Final Cut Pro :: External Hard Drive ?
I am working for a director who wants to buy another hard drive, as we've filled up our first TB drive with footage and need to get another. It's a laCie drive that he had prior to starting the project, so this one will be bought new. I don't know a lot about HD's and he knows less, so he asked me to find out about them. Does anyone have any recommendations? As my personal drive I've been using a Maxtor 1TB drive for almost two years, and it still works like a charm. They merged with Seagate though, so only available randomly. He also wants to know the pro's v con's of 1TB vs 2TB, so on a budget of about $250, what would be our best option? a more expensive 1 TB for reliability, or a less expensive 2 TB for space.

Final Cut Pro :: Need To Capture Directly To External Hard Drive
I have tons of material recorded on a MiniDV. It is on standard definition, but I have no space in my hard-drive to capture directly on it. Nevertheless, I do have an external hard-drive, and I'd like to capture directly on it. How can I do that? I am using Final Cut Pro v.3.0. I have a MacBookPro. I am capturing from Camera to Computer through FireWire. My external Hard-Drive only works with USB. Is there a way to do this?? I'm merely a beginner.

I got into movie editing not so long ago. First thing I noticed is how long it takes to render movies, when editing in HD. Final Cut Pro :: Choosing The Right Video Editing External Hard Drive?
I am looking for an external hard drive to completely edit and store all my media. I was recommended by Shane the Digital Maxx Edit Vault but I am skeptical as to why the specs are not online and they do not use a 1800 number. Looked @ G-Tech but the highest they make @ 7200 in my budget is only 640gb

I am looking for something between 1tb-2tb for purely video editing. I dont want to spend more than 600.00

I have read over and over that Western Digital is not good. I have a mybook and it is okay.

Final Cut Pro :: External Hard Drive Solution For Video Editing?
I've been using Sonnet's Express Card Express Card Pro. It's fast but I've had problems with the power cable disconnecting during the work process; just general wear and tear at the base.

Can anyone recommend mobile and home-use storage solutions they LOVE? Lighter in both cases is great, but I also want one with sturdy connections.

Final Cut Pro :: Unable To Open Project File On External Hard Drive?
I see other users had this same issue, but I read all the relevant posts and they haven't helped me. basically, I created and saved a project (along with all scratch disks) on an external hard drive. then, when I closed the project and re-opened it, it was "unable to open project file." however, it looks like all the project files are still on the hard drive (capture scratch, autosave vault, etc.) so seems like this should be redeemable

I am not super amazed at the quality of the image, it's noisy. I am using HDV tapes, and I don't beleive the lighting should be causing the issue. During this time the disk is not spinning and I'm unable to force quit the application. My current work around is restarting the computer. As for troubleshooting, in System Preferences > Energy Saver, I've unchecked the option "put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible".

My SD footage is Mini DV 720x480. My HD footage is 1440x1080. Am I correct in saying that I should edit in a 720x480 anamorphic timeline and downsize the HD footage to fit? Final Cut Pro :: Combining Hard Drive And DV Footage 6.0.5
Long story short, I was a newbie and shot a documentary using both a Canon GL2 and a Canon XH-A1 and now have both DV footage (720x480) and HD shot at 1080/60i. I was wondering what sort of considerations I have to take into account in setting up FC to best handle both of these types of footage? Will I have to use compressor on the DV footage to make it 1080 or will Final Cut make all necessary adjustments to accommodate both video formats? Like I said I'm new to this and looking back I would have just shot everything in one format, but I'm stuck with the footage I now have. My understanding with FC 6.0.5 is that it can handle multiple formats in the same sequence, but I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience with multiple formats.

Final Cut Pro :: New Hardware For Hard Drive Video?
What would be a sound choice for HD video editing (Canon 5DII)? The dual 1.8GHz G5 is no longer efficient for applying special effects. Actually, the dilemma is between a 27" iMac, which would be the primary choice and seems to provide plenty of power, but has no slots for an additional USB3 card for instance, and a Mac Pro tower for it's upgradability. What else should I be aware of or would I be missing with an iMac?

Final Cut Pro :: Distribution Of Hard Drive Video
I have just finished my second project in HD. I am trying to find an acceptable way to distribute my movies. I have made blu rays and they are nearly perfect, but I want to be able to distribute my movies so they will look at least as good as they do on my Mac. I understand that Apple doesn't support blu ray, and for all we know, they may never do so. So how does Apple expect us to distribute perfect versions of our HD Final Cut projects? Or how has anyone figured out how to do this really well? My most recent project has some glow around some objects, and the glow looks beautiful when I play from FCP to my HD TV. But my blu ray discs of this sequence show rings rather than a perfect glow.
