Final Cut Pro :: Freeze Frame Is A Different Size Than The Frame From Which It Was Created?
I am working in the timeline and want to create a freeze frame so that this particular frame will play as a still in my timeline. I go to modify, make freeze frame and the frame shows up in the viewer. Then I take the frame and add it back to my timeline as a still, but I get a jump frame because the freeze frame is a different size than the last frame in the timeline from which I created the freeze frame? I used to do this all the time without issue, I am using FCP 7.0.3. Did something change, is there a bug or have I become delirious

Final Cut Pro :: Freeze Frame Into Timeline?
According to FCP's help, once I use Modify:Make Freeze Frame, I can drag it onto the Timeline or Vrowser.

Neither works. It does either or both of two things when I try to drag it from the Viewer into the Timeline: It simply moves the image's position within the frame to way off-screen, and/or it crashes FCP. The crash seemed more likely to happen if I held the mouse down in the Timeline window for a while.

I tried copy and paste too; that didn't seem to work either.

Am I misinterpreting those instructions?

Final Cut Pro :: Get General Error On Making Freeze Frame
So I started having some major problems with crashing, and trashing prefs or running utilities did nothing. I ended up exporting the XML from the final sequence, and importing it into a clean project, which stopped the crashes, but now when I try and make a Freeze Frame I get a General Error (8), and when I attempt to export my sequence it renders for a bit and then has a General Error. I have already tried trashing my preferences, and that did not help. I have run utilities, Disk Warrior and Tech Tool Pro, to no avail. And I have just trashed my render files, and am re-rendering (though I already had to do this yesterday when I imported the XML as a new sequence.

Final Cut / DVD Studio :: Pro Skipping / Freeze Frame On Chapter Markers?
I'm getting a freeze frame / hiccup on all chapter markers.... I export as quicktime (with DSP markers) from FCP to keep GOP info.... still hiccups... set end jumps to not set.... still hiccups....

I found a few threads about media quality, do I need "duplicate grade" discs for burning masters or something...?

Most direct to market DVD's that I've tested have a fade to black at beginning and end of all chapters (I'm assuming as a workaround for this issue) the only DVD I can find that has seamless chapter transitions is a major studio released DVD "Usual Suspects"

I've been scouring the web for days now and am not finding a solution... I've tried with multiple tracks, single tracks, multiple asset files, single asset files.... all with the same result... same in simulation as on burned DVD...

Final Cut / Motion :: Freeze Frame In Middle Of Clip?
For an instructional DVD, I need to be able to freeze a frame in the middle of a clip, without the sound (as I'll put up some text messages).I've ended up making copies of the clip, and using the hold condition, and trying to line them all up by hand, but this doesn't seem like an ideal way to do this. Also, is there an easy way to turn off the sound for the 'hold' part of the end of a clip? Would be nice if there were a boolean I'd overlooked, but I guess I'll have to open my "Spencer's" Motion 4 book, and try to remember how audio keyframing works?

Mac QuickTime :: How To Edit Videos Frame By Frame And Export In H264
I wish to edit some videos and then export them in H264 so I can use them on a website.

I have tried to edit with iMovie 08 but can only edit second-by-second. I want to edit frame-by-frame ie to the millisecond. And it appears that iMovie 08 does not export in H264.

I have looked at iMovie 11 which has a Precision Editor which would work to edit as I want but for that I would have to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard which I don't want. It would export H264.

I also have QuickTime Player 7 Pro but that too seems to edit only by the second not by the frame; it does however seem to produce H264

How can I edit these videos precisely and produce H264? Is there another application which would work better (and doesn't cost a fortune).

Final Cut Pro :: Random Frame Rates ?
We are capturing HD footage with a AJA Kona card at 1080i 29.97. When I open the files created in QT, it reports a random framerate of anywhere from 29.91 to 29.97. All frames are included and the files play correctly.

When I use compressor to encode these files, however, the output files will be truncated by a couple frames.., seemingly depending on the length of the clip.

If I reexport the file from QT and force it to 29.97 (instead of using "current") then import THAT into compressor, the output file includes all the frames.

Why is FinalCut/AJA/Quicktimme reporting the incorrect frame rate? What can be done to prevent this? It seems like possibly the data fork of the captured file is incorrect?

