settings
Started a new project

All of those don't work. My system if fully up-to-date. What is wrong!? Also JUST to be sure that it is not the tape. I logged and captured all 57 minutes, flawlessly in Adobe Premier with equivalent settings. Something is wrong with Final Cut.

Final Cut Pro :: Timecode Break Detected During Capture
I shoot a lot of event multi-cam. I use a HVX200 and DVX100a to shoot and later digitize the footage with a 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Mac with 8GB of RAM using FCP 6.0.5 and OS 10.5.6. Recently, I started receiving timecode break errors during capture. My prefs are set to 'Make New Clip' so the machine does so and I'm left with several clips. Not really a huge deal but when you're syncing long segments it's a hassle and I'd rather correct the situation.

The interesting thing is that if I use my DVX or HVX to serve as a deck and capture the footage I don't get the error. And sometimes I'll mix it up, for instance, I'll take the HVX footage and digitize it with the DVX (no error) or vice verse (no error) or shoot HVX/capture HVX (no error). So my Panasonic AG-DV2500 deck seems to be the culprit? It can't seem to capture either footage without the error.

Final Cut Pro :: HD Capture - Timecode Sync Break
The last two events I have filmed I have used a combination of tripods and monopods. (We have been doing it this way for years). The main difference this time is that we have filmed in HD with the Canon Vixia HD30s. I have captured, log and capture, these cameras use a mini dv tape. The cameras that were on the monopods had trouble capturing in one chunk. There seems to be a timecode break somehow that makes it not capture in one piece. The tripods seem to work fine. This is frustrating as I use multiclip to edit. I rarely had this problem with FCP when we filmed everything in SD. Is the slightest tap on the floor with the monopod causing a blip in the tape? Or Is there a setting in FCP that I can make to avoid this?

Final Cut Pro :: Doing Other Activities During Log And Capture
The default behavior is for FCE to stop capturing when another application is selected. I would like to be able to disable this behavior, and evaluate whether it's a problem to do light duty activities during the capture process. I can understand the need to limit activity to avoid missing part of the data stream, but with the faster machines, I'd expect them to be able to keep up with the port, while doing other things. Is this "doable"?

Final Cut Pro :: Log And Capture Not Working
So having used FCP for over 8 years now I consider myself fairly experienced with the interface and all of the possibilities of FCP yet I ALWAYS have trouble syncing my camera and Capturing footage. At home after finding the optimal Sequence/Capture settings I save it as a preset and never worry about it again, but now at work, trying to upload footage from my camera has caused me to hate the log and capture process again.
Here is the situation... I have DV footage on a miniDV tape that I need to splice and put together for a reel at work. At work I am using a MacPro with FCP Studio 6. To upload the footage I brought my Canon HV20 from home to use as a deck. I have uploaded both HD and SD footage at home and this seemed to be the optimal deck to capture my footage. I looked up my HV20 SD preset and wrote down the easy setup i had set for it and tried creating the same setup at my work computer, but to no avail the computer refuses to recognize the camera. Both the camera and the computer Firewire ports work with other products and the several cables I tried work for other things as well. When I do try to log and capture, i get the "Unable to initialize video deck. You may still log offline clips or use capture now" and nothing ever connects.

Final Cut Pro :: Advantages Of Log And Capture
I want to talk about Capture Now. Let me first state that I'm a believer in Batch Capture after doing Logging clips. But, I many shows I'm working on will not be captured by me, but by the directors, assistant directors or researchers/editors (not video editors) and camjo's. Shooting on DVCam there are timecodebreaks in the tapes. So I write them comments about how to handle the camera to prevent Timecode breaks. I write them reports about how to do easy setup, System Settings, Proper User Preferences, etc. And I'd like them to Log before capturing.

Let tape roll at leat 5 seconds before pressing Capture Now. All reasonable. Given the available time they capture whole tapes and sometimes provide me with spotlists. Well now I want to have the discussion with you about the difference between Capture Now and Batch Capture concerning tapes with Timecode breaks: If there are Timecode breaks in a tape and you give an Inpoint at the beginning of the tape. Outpoint at the end. In User Preferences set on Timecode break 'Make New Clip'. Then, FCP will encounter Timecode breaks. Stops and starts to capture a new clip. Now my questions are:

1. Do these captures differ from clips captured with Capture Now? (concerning sync, timecode accuracy, etc.)
2. Is FCP able to recapture those clips in case of data loss? I mean. After a TC break FCP starts to recapture using the preroll time, right? Is that the case in both 'Capture Now' and 'Log and Capture'? Is this preroll enough to do a recapture? Or should one set a longer preroll during the capturing in order to recapture with a normal preroll-time in the case of disk-damage?

I'm asking all this because I'm doubting about the advantage of Log and Capture over Capture Now when it comes to tapes with Timecode breaks.

Final Cut Pro :: Log And Capture Quality Of Video
I am having a problem with the quality of my video that I have loggged and captured. The video was initially shot on a Panasonic DVX at 24p. I logged and captured and got very good quality directly from the DVX. I then had a problem and lost all my files by mistake and needed to re capture the footage. The only device I had available was a cheap Canon ZR500. I logged and captured but the quality looks like I had the gain on high and it is super blocky. It is green screen and keying has become a nightmare. I'm not sure if the problem is with the fact that I am capturing from a different camera or if I need to change the settings in Final Cut when I am capturing to better suit the original 24p footage.

I went to download an entire tape and after 3 minutes ended up with untitled1 through untitled 1-19.

I just want the entire tape, the whole 60min., not a couple hundred little clips that I then have to string together. There are no timecode breaks. I have also gotten a 'searching for media' error a few times where nothing is downloaded at all.
