Final Cut Pro :: Dropped Frames During Playback?

So i have a problem while in Final Cut Pro that while working on my project it can't playback more then 3-4 seconds without getting interrupted by the dropped frames during playback warning. It seems to be an issue with audio and i will tell you why.

I used Logic Pro to get a loop i liked and made my adjustments to it and then bounced the loop.(I have bounced a wave,MP3 and AIFF) Then i imported the song into FCP and added it into project(the time line) and that is when the problem started. So i took the song out of the time line so no music and playback worked fine. I added a different song (a pop song from Itunes) to the timeline and it worked fine as well.

So obviously it is this loop i have bounced in wave,AIFF and MP3( i tried all 3) that is causing the problem but why? In Logic i used a sound effect in one track and the loop in the other is there any type of mix down i need to do before bouncing?

Or is this a problem in FCP something i should have checked on or off?

Final Cut Pro :: One Or More Frames Dropped During Playback
A couple of days ago I switched from FCP5 to FCP 7. In order to get acquainted with new features, I first used the same project as the one I just finished with FCP5. However, I got a problem that I never encountered before. After introducing a few basic effects and rendering, I got a message saying "one or more frames dropped during playback" and the movie in the canvas stopped.

It said that I should either turnoff unlimited RT, lower compressing data, or lower real-time audio tracks. How come I did not get this problem with FCP5, using the same computer and settings (default in each case). I am not sure I know how to deal with the suggested actions> For instance I looked RT in the manual but could not find how to turnoff unlimited RT.

Final Cut Pro :: Mixing Audio - Dropped Frames On Sequence Playback
Quick question: I mainly edit using either Prores422, HDV 1080p, or if clients have used it, the XDCAM. I tend to o a lot of fade up and downs f audio and sometimes mixing of different audio recordings on the FCP sequence. Whether from 2 different synced camera recordings, or from soundtrack, or anywhere, I find that mixing audio together and trying to play it back in fcp causes me some dropped frames. Deleting the audio, my system and hdds can playback 8 or more HD clips being mixed together without render no problem. Audio matches sequence presets and does not have to be rendered when dropped in. Something to do with audio playback quality? I've got a dollar betting Shane Ross will be the first to answer!

Final Cut Pro :: Dropped Frames On MacPro But Not On G5
I just upgraded to a MacPro 16 gig ram, & 1 TB 2nd drive. Also I have two FW800 drives I use for projects. I'm not capturing any video on the system drive. The problem is my video is not playing back smoothly and i get a dropped frames notice. This happens working in both HD and SD, even in NTSC DV. When I move the drives back to my old G5 everything runs great. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with the MacPro? I have trashed the FCP preferences, still not performing well.

Final Cut Pro :: Dropped Frames On Capture Only?
Mac Pro - Two 3.0GHz Quad Core, 8GB Ram, NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT 512MB GDDR3, 320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s, Five USB ports, Two FireWire 400 ports and Two Firewire 800 ports; 1.5TB internal RAID

Latest versions of Mac OS, X QT, and FCP (6.0.6)

My problem is that I am capturing DVCAM footage from my DSR-11 deck (originated from Sony DSR450). Have also tried capturing from a DSR-1500ap deck via the fw400 and fw800 ports on the front of the mac and I am getting dropped frames on capture.

I have the capture scratch set to the 1.5TB internal raid

I have tried and double checked every setting from reading the many posts on dropped frames - but to no avail.

The DVCAM footage was recorded without proper timecode (time of day code only). As such - I have also attempted to capture the footage as "non controllable device" - but am still getting the dropped frames.

Could the fact that there is no timecode - only "time of day" be causing this issue?

Other info:

I have got "Abort Capture on Dropped Frames" ticked.

I have got on timecode break set to "warn after capture"

I am capturing by the "capture now" button (no logging etc)

The drop does not occur at a timecode break.

It is intermittent. For example, got dropped frames after ~ 5 mins.
I then rewound the tape and started again and it captured for ~ 20 mins before getting dropped frames again.

I have ruled out the tape - as I have tried this on numerous tapes. However - the one thing they have in common is "Time of Day" code rather than continous timecode.

The only devices connected to my mac are the deck and a 23" Apple Cinema display - via firewire and usb.

I have double checked the easy setup and all seems ok - pal etc.

Final Cut Pro :: Rendering Causes Dropped Frames?
I'm working on a video art project and the trouble I have occurs during places where I've rendered my transitions between clips. Often, I'm getting a window that reads: "One or more frames were dropped during playback. If this occurs frequently, try:

-turning off "Unlimited RT".

-lowering your compression data rate.

-closing open sequences.

-lowering the preference for real-time audio tracks.

