ITunes Mac :: Sharing Library Via Time Capsule On 2 Macs And 2 IPhones?
clarify some points before I start changing our home network:

MacBock Pro, Leopard
MacBook, Snow Leopard
2 x iPhone 3G

We have a wireless network and want to integrate a TC. Aim would be to combine the two iTunes libraries on the MacBooks and move it to the TC. iPhones are synced with only an individual selection of songs via playlists.i) can both MBs access and edit the library at the same time?ii) can we continue to sync the iPhones seperately to individual playlists? (don't want to have same songs on my phone as my gf does)iii) are there any downsides/features that won't work after switching apart from library no longer backed up via Time Machine?

Aperture :: IPhoto And Aperture Sharing A Library
I want to use Aperture 3 while my wife uses iPhoto on the same computer. We have a gazillion photos in the library and I want both programs to be able to access the same photos. I've imported the iphoto library to Aperture and everything's fine.

The question is: when I import new photos into the library (via iphoto), will both programs recognize the new imports, or do I need to constantly re-import the library into Aperture for it to recognize new additions to the library?

Does anyone know how to fix this or reset Desktop Preferences?

ITunes Mac :: Home Sharing Vs Library Sharing?
I share my main music library. AirTunes works perfectly to two Airport Expresses for music in different rooms. The Remote app on the iPhone and iPad control it all perfectly and efficiently. The new Remote app for iPad is a tremendous improvement.

I am about to receive Apple TV. I turned on Home Sharing yesterday as I have read this is necessary. That makes a big change. When I start the Remote app on the iPad it takes several minutes to get started while it is loading. I have a 1.5TB Lossless library.

I don't need to copy items from one computer to another. And the music is all my own, not purchased through iTunes, so I have never needed any additional function.

Now - must I activate Home Sharing and wait through minutes of an initial load for the Remote app to get started in order to use Apple TV at all?

Is there a way for Aperture to "Add/Import" ALL of these folders AND leave the files in their current location? I can do it folder by folder, but it is time consuming & tedious. In addition are there any issues with creating the Aperture Library on the Drobo and sharing it between 2 identical MacBook Pros?

Hardware :: Sharing Same Mouse With 2 Macs Possible?
I am trying to figure out how I could share a mouse with 2 computers. One of them is a MacBook Pro and the other is a Mac Pro. If I can find a way to share both the mouse and keyboard as well that would be great. I don't have a lot of room on my desk for another mouse and I've heard of people sharing keyboards and/or their mouse. I searched the forums for something of the sort and the closest I came was a guy looking to share between a Mac and A PC. They recommended a A/B switch but if I could avoid using one of those I'd prefer it. Mostly because I don't have on at this exact moment. I thought since both of mine are Macs there might be an easier way?

Ideally I'd like to be able to share the entire computer, but I can't even seem to share individual folders. I am guessing I cannot simply add an alias (to say the pictures directory) to the 'shared' folder eh? What if I use 'windows sharing'? How to ultimately sharing the contents of each computer's HD .I have seen 'sharepoints' and it seems to add the functionality I seek, however I can't imagine that Apple would just simply not allow sharing specific directories and only allow sharing the contents of a single 'shared' directory (which would necessitate copying all files you would wish to share).

OS X :: Sharing Files Between Two Macs - Unable To Connect
I have a new iMac MacBook air and aebs with a USB drive, both computers are set up as the same user and passed and with full file sharing running. From the iMac I can see the laptop under the shared heading but clicking on it just sits for a while and then says unable to connect, the same thing happens when I click connect as. This happens from the laptop also and also exactly the same when trying to connect to the drive on the aebs.

They only way it works is to go the finder and going through connect to server and this is fine, any ideas what to do? Also my understanding is that the drive on the aebs should automatically connect but this doesn't? Which means every time I restart the laptop I have to manually reconnect to the drive which is annoying as I use it for time machine. I would also like to easily connect both macs together so I can keep files synced easier.

OS X Leopard :: SMB File Sharing Broken Between PC And Macs
Is there anyone on the planet with PCs and Macs on the same SMB file network where the Macs can see the Windows PCs without using Bonjour and without using "Connect to Server..."? I now have 3 Macs, one fresh out of the box, and 3 Windows PCs on the network. The Windows PCs can all see each other just fine and can all see the Macs just fine. But the Macs can't see ANY of the Windows PCs -- Neither XP nor Vista. If I "Connect to server.." and type in the Windows computer name manually, it will connect okay. But I should be able to simply view all PCs on my network in Finder. What's up with SMB support in Leopard? It's actually WORSE than Tiger! At least in Tiger I could sometimes see Windows PCs from the Macs.

OS X Leopard :: Sharing Canon PIXMA MP560 Between Two Macs?
My roommate and I both have MacBook pros, but we figured it would be smarter to just buy one printer and share since this printer is wireless.

However, since the printer was installed on her computer first, I am for some reason unable to print from my computer if her laptop is not open and on. My computer just says it is looking for and cannot find the printer. Obviously this isn't very convenient since I will want to print when she's at work or whatever. How can we configure it differently so that we can both use the printer regardless of whether both computers are in the house and powered on or not?

