Aperture :: Move Library File To New Computer?

Using AP3. I have all my photos as referenced masters on an external hard disk, currently my library file resides in my Macbook Pro. I have bought a new Mac which will be my primary computer for photo editing and I want to use the same external hard drive. How do I move my library file to the new computer? Just copy it to my new computer and point to this file when I open AP3 on my new computer?

Aperture :: Move Library With Referenced Masters
I want to move my entire Aperture Library to a Macbook so I can access it while away for about a month. Then, when I return, I want to move it back. Can I copy my entire folder structure with all the original files in it to the Macbook with the exact same location and then copy the entire Aperture Library as well? When I open Aperture, will it simply "work" since I moved all the referenced Master files and the entire Library?

Aperture :: Recovered Photos - How To Move All Projects To New Library
After about a 40 hour wait, I've finally recovered my largest library (48GB, 70,000+ photos, all referenced to external HD) which was destroyed after an attempted rebuild attempt. I've now reorganized all of my projects to the file structure that I want. Now I am determining the best way to move all of these projects from this library which I still feel may be corrupted somehow to a brand new library. I refuse to do library rebuild again on this library as that is what destroyed it the first time. Is the best method literally going to be exporting each project out of this current library one by one, then reimporting them back into into the new library?

Aperture :: Importing IPhoto Library As Referenced And Then Move To Managed Later?
Eventually I want to move the subset of images into the Aperture library as Managed images. How do I move the subset of images into Aperture and maintain all the changes I've made to those images in Aperture?

I could move them all now before I make changes, but I want to make the changes ahead of time, to reduce the amount of junk images that eventually end up as Managed images in Aperture.

Aperture :: Moving Library With Referenced Files To A New Computer
Most of my images are referenced files. They're in subfolders of the Pictures folder in my home directory. The Aperture Library.aplibrary file is about 5Gb, the images themselves take up about 15Gb.

I've bought a new laptop and want to move everything to it. I assumed that just copying the library file and Pictures would work, but it didn't - Aperture on the new machine doesn't seem to be able to find the referenced images (due, I think to the different disk UUIDs). I could manually reconnect them on a project-by-project basis but I'm unwilling to do that as it would be a huge amount of work.

Aperture :: Library / Master File Storage?
I just noticed that my Aperture Library (3.02 and earlier versions) indicates an 88GB file size. Since I store my files elsewhere and only use the Aperture Library for Referenced Files, I cannot understand why this is so large when my original files take up 97GB of storage. I use my MobileME Web Gallery that I create from Aperture; however, I am not sure if this has any significant effect. I have also verified the location of my original files using the "Show in Finder" utility, in order to make sure that these have not been copied into my Aperture Library.

Aperture :: Cannot Access Library - File Permissions
When I was using Aperture for the first time, I used the Sample Library to learn some things about Apertures functions. I had to restart the computer because of major lag, but after that re-logging I can't open Aperture at all. "Aperture cannot access this library To use this library, make sure its file permissions are set correctly." How do I get it to work again? I've tried to rebuild the library. When I try to use the "repair permissions"-option, I just get the same message. The same happens when I try to repair the database. What should I do?

Aperture :: Library Deleted After Seeing File Structure Unsupported Error?
I went to upgrade libraries on my Hitachi Simpletough USB drive and encountered the following error:

There was an error opening the database for library "/Volumes/Simpletough/other/sf/sf.aplibrary".

The library could not be opened because the file system of the library's volume is unsupported

Ok

It then lists the library and with two options 1 create new or Ok to upgrade the library. When I click ok it begins the upgrade process which goes quite quickly, then the following error pops up:

Warning

There was an erro creating the library at path "/Volumes/Simpletough/other/sf/sf.aplibrary". The library could not be created because the file system of the destination volume is unsupported.

Quit

The result after this error... The library just disappears and space on the drive appears to have been recouped. I'm in the process of running Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery and will also run Photo Recovery by LC Tech after.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for recovery?

Allowing users to wipe an entire library seems to be a huge bug.

Aperture :: Cannot Access Library - File Permission Set Correctly?
"Aperture cannot access this library" followed by "To use this library, make sure its file permissions are set correctly." I recently swapped my Windows PC for an Apple iMac. I thought Apple the bees knees (initially) now this problem has loomed it head and is pretty scary. I have 22,000 family photos from year 2000-2010 in my library and now I cannot open it. Several weeks of processing these photos seems to be lost and maybe the photos too. Can anyone help me get them back. Although familiar with a computer I am by no means an IT expert and I am not really familiar with Apple at all having been with Windows since it was release back in the stone age and only a few weeks with Apple. I tried the trial Aperture, liked it and bought the real thing. I loaded it up used the code number etc and off it goes working like a dream. I start up my computer today and try to open Aperture 3 and it give me the error message. "Aperture cannot access this library" followed by "To use this library, make sure its file permissions are set correctly."

Aperture :: File Path After Consolidating Referenced IPhoto Library
I recently imported as Referenced my iPhoto library (>10,000 images, 99% jpegs and a few Quicktimes) into A3.0. I didn't like the way it was acting as referenced (continuously processing and slow), so I consolidated it into A3 as Managed images(copy). But now when I go to Metadata>General, the path name still points to the iPhoto library. How do I update the path in metadata?

Aperture :: Switching From Managed Library To Reference Files Library?
I'd like to know if this is possible to convert an existing Aperture 3 library from a managed library to a reference files library?

When I first switched to Aperture 2.x from iPhoto, I kept the managed library method. But now, I think it is not so great when I consider that with a RAW workflow since a year, my library has grown from 20 Gb to 50 Gb. Also, with the announcement of PS CS5, I'm considering upgrading from Elements to CS5, and I know CS suite works better with Bridge CS than within Aperture. Say that you need to merge multiple pictures together for a montage or merge background/foreground.

Aperture :: Open The Package, Extract Projects And Import Them Into A New Library As Under Aperture 2?
If I "show package contents" on my Aperture library (I know, don't touch), I see several folders with Metadata, then a folder called Masters, and another called Previews.

Under Masters and Previews, I see images ordered by year, then month, day, then by subfolders that appear to split across project lines.

Oddly, I only see years 2010, 2009, and 2008. It doesn't appear to be assigning this to the metadata, as I see in some cases it's at least two years off. Based on the size of these folders, my guess is that it has organized based on Aperture import date. Can anyone confirm?

Also, if my library takes a turn for the worse and is not repairable, is it possible to open the package, extract projects and import them into a new library as it was under Aperture 2?

Aperture :: Relocated Aperture Library Still Creates New Projects On Root Drive
I just relocated my masters (by reference) to another internal drive. It was really quite simply - you just have to make sure to specify that you want the directory to be the project name and it will preserve your directory structure (changing folder names in pictures to the project names). I have encountered one problem, however. When I create a new project it still creates it in my home pictures directory - it doesn't create it in the new location (I left the library itself in the home pictures directory for backup purposes - I want it backed up frequently, but the pictures themselves are only backed up when add new ones).I copied it to the new pictures directory on the other disk, but it still created the project in home/pictures.

How do you get aperture to create directories in the correct location - on the new disk?

Aperture :: Aperture IPhoto Library Storage

I am thinking about buying AP3 and installing it on the iMac but I still want to be able to sync its library with iPhoto on the Macbook. Now, currently to sync my 2 iphoto libraries I select the library files on each computer. If I get AP3 on my iMac, can it just use the iPhoto library to store without creating a new AP3 library?

If AP3 can store the images inside iPhoto library, how will iPhoto appear if I open that?
Or is the best option just to install AP3 on both computers seeing that Apple's license allows it?