-increasing the speed of your system and/or disk drives and/or network connection

(I'm a fairly new student to Final Cut Pro- but I've been editing short videos for a semester now. I'm using a Mac OS X 10.4.11) Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I may be doing wrong here? I know I have turned off "unlimited RT" (but I don't really know what that means anyways) and I don't know how to lower my compression data rate or anything else... if that may be the problem.

Basically the video is not smooth when I try viewing an exported quicktime movie of my sequence too. It has been glitching up like pixelating, flashing green colors, and playing back and forth. The audio plays well though!

Final Cut Pro :: Dropped Frames Over Text?
I'm cutting an XDCAM EX project (1080/30p) and FCP has started dropping frames when the playhead moves over text. The text is normal FCP text. No drop shadow. Nothing special. Grayish-green render bar.

It doesn't drop frames when playing over video clips in the timeline.

I've tried changing the RT settings, playback quality & frame rate settings, closing sequences, etc. Nothing helps.

All of the project's media is on a FW800 drive.

I've cut dozens of projects in various flavors of HD (including XDCAM EX) & SD and this is the first time this has happened.

Final Cut Pro :: Dropped Frames Only On 720p Sequences?
This has me stumped and very frustrated. Shooting 720p 60, sequence matches the clips, but I keep dropping frames every few seconds. And of courseI get the window saying I am dropping frames but I have tried everything the window says to try. Switch off unlimited RT, close sequences, blah ,blah. Nothing works. Here is what is really strange. It doesn't happen on 1080i projects. I have a fast Mac Pro, external drives, plenty of ram. What am I doing wrong? I have turned off external video, that did not help. And if I disable the pop up warning, the cursor keeps moving but the video stalls. It is dropping frames, but I have no idea how to fix the situation. This all happened when I purchased the new JVC 700 camera and started shooting 720. I started a post a few weeks ago on this problem and thought I had it fixed. Not so. My vendor has no clue.

Final Cut Pro :: Dropped Frames Error Using ESATA RAID
I am outputting a 90 min show to dvcam. This is the first time I'm outputting to tape from my new alleged high speed raid/eSATA setup. The system consists of an other world computing (OWC), mercury elite Qx2 enclosure w/4-2TB drives (8TB total) raid 0 interfaced using a highpoint rocketraid 2314 (4 external eSATA PCI-e raid controller). The controller card is in slot 4. I have a kona 3 card in slot 3.

The problem is upon output, fcp aborts after a couple minutes giving the error message that says it aborted because 1 or more frames were dropped during output. RT extreme has determined these dropped frames were caused by slow discs.
1)Increase the speed of your discs
2)Decrease the # of RT layers. Limit RT bandwidth in user prefs.

Well I've done this type of outputting dozens of times previously using my internal 3TB RAID (3-1TB drives) without a problem and in fact after numerous aborts, copied the project over to my internal drives and the project output perfectly. So I'm left with the problem of why it keeps aborting using the OWC Qx2 raid/highpoint 2314 combo. I have only one sequence open. the problem is not evident when editing. you'd think there'd be plenty of bandwidth to output dvcam (4MB/sec). I've even used it to edit multi-cam dvcprohd and it seems to work fine (which I output making QT movies).

I've run a bunch of speed tests on the drive including quickbench & the AJA system test and everything seems fine with the drive capable of reading & writing upwards of 240MB/sec. it almost seems somethings kicking it out during output. I have spotlight set to ignore that drive. reformatted with journalling off. Spent tons of time on the phone with OWC tech support. they've been very helpful and think it may be the controller card. Only problem is their 30 day warranty has expired on the highpoint card and they can't take it back and highpoint customer support is not very user friendly.

Final Cut Pro :: Dropped Frames Error - Plug In / Unplug Headphones
If I have the audio set to output through the front headphone jack and I either plug in or unplug my headphones while a timeline in FCP is playing I will get a dropped frame error. We have several identical MacPros and this happens on all of them. If I change the audio output to the audio jack in the back of the tower, any unplugging or plugging in either of the front or back audio jacks while a timeline is playing does not cause this drop frames error.

Final Cut Pro :: Dropped Frames When Capturing Digital Betacam From Sony J-30 Deck?

How can I get around this? Should I try using the SDI connections instead? Also, I was instructed to capture by setting the deck as a non-controllable device and then using the DV NTSC 48 KHz setting. Is this correct? What am I doing wrong?

Final Cut Pro :: Dropped Frames On 720p Projects - 1080i Working Fine
This is an ongoing problem that I really need to address. Using the new JVC 700 camera that shoots in native QT files. All seems fine. Started shooting in 720p 60 and having major problems dropping frames during playback. If I turn the warning off, video freezes and cursor continues. Turn warning on, and playback stops. So I said screw it and tried going back to 1081i. No problems at all. Doesn't matter if I shoot in 1920 x 1080 or 1440 x 1080. No problems. But, 720p sequences will simply not work. I have a fast enough system. Sonnet drives, Kona 3, fast machine. My sequence settings and clip settings match in both cases. I seem to be doing everything right but I am stumped. it has to be a setting but I have no idea what I have done wrong. You guys are the best, there has to be a simple answer.

