Connecting 3 Displays To An IMac 27" Mid-2011
May 24, 2012
i was wondering if it's possbile to connect 2 thunderbolt displays (daisy chained) and a DVI screen to the second thunderbolt port at the same time on an iMac 27" mid2011?I tried searching, but I didn't find anything about it. At the moment I have 1 thundebolt and the DVI screen (55" HDTV Full HD) using both thunderbolts, but if I could connect a second thunderbolt display, or eventualy a Cinema LED 27" it would be very useful.

I've just ordered an i5 Mac Mini and while it's destined to be used as a media-centre/ streamer connected to my TV via HDMI, initially I want to hook it up to the display on my 2011 iMac. Can one of you clever bods point me in the direction of what cable I need, and also what do I need to do to the iMac to make it behave as just a monitor? Is it just a matter of plugging in the cables and off I go?

My late 2011 MBP (lion 10.7.3) used to connect to external displays through a VGA cable. It has stopped doing so since recently and I am trying to find out why, and how to fix it. The only changes I've applied to the system are (1) connect to a Thunderbolt display and (2) installed gfxCardStatus. The MBP and Thunderbolt display work flawlessly together, with network, USB, and firewire connections operating. gfxCardStatus has noticably increased my battery life (so I recommend it) and I'm aware that it needs to be in dynamic or dedicated GPU mode for external displays. The VGA external displays do not work when gfxCardStatus is running in either dynamic or dedicated mode, or when I disable gfxCardStatus completely so that it does not show on the process list.Â

Is it possible to get the following:
1. miniDP -> DVI
2. DVI -> VGA
3. DVI -> HDMI
and connect different displays. Or will there be troubles because of the double converters (first to DVI and then to VGA or HDMI).

I just installed Mac Office 2011 and am having trouble connecting my hotmail account to Outlook. I go to add my hotmail account and everything seems to work, but it does not show up on the left side under inbox or anything. When I go back into settings, it shows the hotmail as my default account, but I can't see any of my messages. Also, periodically alerts pop up in the bottom right hand corner showing "new" messages, however they are really, really old emails from my hotmail account.
I can click on the alert and read the old message, but I can't find where those messages are on Outlook. I have successfully added my gmail account and my home university's account. One other thing to mention, when I delete the hotmail acct and try to add it again, it always adds "On my computer" under the inbox section. This "inbox" keeps popping up with old old emails. So I go into preferences/general and hide it.

I would LOVE to have an Apple screen , but its simply out of my financial league at the moment. So I am currently looking at 2 Dell screens, one 23" and one 24". What I am wanting to know is, does the display port on my MBP (early 2011, bog standard basic 13") carry sound with it if I am not using Thunderbolt, or will I need to plug something into the headphone jack to get sound. Its not something I need *all* the time, just occasionally, so its not a huge deal if it wont do it, I'll simply use a headset for those times. The input options on the Dells are DVI, VGA and Display Port. No HDMI on the models I'm considering (perhaps I should consider one, for this?)Â

At my company we are using windows exchange server 2003. Now my boss bought a new macbook pro (snow leapard) with Mac office 2011 installed. Apparently Outlook '11 and exchange server '03 doesn't work together. Only exchange server 2007 and up are compatible. Is there any way around this? My boss hates Office 2008. Can't blame him

This is my first led-backlit display and the first big glossy display I have used. First of all, the display is amazing because of how accurate it is and I love using it. Then to the question:The display is sort of alive, stick with me i'll try to explain it as best as I can, english is not my native language
It kinda makes this very little brightness pumping that old crt tv's and monitors did. Same kind of effect but in a lot smaller effect, but you can sorta notice it's there. I have had none of those display image disappearance/flicker problems at all, display is working very well but I'm wondering if this kind of effect is normal with LED displays and does the glossy display enhance it/let more through? I'm thinking this might add to eye strain in long use but not sure(just like crt's did).

My iMac G5 resizes its display on its own. The screen will suddenly go dark, then reappear in a smaller size with a black band around the edges. Eventually it will resize again to the correct display. I found when this happens it is "seeing" two displays, both the iMac, and an obviously non-existent "VGA Display." This doesn't happen all that often, and othewise everything seems to be working perfectly. Is this a software issue I can take care of, or an early warning sign of something more perfidious?

I have a newer iMac 24" bought in 11/2007. I have the mini-dvi to vga converter and when I connect it to a external tv capable of 1024x768, the iMac freezes and does nothing. I disconnect and the screen turns blue and the flickers back on and everything works. I have made the connection then booted up, and I have tried every resolution all the way down to 640x480, same thing it just locks up the screen, but again as soon as I unplug the mini-dvi to vga cable from the iMac it flicks to a blue screen and everything comes back. I have reviewed dmesg nothing, and revieiw /var/log/messages. Is there any troubleshooting I can do. I am old school unix/linux guy just converted my family to Apple and would like to use the display on my tv to watch my iTunes movies.

