Final Cut Pro :: Inaccurate Background Color In Composite Video
I have a number of short videos that I want to post on a web site. I have pulled a good key and placed the video on a white background. I used Mstte>Solid color for the background. The color is "Web Safe" FF (255). I export with the Animation codec and them convert to flash using DVKitchen. When I place the video on the web page which is also FF (white), I can see a slightly gray rectangle around the video. If I check the background color in the exported movie, it is "FC". After the flash conversion it is "FB". Is there a way to get FCP to export an accurate color?

Final Cut / Soundtrack Pro :: Removing Background Noise On One Of Two Tracks
I'm having trouble with one instance though: I have footage shot with a microphone into only one channel of the camera. In FCP, I highlight that channel of audio and "send to" STP just as I have other clips. This time, however, no matter what I seem to try, both left and right audio channels show up in STP and I can't seem to separate them in order to remove the hiss from only one channel.

If I proceed as normal and select a portion of the hiss to set as "noise print" I can only select both tracks, not only the track I want. Probably a matter of a simple button, but I don't know STP well enough and the manual was no help. Anyway, continuing with the process to "reduce noise" and adjusting the parameters I hear almost no difference when turning the filter on and off.

Final Cut / Soundtrack Pro :: Unable To Remove Background Noise
I recently interviewed a man outside without a microphone. (Bad idea, I know.) There is a continuous noise in the background that I can't seem to separate from his talking. I've used both the waveform view and the Frequency Spectrum view to try and isolate the noise but I can't pick it out.

I've done a noise print multiple times and tried to reduce the noise, but I either can't get rid of it or my speaker sounds like he's underwater. I've tried adjusting the amplitude and adjusting the noise threshold, while being careful with the reduction bar to prevent the underwater voice, but it didn't work.

Final Cut Pro :: Creating Video For Web?
I'm currently putting together some videos in FCP for our new website. I've used FCP a lot for creating video for DVD's and exporting to .mov but converting to flash is relatively new to me.

I am using the On2 Flix FLV exporter to export direct from FCP to a 704 x 396 flv file.

Can someone clarify how I should set up my sequence in FCP to get the best quality results? All the source material is DV PAL for video (720 x 576 anamorphic) and PNG-24 for still images (in this case a background which I will input text over in FCP). Should I be setting all my sequences to 704 x 396, and what pixel aspect ratio should I use seeing as it is for flash/web use?

Also, in the Sequence Settings dialog box what should I set as the Compressor settings (dv pal/h.264 etc) as flv does not appear as an option?

Final Cut Pro :: Creating Subtitles By The Thousands
I began a documentary series in 2007, and am now in the final phase of production. This final phase involves making 7 alternate versions in other languages. I have the script translated. I now have the narration recorded in those languages. But the dialogue of the subjects will remain in English, and subtitled in those languages. Currently, I'm copying the dialogue text to the clipboard, then using paste, cut, paste, cut and so on...to create subtitle files in Livetype, then placing the files manually within the film segments.

This chore is blowing my mind! The total subs for the film is about 500. Then to lay them into 5 more versions; 2500! Is there an easier way to 'hardcode' subtitles??? To see the films as they are, in English and Portuguese, check here...

For example, for some reason FCP keeps creating a new folders in folders - Autosave Vault in Autosave Vault, etc. Even though I save my project to a different folder, I have to find my last project digging through the Autosave Vault folder in the second Autosave Vault, to reopen my project. Final Cut Pro :: Best Settings For Creating New Projects
I am using for a couple of month a Sony HXR-NX5U NXCAM Professional Camcorder, and I recently encountered two problems:

1) I noticed that sometimes, when I import sequences in FCP projects, the image is distorted. I guess I must have chosen the wrong setting when I create my projects. I am shooting 1980x1080 it is a NTSC camcorder
2) After compressing with compressor, I wanted to send the m2v file to a DVDSP NTSC project and I got a message saying that my sequence could not be imported in the NTSC project because it was encoded as PAL! I do not remember selecting PAL as my cam is NTSC!

My questions are: What is the best setting to use when I create new FCP projects. What did I do wrong when I compressed . I thought that it would be automatically NTSC. Should I choose NTSC somewhere ? the only NTSC choice that I saw was not the right format.

