Final Cut Pro :: Can Change The Bitrate When Use The "Compressor" High Quality

I am having problems with the amount of video in DVD SP and I think I need to lower the bitrate when I compress out of FCP. Can you change the Bitrate when you use the "Compressor" High Quality setting?

Final Cut Pro :: Trying To Get High Quality Still Image
I am trying to get a high quality still image from a 16mm film I completed years ago. I have had it transfered to digital format and brought it in to Final Cut Pro Studio 2. The distributor (Canyon Cinema) wants a high resolution image for the website. 600-dpi or better. When I create a still it comes out 72. How can I increase the resolution of the image for distribution on their website?

Final Cut Pro :: Exporting Video In High Quality?
I need to play something on a dvd player and for some reason my exporting makes the video not look too good. when people wave to the camera you see lines, etc. I am working in FCP.

Frame size 720 X 480 NTSC DV (3:2)
Pixel Aspect Ratio NTSC - CCIR 601,
Filed Lower (even)
Compressor DV/ DVCPRO -NTSC.

Looks good in FCP but when I export it, I am losing quality. I really don't know much about exporting (obviously).

Final Cut Pro :: Video Quality High Setting Grayed Out
My G5 has suffered several crashes and kernel panics the last few days. After the first time, I repaired permissions and went back to editing, when I discovered picture playing at poor quality. (FCS 2. HDV, source and timeline. Everything rendered 100% and at best settings.) I tried rerendering, both in HDV and ProRes - same results. But when playing same file in QT, outside of FCP, it looked normal. To try and resolve this issue, after speaking with techies at local Apple store, I ran the hardware utility software - everything passed - then reinstalled OS X.

After updating everything, I opened FCP and was met with the same poor picture quality - this after months of working on the same project, with same machine, and no problems. Now, I am noticing that my RT switch on the timeline is playing picture quality 'Dynamic' - with 'High' greyed out. I went to the System settings and changed to 'High'. Tried playing again in the timeline - only to see that it has defaulted yet again to Dynamic. When I play the file in the canvas (not timeline), same poor quality.

Final Cut Pro :: Making High Quality Stills From Sequence
I am trying to make the highest quality still I can from a 1920x1080 HD FCP sequence. What still format (PITC, JPEG, TARGA, etc.) will give me this. TARGA seems to give me the largest (8MB) file but I am not sure that makes it the best. I have tried multiple different combination and they look pretty darn good but I want to make sure I am getting the best output I can. Is there a better way to do this other than Export> Quicktime Conversion> Still Image>?. Would it be helpful to be able to import into Photoshop and play with it there? I can't imagine that will increase the quality.

Final Cut Pro :: High Quality HD Footage Need To Compress/export To Fit Onto A DVD?
worth of HQ, HD footage (with burnt in time code) that I need to fit onto a playable DVD (that will be burnt using DVD Studio Pro)

Normally, I'd just export using QuickTime movie - however after doing so, my file size was 89.52 GB, which obviously is huge.

What is the best way to go about compressing or exporting this so that it will fit onto a DVD or Dual Layer DVD.

I need to send this to the client, and the quality really doesn't have to be amazing, as this is just for them to view and choose which footage they want to keep, etc. The quality need to be decent enough to view, essentially.

I used FCP and DVD Studio pro -- but really just basic stuff for the most part.

Final Cut / Compressor :: Extra Tweaks For Best Quality SD DVDs
I'm shooting AVCHD (AVCCAM) 1080p/30 video with a Panasonic HMC150, transcoding to ProRes, and editing in FCP 6.0.5. My goal is letterboxed SD DVDs with the best possible quality. When finished editing, I make a QuickTime movie (not self contained) and drop it into Compressor; I then choose a DVD best quality setting depending on length. In Frame Controls, I set Resizing and Deinterlacing to Best, Field Order to None/Progressive, and uncheck Adaptive Details. I submit the job, and wait; then I bring the files into DVDSP, and design my DVD. My results are looking very good--they're way better than with the 1080i/60 HDV footage I was generating previously. I'm just wondering if I could be doing anything else to improve the quality of my final discs.

Final Cut / DVD Studio :: Best Way To Get High Quality Menus?
What's the best way to get good looking text in SD DVD projects. I normally make simple menus wih overlays in Photoshop exporting to DVDSP as flattened .psd or jpegs. Sometimes I generate text in DVDSP and just have the text change colour when selected and activated. The only thing I've noticed there is that certain color settings look edgy when the button (text) is selected but I assume that's just a shortcoming of doing it this way. Apart from that the quality looks OK but not brilliant. What's the recommended way of doing it, can't find anything in he manual.

Final Cut / Compressor :: Unacceptable Quality Output From SD DVD Settings?
I have some .mov files from FCP of some HD content that I need to put into a DVD. I am able to use DL (Dual Layer) so I have a decent amount of room.

I have tried the compressor settings for Best Quality 90 Min DVD and I have activated the Frame Controls option, which I was told will increase the quality.

I have also tried running it with the Frame Controls option off.