Final Cut Pro :: How To Create A Frame / Mask
The end result I am looking for is to have the final video appear to be showing through a frame/mask. I am creating a series of videos and want them all to use the same frame/mask; making it look like the video is playing from behind in the picture frame. This will get rid of the harsh 90 degree corners of the clip and show the clip in a rounded frame....

My goal is to create this mask and then just drop in different clips to create each little video.

So... what do I need to do to create this mask? Do I create an image in Photoshop (PNG?) with a particular chroma key in the middle and just key it out? Is there a way to do an Alpha Channel? Am I going down the right path?

Final Cut Pro :: Frame Rate For Shooting And Editing
We shoot with a couple of different cameras. One a JVC that shoots 720p 24 frame, and the Canon XL H1 that shoots 1080 24 frame. Or I guess to be more accurate, we're setting each camera up to shoot 24 frame. Our main client is a TV station that as of yet hasn't gone HD. So we're ingesting the video HD, and then editing in a timeline with the following settings. 720x480 NTSC DV (3:2) Pixel Aspect CCIR 601, Anamorphic, Timebase 29.97. Now most of the time, things look pretty good, but we've had some video, especially quick moves and the like, where there's what I'd describe as 'ghost like' artifacting. I suspect that we've got ourselves into trouble by shooting in 24 frame, and then editing in drop frame 29.97.

Final Cut Pro :: P2 Footage Importing As White Frame?
I know, I know. There's a million postings on this, but I haven't found one that addresses my problem exactly. When I open the files in the Log and Transfer window, it won't let me play the clips in the preview window. Then, when I click to import, and it finishes, all I get is a white screen when I open it in FCP. Next to the files, in the L&T window is a half dark circle.

Two weeks ago, I edited a project using footage from the HVX and had no problem importing. Now, when I open THAT project, all I get are white screens and the error message:"Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card."Now, again, I just used this computer two weeks ago to edit a project, so I'm wondering if it was a system or software update that is now effecting it.

I'm on FCO 6.0.6, on Leopard, running on Mac OS X 10.5.8 Intel Xeon, Quad Core with 8 GB of memory.

Final Cut Pro :: Changing The Frame Rate Of A Sequence?
So I accidently editing my project in the wrong frame rate (my footage is 59.98 while I made the sequence 23.94). This makes my footage really choppy and jumpy when i make it slow-motion.

I tried making a new sequence with the correct settings, but when I try to copy/paste my sequence into this, it just throws everything completely out of sync. And it won't let me nest the sequence since the editing time-bases are different.

Does anyone know a solution around this to get my footage onto a sequence with the correct settings, or how to change the editing time-base on my sequence?

Final Cut Pro :: Editing 2 Cameras With Different Frame Rates?
I just did a two camera shoot - unfortunately, one of the cameras recorded at 23.98 fps and the other at 29.97 fps.

I put them together in a sequence of 29.97 fps and they seemed to match up okay in terms of audio. The 24 fps seems a little jerky, but that may just be playback on my computer.

is is okay to place a 24fps clip in a 29.97 fps sequence?

on quick fixes for this kind of issue?

I plan to keep editing, but don't want to find out a week down the road that I've gone about this all wrong.

Final Cut Pro :: Last Frame Of Video Freezes When Editing?
I just got FCP up and running, and am trying to make a simple sequence with straight cuts and every edit plays back with hesitation. Files are pulled off a Samsung HMX-S16 as MPEG-4. This camera uses H.264 compression and it is set for 1080i60. I initially copied the first video files directly to my iMac hard drive, and imported from into FCP from there. I have also attempted to import directly from camera into FCP. I have the Sequence Preset Editor set up as follows (and FCP did most of these changes when I tried to edit the first piece of video):
1920x1080i (16:9)

Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square (and the video looks accurate)
Field Dominance: None (drop box is locked)
Editing Timebase: 59.94 (locked)
QuickTime Video Settings: H.264 (of course, I've tried other settings, and to render would take hours)
Video Processing: RGB Only
White Point:N/A
No Data Rate Limit
Quality: 100%
Audio: 48 kHz, 16 bit, Discrete Channels

When I play back the edited sequence, the player will reach the edit and, the last frame of video before the edit will freeze and carry into the new edit (almost like an L-cut with a freeze frame). I am editing at full res (do I need to edit at low res?). When I export to QT, those hiccups are there. There is nothing that appears to be unrendered. Is there some drive issues I don't know about? Do the render files need to be moved? Or do I need to render something? I need to get a project for work out the door by next week and I don't want to be scrambling.