Final Cut Pro :: Project Silent - Added Background Music Not Playing
I have a project I've been working on, and of course, it's due tomorrow. I wrote some background music to go with my video, and when I went to insert the first new audio clip, FCP refused to play any audio. The whole project was now silent. I tested the clips independently. iTunes played them fine, they played fine on their own, and even iMovie had no problem. Even the video clips that I've played hundreds of times play fine everywhere but in Final Cut. I restarted, re-installed, and still nothing. I deleted the clips from the project, but no good. I loaded another project, but now it's silent as well. Now for the really weird part: when I messed with the audio-device settings in Final Cut, the "Viewer" would intermttently play a given clip's audio - once. Then nothing. "Canvas" won't play audio at all, and even the meters are dead. I was up all night trying to get this to work, but my dead-line is drawing nigh.

Final Cut Pro :: Red Text On Black Background All Blurred In Project
We're having a bit of problems with text on our projects. I've tried exporting in different ways but it is still the same issue. Basically I have created some of the text in FCP 7 with the text generator - we are using two colours throughout the project (red and white) The white text on a black background looks great and has sharp lines whereas the red text on a black background is all blurred into each other; like it has been smudged.

Also when the white text is on a red background it does the same thing and looks blurry. We have also done some text in motion 4 that is rotating around a world I created the text in white is sharp but the text in red is blurred again. I'm doing some tests at the moment but I was wondering hy the coloured text is doing this and it is happening in both FCP and Motion? My project settings are: 1920 x 1080 - HDTV 1080i (16:9), square pixel ratio, 25fps. Sometimes the text is moving other times it is still on the screen.

Final Cut Pro :: How To Remove Warbling Background Sound When Exporting To MP4
I started exporting a FCP video to MPEG-4 via. the compressor. For some bizarre reason, I always hear a warbling sound in the background when I export a video - this makes MPEG-4 creation completely unusable.

This is driving me absolutely crazy as I need to create a video for the web. Everything else worked perfectly - size was good, video was very clear, only this stupid warbling sound. I did not record live video ... I only used existing video that was in the FCP project and when I play the project in FCP, I don't hear this strange sound. Also when I export to other formats like Quicktime or even DVD (Via. the compressor) I also don't hear it.

Final Cut Pro :: Way To Do The Go To White Effect?
is there any way to do the go to white effect. i'm not talking the dip to/from color or whatever. the effect i'm looking for is more like a key that goes to white than a just a color flash. the bloom filter sort of does it but you have to apply the filter to both the out-going and in-coming scenes. it would be more effective if there was a transition instead of 2 filters.

Final Cut Pro :: FCP Not Creating Render Files
I'm working on a project that is a bit computer intensive. I have thousands of 3k still images and timelapses. I did a bunch of work yesterday and rendered it. I previewed it before I went home and everything was fine. When I opened the project this morning everything that I rendered yesterday needed to be rendered again. There was no missing render files window upon launching FCP. You can imagine how annoyed I was. I looked in the scratch disk (RAID>Final Cut Pro Documents>Render Files>Project) and there were no render files. I looked around in the system drive, user folders, time machine drive, everywhere and I couldn't find render files for this project.

Anyway, I re-rendered some of what I had done the day before and then started working on more of my segment, rendering some bits while I worked until I got the "General Error" error message. I get these from time to time and a restart usually fixes the problem. So I saved, quit and restarted my machine.

When I relaunched FCP, everything needed to be rendered AGAIN. No message of missing render files. At this point I opened a window on my laptop and through the network I looked to see if render files were being created on my Mac Pro scratch disk while I rendered 1 second of the timeline at a time. FCP was creating some render files but not enough to correspond with what I was doing. Again I got the "General Error" and I restarted. When I relaunched FCP this time only some of the stuff I rendered needed to be re-rendered and I noticed that some of the render files that were created before the restart were missing.

I'm also getting the "General Error" message quite a bit with this project.