Final Cut Pro :: Dropping Frames During Playback
Running Final Cut Studio 3 on below system. Just bought a brand new 1TB FW800 LaCie d2 Quadra External HD which I bought thinking it would be the fastest I could afford (FW800/16MB ('or more') Cache and 7200rpm). I have cut a short music sequence of around 2mins, 1 video track, 2 Audio Tracks (1 x stereo mp3). I cannot playback the sequence in full without getting error message(s) about 'Dropped Frames During Playback'. This happens when fully rendered (there is only one colour filter and speed is 50% for slomo effect). I would be surprised if this system couldn't handle something so simple as what I am trying to do.

Recently swapped over from Avid and although I am loving FCP, this issue is beginning to grate. Losing the Avid Mojo means I have not only I lost external monitor (a big minus but I was willing to put up with that) but also a shed load of video processing power? Still I was heavily advised I didn't need a Mac Pro and couldn't afford one anyway. A colleague runs FCS2 on a 20" iMac from 2008 with 500GB version of same drive and doesn't seem to have the same issues. I have heard about turning the error message off and changing items in the RT drop-down of the Timeline, but what about if I want to ETT/PTV? I need high quality and can't be doing with dropped frames.

Final Cut Pro :: Drop Frames And Smooth Playback?
I have been away from editing for awhile but now I have a project that I need to finish quick. I'm working on a slideshow for a recently deceased relative. I'm trying to create my content in 1080p resolution. I'm creating content from stills that I have been animating in either Motion or After Effects. My problem is when I try to play the files back on the FCP timeline. I have tried using several different ways to save the files but nothing is creating smooth playback.(Animation, Pro Res 422, Motion file(rendered)) I keep getting the Drop Frame warning. I'm only using internal SATA drives. I have a 250GB drive that I have my apps installed on with 115GB free. I have my media and project file stored on a 750GB drive with 500 GB free. The picture is 50% size. When I render it out there are stutter frames as if FCP is rendering some of the frames twice. When I took the project to the clients system and rendered it there it was fine. Smooth playback. Could this be a 10.5.7 thing? The client is running 10.5.6. Final Cut / DVD Studio :: Still Frames Not Staying Still...why Flickering Occur With Freeze Frames
in Final Cut I made some still frames using the Modify--Make Freeze Frame command, then used a cross dissolve between the two images in the sequence. These are the only still frames in the sequence, the rest is video.

I've exported to Quicktime movie, then brought that movie into DVD Studio Pro, created the project and burned the disc. When watching the DVD all video footage is fine except for--the still images, which flicker like crazy. It is a long dissolve, nearly a minute, but I've had this problem on other projects where the freeze frame lasts only a few seconds and there is no transition used at all.

Any idea why this flickering (ghosting?) would occur with freeze frames? Know how to fix it?

The problem I'm having is while playing games on my mac. I currently play games on steam such as left 4 dead 1 and 2 and city of heroes as well as Star Craft 2. I have all the current updates.

The graphics, at random times, (usually for the 1st 5-10mins after starting the game up) the graphics will drop the frame rate extremely low and then pick it back up repeatedly. so its like.... Slow, normal, slow, normal, slow, normal. It alternates like that ever 1-2 seconds and stays like that for a variable amount of time before it goes back to normal. This happens usually in the 1st 5-10 minutes of the game although it does happen at random times afterwards. I have a friend who has the 13in version of this computer and he complains about the same thing.

Another thing is that the problem is getting worse. lasting longer and what not. I dont not use bootcamp or have windows installed (thats why i bought a mac).

Final Cut Pro :: Dropping Frames On Capture With Mac OS X
For the first time ever I am dropping frames on capture for a reason I cannot identify. I know all the common reasons that a system would be dropping frames. I do not recall if I have ever captured on this system before. I have a simple DV Deck capturing DV to an external Firewire drive that has just been formatted and does pass the Kona System Test with over 30 mb/s.

Final Cut Pro :: Unable To Capture - Dropping Frames?
I am a video student, and been editing and running my mac, with FCP 6.0.6 for about 6 months know working on all sorts of projects. Recently say the last 3-4 days I have been unable to capture, it says I am dropping frames after only 2-3 seconds, then slows down and crashes. It appears to me that it has come after a firmware upgrade several nights ago. I have replaced all the firewire cables, different tapes including ones I did a week ago no problem and even attempted to capture in iMovie, all with no luck. I am running an older GL1 and have not had a chance to test it on another computer yet.