OS X Leopard :: Connecting / File Sharing Between Two Networked Macs
I have a Mac Pro (in an out-building in my back-garden) and an IMac (in the house) connected by a long ethernet cable (must be at least 20 metres). I used to have no trouble connecting one to the other till recently. I still usually have no trouble connecting to the Internet from the Mac Pro using the Imac's internet connection (wireless). The problem is in clicking on the Imac connection to open it in order to share files (also using "connect to server" in Go menu). Much of the time (but not absolutely always), it refuses to connect, and I get a "failed connection message" (or something like "server does not exist" if using other method). Sometimes, I can connect successfully, not just as a guest but after entering admin password, and then short time later the connection will disappear. When this happens, the Imac icon previously visible in the finder window also disappears.

Unplugging and replugging the ethernet cable has no effect. Once I was using Itunes shared library to play a song on the Imac, and the song just suddenly disappeared. Just now, after the Mac Pro-to-Imac conection failed again, I substituted my Ibook for the Imac in the house, and there was no problem at all connecting both ways between it and the Mac Pro. I then reconnected the Imac to the Mac Pro and it too connected fine. This proved at least that the ethernet cable was not at fault, but no doubt the problem will re-occur. I have tried experimenting with the Firewall settings on the Imac, e.g. to "allow all incoming connections" or to "set access for specific services"( the latter is my usual setting on the Imac), but it made no difference.

Also, the Ibook has no trouble at all connecting to the Imac when the Imac firewall is set to "specific services" so why should the Mac Pro have a problem (I admit I am a little uncertain about the best setting for the Firewall, but believe "specific services" to be correct). File-sharing options in system prefs on the IMac are clearly properly set-up or there would never be any connection at all. Often, although the Mac Pro to IMac connection will not work, the IMac to Mac Pro will, although not today, when the Mac Pro icon similarly was not present on the IMac. As stated, I am pretty sure that all the time the internet connection from Mac Pro to IMac still works (Mac Pro shares IMac connection).

Snow Leopard :: SEP Break Sharing Between Macs?
I have a Macbook Pro and an iMac both running 10.6.5, latest patches, etc. All is well sharing works, macs appear in the the left side of the finder, and when I fire up Goodreader PDF reader on my iPad and enable wireless server mode, they connect with out issue. Work requires antivirus on the laptop, and SEP in particular. Installed it, and now the laptop doesn't see the iMac in the finder (but can connect if I do so manually through command-K). I can no longer connect to GoodReader on my iPad.

I uninstall Symantec and use the Symantec removal tool, still can't. Reset permissions, nothing. Re-install latest cumulative patch from Apple, still no go, format the hard drive and install Mac OS X. I just copy my data from the other iMac as I keep them synced. All is well again. Several months pass, work is pressing on the whole SEP issue and now they provide SEP 11. Install it, and I'm in the same boat as above...does anyone know what SEP does to break sharing on the Mac? I don't have to go through an reinstall again?

OS X :: Permissions For Editing Files From File Sharing Between Two Macs
I currently have a Mac Mini operating as a Home Theatre with my TV, i transfer media files between my MacBook and the Mini via the Wi-Fi network.

The files transfer fine, no problems. However when it comes to modifying or editing the files i have a labourious task of going into the info pane of the file & adding the Mac Mini as a user and then giving it the read/write permissions.

Is there any way that files transferred from my MacBook via this method already give the read/write permissions automatically to my Mac Mini? Instead of going into every file and adding the permissions manually?

Probably is a simple answer to this, but its the first time i've used file sharing between two macs.

OS X Leopard :: Unable To Connect Macs With Afp File Sharing?
I am suddenly unable to connect my MacBook Pro to my Mini using afp file sharing. I've done this successfully many times in the past, most recently about three weeks ago.

After using Go -> Connect to Server and picking the previously used Favourite Server entry, I get the Connecting to Server window, then after about a minute I get a pop up that says:

Connection failed
The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.

Then the Finder icon jumps about and in the Connecting to Server window the message is:

The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "afp://aragorn" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)

Both machines are connected by Cat-6 cable to the same router, File Sharing is enabled on both machines, and Airport is switched off. I can ping each machine from the other, and both otherwise work fine. I've also tried connecting using the IP address instead of the machine name, with the same result. I've even tried another router, with the same result.

Aperture :: Switching From Managed Library To Reference Files Library?
I'd like to know if this is possible to convert an existing Aperture 3 library from a managed library to a reference files library?

When I first switched to Aperture 2.x from iPhoto, I kept the managed library method. But now, I think it is not so great when I consider that with a RAW workflow since a year, my library has grown from 20 Gb to 50 Gb. Also, with the announcement of PS CS5, I'm considering upgrading from Elements to CS5, and I know CS suite works better with Bridge CS than within Aperture. Say that you need to merge multiple pictures together for a montage or merge background/foreground.

Aperture :: Open The Package, Extract Projects And Import Them Into A New Library As Under Aperture 2?
If I "show package contents" on my Aperture library (I know, don't touch), I see several folders with Metadata, then a folder called Masters, and another called Previews.

Under Masters and Previews, I see images ordered by year, then month, day, then by subfolders that appear to split across project lines.

Oddly, I only see years 2010, 2009, and 2008. It doesn't appear to be assigning this to the metadata, as I see in some cases it's at least two years off. Based on the size of these folders, my guess is that it has organized based on Aperture import date. Can anyone confirm?

Also, if my library takes a turn for the worse and is not repairable, is it possible to open the package, extract projects and import them into a new library as it was under Aperture 2?