Final Cut Pro :: Creating New Media Files From Subclips
I captured the first 15 minutes of a tape and made 7 subclips for various scenes and sections. Now I want to create new media files from those subclips. I have selected the subclips and opened Media Manager. The subclips do not use all of the original file and I can see that the 'Modified' size is smaller than the 'Original' size. I have tried numerous settings (I followed the manual for the first few attempts), but have yet to yield multiple new media files. I have had it dupicate the selected clips into a new project, but that just gives me the same subclips referencing a new slightly smaller media file named for the first clip of the group. What do I need to do to create new media files for each subclip? I am using FCP7. It has been a while, but I remember doing this without a problem in FCP6. Is there a bug in FCP7?

Final Cut Pro :: Creating A New Project With Media Manager?
This one should be obvious but I can't quite figure it out: I used media manager to recompress my project into a smaller one. Media manager did a nice job with that and placed all the files into a new folder BUT - where is the actual project file?? If I use the actual fcp project file from the original- the settings are all different and it told me that some media files are missing or too short. Doesn't media manager create a new project file that works with the new recompressed files that it just created?

Final Cut Pro :: Creating MultiCam Clip Or Sequence
We hired a team of professional video graphers to film a concert I was helping produce. The team had 3 identical cams, all set to the same exact settings, all had their timecodes synced (jammed) as well before they started. Two of the cams were locked down, the third was roving. The original intent was for them to simply film the event start to finish, but there were many breaks between sets that they didn't film. As a result, for each camera, I have some 24 to 26 clips. Audio was recorded as a by product by each cam, but we have a master pair of audio tracks we'll be actually using (i.e. not the ones recorded in the cams). These may be helpful for sync, but hoping that's not the path I have to take. I'm fairly new to FCP, using version 7.0x, but am comfortable with many of the basics (and have successfully created a few short music videos already).

I need to know if there's a way to import all the clips from a given camera into the timeline, so that they make up a proper, single clip. Said differently, I want each of the clips from the camera to be placed on the timeline, according to the "master clock" of that camera. This would mean that there'd be 26 clips, in a single video track, with gaps between them, correlating to when recording was paused. I'm hoping there's a way for FCP to do this for me automatically, since the timecodes are already reliable, so I don't have to manually place these in the video track. If there's a "yes" for question #1, I want to then do this for the two other camera's clips, one video track for each. And then - find out the best way to make this a multicam sequence. I've watched a number of tutorial movies (lynda.com, creativecow.com) for creating multicam clips and/or sequences, but haven't figured out how to get all these clips lined up first.

Final Cut Pro :: Creating DMG Out Of P2 Cards - Any Downside?
My students are using a PowerPC G5 for off loading P2 Cards. They have all watched Shane Ross's P2 video from the Cow but they still put card folders inside other card folders and they create a mess. I'm trying to prevent their stupidity the best I can. That in and of itself is a full time job. We have P2 card readers (Panasonic AJ-PCD20) at the transfer stations. I would like them to create a DMG of their card to help prevent them from messing with the card structure. Is this good practice or is their some downside that I'm missing.

My idea was to use Disk Utility. They insert the card and after it mounts highlight it in Disk Utility and create a DMG on the students external HD via FW800. I'm open to all suggestions. We just don't have intel machines so P2CMS doesn't help in this instance. No more P2 Genie as well. I just want to make the workflow more idiot proof. I spend a lot of my time doing that here. Final Cut / Soundtrack Pro :: Audio Editing - Removing Coughs And Background Conversation?
Hello. I am very new to audio editing. I have a video interview that I I would like to remove a distant, third-party cough and some background conversation that bled over from an adjacent room. The video was shot by someone using a simple FLIP camera, so the audio track is pretty basic.

I see no way to make Soundtrack Pro discern between the voice of the person being interviewed and the background voices. They just sort of blend. I've tried using the spectrum view, but I am probably too inexperienced to use that effectively.

Export QuickTime Movie (not self contained) --> Compressor (DVD best quality settings)

This seems to work fine. I am currently exporting sequences in HDV 1080i60 and they take an extremely long time to export into QT movies. Because of that, I am editing a sequence, waiting for it to export, then dropping it into Compressor. At this point, FCP is available for editing again while Compressor is working, so I repeat the process. However, when I export to QT from FCP while Compressor is still running in the background it seems to take much longer to export.