Regardless, the quality of the video I get for the DVD is just not acceptable. Text titles and such that are clear as a bell in the MOV file look on the MPEG-2 video out of compressor like they were generated on an Atari 800, blocky, aliased badly and the video picture quality is overall grainy and very aliased (or un-anti-aliased ---however it is said).

I know I can't get HD quality out of an SD disk, but there is just no way the output from this to a DVD should be no better than this. I did try the HD DVD settings just to see the quality difference and it was profound. The HD DVD looked great. Not as good as the HD content .MOV files, but good enough. The SD quality is just no where near acceptable.

Not sure when it begins exactly, but by hour 2 it is very bad. The first hour is sharp and detailed, hour 2 is blocky and looks like a bad mpeg1 video from years past.

The video is of an indoor memorial service so very little motion and plenty of light.

Encoding these bad sections independently works fine (ie 5 40 minute chunks) so it isn't the source video.

Final Cut / Compressor :: Making Best Quality Video For SD DVD From Red One Camera
My client used RED ONE camera for filming. He used FCP to edit it then exported it in 1920x1080 Apple ProRes 422 (HQ). He sent it to me by mail (external HD) for me to use that QT movie Apple ProRes 422 for Compressor to compress it into SD DVD MPEG-2 5.0 2-pass with Progressive (Best Quality). I used DVD Studio Pro and found it very unsatisfied with the quality of video because I'm seeing a lot of pixels around those letters during open/close credits. Not only that, I also see a lot of bad interlaced video. I set it up for Progressive and YET I'm still seeing interlaced in it. How can I make it the best quality video for SD DVD from Red One camera or Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)? I know Blue-ray is the best answer but a lot of my costumers don't own blue-ray dvd player. (I'm sure you're aware that HD DVD don't work on any DVD players, only on Mac computer which is very unfortunate for me!)

If I wanted to take 300 clips from a DSLR and compress them to ProRes (and save in a new destination folder) without changing the names (i.e. appending the transcode type) how would I do this without having to edit the name of each clip individually? The reason I want to do this is easy reconnect for Proxy vs 422 files in FCP. Batch compress to one directory as Proxy and to another directory (separate batch) as 422. If the files have the codec type appended FCP won't reconnect to all files automatically.

Final Cut / Compressor :: How To Change 'video Frame Size'
I'm completely new to Compressor (just bought Compressor 3.5) but I have an immediate need to use it. I am trying to make a 'Multiclip' in FCP, but I get a message saying, "Unable to make a Multiclip. The video frame sizes don't match."

Clip A is HDV 1080i60 Dimensions:1440 X 1080. I am trying to conform that to all the other clips which are Apple ProRes 422 Dimensions: 1920 X 1080.

Basic question: are 'Dimensions' the same as 'video frame size'?

I was successful in transcoding my HDV 1080i into a Apple ProRes file, but the new file still is 1440 X 1080. Is this why FCP says that my 'video frame sizes don't match?'

Final Cut / Compressor :: Compressor Fails During Export To M2v From FCP After Update
Time is of the essence here for me. For the last two days I've been trying to figure out what's going wrong after updating/upgrading to FCStudio 3. All software is up to date via software update.

Basically, I edit in FCP 7 as usual. Usually have about a 90-118 minute or so presentation. Then, like usual, I export to m2v for DVDSP using Compressor. In this new version you 'send to' compressor. Then, compressor has an updated layout that took me a little getting used to, but I think I'm doing everything right. All the settings for exporting to m2v seem to match what I used to do. But, after an hour or so into exporting, FCP quits and the batch job (video and audio), fails.

I found one topic where somebody was having a similar issue, and the workaround there was to export the video file first to QT as a self-contained movie. Then import that into Compressor and export to MPEG-2 as usual. Well, I tried that and it also failed.

I am at a complete loss and need help ASAP. Told my client their production would ship Friday. So I'm down to the wire here. I hope there's an easy solution to this. Frankly, I'm very frustrated. What used to be an easy task exporting to m2v using Quicktime conversion has been a nightmare after nightmare with Compressor. All versions.

Final Cut / Compressor :: Compressor 3.5 - Doesn't Burn DVD - Preset
I send a movie to Compressor, select the "Burn DVD" preset, let the project encode, wait for the burn process to begin, get to "1 minute remaining" on the screen, then BAM! Compressor goes from "1 minute remaining" to 2, 3, 4+ minutes remaining. And the DVD I've been waiting for isn't burned. I look at the unrecorded part of the DVD and only see my reflection (I take this as the unburned DVD mocking me, as I sit/stare at it, as if I were in some sort of "stupid" contest with the thing). I let the machine sit for several minutes to an hour. Nothing. I've changed DVD brands. Nothing. I tell the machine that everything is going to be alright. Nothing.

My FCP system was acting very buggy lately (relating to fonts). I created a new user account and it solved all my issues FCP/Motion font issues. But this Compressor issue is something new. Now, if I go back to my old account, I get the same hang up with Compressor. The Create DVD Preset is encoding my stuff, but not burning my stuff. In the interim, I'm taking the encoded assets into DVDSP, and creating a menu-less Video DVD. Taking comments, questions and suggestions about how to solve this issue.