This has been going on for me for the past few months on and off, it just randomly switches the screen off but everything else works perfectly, for example if im watching a video on hulu i can still hear the sound, if im doing work on word the documents are still there, iv finally gotten video footage of it. url...To turn it back on i press "ctrl + shift + eject" and then move the mouse. i have contacted Apple support on the phone they did say bring it in, just need to make an appointment. If anyone else has this problem and knows a better solution than having to keep pressing buttons to turn the screen back on please share.

My 2011 27 inch iMac which was purchased in February 2012 is not turning on. I have never had a problem with it until now. I was working on Bootcamp and when I restarted the computer, it froze at the login screen so I force restarted the computer by pressing the power button down for 10 seconds. When I restarted the computer it did not want to turn back on. The only thing that happens when I restart much computer is I hear something that normally sounds since I purchased the computer which is either the hard drive or the DVD drive but no white screen comes up. I have tried to pull the power plug for 15 seconds and then plug it back into the back of the computer and wait five seconds before turning it on and I have also tried restarting the computer while pressing command option P and R. I removed the memory sticks and put them back in properly get the computer still did not turn on. I have a 27 inch mid 2011 iMac running Mac OS X 10 7.4. It is a quad core I73.4 GHz with 16 GB of RAM 256 GB factory installed SSD +1 TB hard disk drive with the AMD 6970 and 2 GB graphics card. Sorry for the long post.!I wanted to be as descriptive as possible as I am really trying to avoid bringing it to the Apple Store because I need the computer because I go to school online and have finals this week.

We have just purchased a refurbished 2011 27" i5 iMac. It comes with 4GB of ram standard. As I don't want to waste that ram when we upgrade it, I was wondering if I could use it in my early 2009 macbook.I've checked on crucial and the macbook will accept 4GB of ram. There is a similar question on this forum, but the answer was ambiguous. I have also trawled a really useful forum on macrumors, but it wasn't clear whether it could accept it or not.

My small business has an office iMAC and a Macbook Air both running 10.6.8. The two aren't synced in any way other than that the Air can access files from the iMAC's hard drive via the network. I have 2 email accounts on the iMAC's mail and just one of them set up on the Air.Â
I've just bought a new 15" Macbook Pro running Lion. I'd like to be able to sync some folders (but definitely not all), bookmarks, iTunes and mail accounts between the iMAC and the new Macbook Pro. Ideally I'd like to be able to access the shared/synced folders when I don't have an internet connectionÂ
What's the best method?Â
Snow Leapord doesn't have iCloud does it? If not, why the **** not?Â
Is it just easiest to set up the email accounts on the new MBP as normal and then use dropbox for the folders I want to share? Can I access the with no internet connection?Â
One other question, can i link a gmail account to my Apple mail?
Dave.

So, for the last two months my iMac (27", 2,7 GHz, mid 2011, 12 GB RAM, AMD Raderon HD 6770M 512MB, running OSX Lion 10.7.3) has started to freeze during games and from time to time during youtube videos or VLC. A reboot is required, but the problem usually comes back within 5 minutes or so.Â
The game I play is usually StarCraft 2, which worked fine for about 6 months before the freezes started. Most of the time the computer just freezes but sometimes the right side of the screen is moved to the left side and the left to the right. Then the freeze occurs, the screen turns grey with small vertical stripes on it. Graphics hardware problem?Â
No swaps of the screen occurs during the freezes when watching video but everything else is pretty much the same. After a few freezes the iMac refuses to reboot for a couple of hours.Â

My iMac mid 2011 does not read the SD Card. In 'System Info' the info abou card reading device tells: 'This computer does not have integrated Apple card reading devices' (something like that, my OS is in Russian).
Worked great a couple of weeks ago, now I have that issue. Is there a way to fix that without changing my iMac's elements?

In April 2011 I bought an iMac 27 ". In November, begin the problems with gray spots in the corners. I took it to Apple technical support here in Chile and the part was replaced because the warranty was in effect.In April this year, again began to appear stains. Again I took it for service, but this time I should paid around $ 1,000 for the repair (obviously i said NO).How can a piece fails so soon and Apple doesn't takes over the situation, forcing their loyal customers (all my computers are Apple), to pay for the repair of a factory fault?Is there any legal way to force Apple to answer for the repair or replacement of the part (LCD)?
